BEFORE you COMMENT Please READ THIS disclaimer!!!
************************************************************************************************
Please understand. Jesus IS Lord. No one is denying that. Please do not say that "if we're saved Jesus is Lord". We know that! We are not talking about that! In this clip JVM is talking about an increasingly common heretical false doctrine known as "Lordship Salvation". It should be called "Lifestyle Salvation", because that's what it teaches. It is taught by many modern pastors. PLEASE NOTE!!! "Lordship Salvation" is a euphemistically named false doctrine that emphasizes works for salvation. "Making Jesus Lord of your life" (as they say) actually equates to law keeping. Galatians 2:16 says "Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified." also remember Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast."
Quite a few people have a knee-jerk reaction and think that by denying “Lordship Salvation” we are denying the Lordship of Christ. WE DO NOT! We say clearly again -- JESUS IS LORD!! I will shout that from the rooftops til my last breath! But “Lordship Salvation” is a subtle works-based heresy that stresses works, law keeping, and turning from sin (one's lifestyle), for salvation. It has nothing to do with Jesus as Lord. It is BECAUSE he is my Lord that I defend his truth!! I hope you understand.
Ephesians 2:8-9
Galatians 2:16
"Lordship Salvation" is an insidious doctrine. Jesus is Lord, and because of that fact I will follow and defend His truth. And His truth is that works don't save you. Only HE does!! Amen!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
"Lordship Salvation" is a heretical false doctrine that teaches you have to "make Jesus lord of your life". This is a subtle, sneaky way to backload works into salvation. But salvation is by grace through faith in Christ ALONE! (Ephesians 2:8-9, Galatians 2:16, John 3:16, Acts 16:31) Lord-shippers, as they are lovingly called around here, conflate the requirements for salvation with the expectations for discipleship and Christian living/growth. If the doctrine was called "Lordship Christianity" it would be better, provided it does not make works part of salvation!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
WE ACKNOWLEDGE JESUS IS LORD!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT IS THE WHOLE POINT!!!!!! We will be true to HIM and HIS teachings... not man's teachings!!
###################################################################
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The GOSPEL!! Jesus is alive! Believe Him today to receive the gift of everlasting life! (John 3:16-18)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So... let me state once again for the record that Jesus is Lord. We don't make him Lord. He IS Lord. He literally IS LORD. "Lordship Salvation" is not about that. It is a semantical heresy that says that "making Jesus Lord of your life" will earn you salvation. Of course this is rank heresy of the most egregious type. Just because it uses the terms "Lord" and "Jesus" doesn't make it doctrinally correct. Looking closer one sees quite clearly that "Lordship Salvation" teaches salvation BY WORKS. Why? Because it teaches that "making Jesus Lord of your life" = Doing lots of good things, or Bearing fruit, or doing good deeds, or living a holy life. All things that are wonderful, but not required (key word "required") for salvation. "Lordship Salvation" actually teaches "Lifestyle Salvation" because it teaches that one's lifestyle earns (or keeps) salvation. But it doesn't. For every Christian that is a well behaved person, I can show you two non-Christians who are just as decent and well-behaved, lifestyle-wise. Because our lifestyle doesn't save us. Our FAITH (BELIEF) in Christ saves us. Over 200 verses in the Bible teach that we must believe unto salvation.

Genuine salvation is followed by sanctification and obedience to Jesus. We don't work to be saved, we are saved by grace through faith, and works follow that faith as the Holy Spirit indwells us as God's children. Faith doesn't transform. The Holy Spirit in us once we trust Christ works in us but we cannot rely on how great our faith is or faithful we are but only I n Jesus Christ and what HE did alone. The problem is ppl give lip service to grace through fsith, not of works but backload works into faith when believing means to trust that what God promised He is able to perform. That is what scripture says. So I fight against preachers messages of John macarthur, Ray comfort and most preachers today bc they muddy up the gospel mixing discipleship and maturity with the gift of eternal lufe confusing so many. Thanks we'll go with Acts 5:31. If repentance is turning from sins, why does the verse say "to give repentance to Israel AND forgiveness of sins." (emphasis is mine). You would interpret this verse as "to give turning from sins to Israel, and forgiveness of sins." Does that make sense? No. it means "to give a change of mind to Israel, and forgiveness of sins." Thanks for posting this video! 👍I experienced lordship salvation firsthand after becoming a born-again True believer 38 years. Lordship salvation will take away any peace or assurance you have with your walk with God. Eventually keeps you guessing whether you're doing enough for God. Whether you're doing the right works or listening enough to the Spirit, relying enough, trusting enough, sharing the gospel, reading your Bible enough going to church enough ,giving enough, it's made many a good True believer fall away and feel totally defeated , depressed and anxious and like they let God down including myself. It's only by finding the true Hyper Grace of Christ , and by the way ,,the Apostle Paul uses the word Grace in the Greek translation meaning hyper-grace,,,and understanding I am completely secure and him and what He did to save me. @@jayheinz4624 I think my point in commenting is that listening to a dozen Paul washer sermons in a row can be hurtful if you’re not rightfully understanding that maybe there’s more to it. Same with the clip we’re talking about now. “Lordship salvation” is just the biblical understanding that when a person is truly born again, they change. Not perfection, but like a market “trend” believers are trending towards holiness because of our affections for Christ. It’s the most common misbelief I see in modern Christianity: I said the prayer so I’m safe. This idea is not once in scripture unless you isolate one verse out of context. I know and have pleaded with many so called brothers to repent that one day will hear the words “depart from me, you who practice lawlessness” and they, like the ones in the Book, will truly be surprised.

I really don't understand this controversy. How can someone be convicted of their sinful lost condition, repent of their sin, put faith in Christ, be born again, become a child of God and STILL not have Jesus as their Lord? I think some are confusing Lordship with sanctifaction. Jesus said, "Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that DOETH the will of my Father which is in heaven.(MTT7:21-23). This "easy believeism" or "quick prayerism," especially when combined with "unconditional eternal security," is sending millions to hell. I think "Lordship Salvation" was a response to "Easy Believism", the belief that a person could make a profession of faith in Jesus and continue to live a sinful lifestyle apart from God. Lordship Salvation argued a person who is truly saved will, with the Holy Spirit's help, seek to avoid sin and follow Jesus' teachings. I think most who promote Lordship Salvation believe in the transforming power of the Gospel. When a person is truly saved, the Holy Spirit indwells the believer and transforms and sanctifies him or her over time. The thief on the cross was saved but did not have time to follow Jesus' teachings. That is an extreme case. I believe the Philippian jailer was saved and avoided sin and followed Paul's teachings about Jesus the rest of his life. The Prophets, Jesus and the Apostles all called people to repent of their sins. The Bible is clear that faith in Jesus is the only way to be saved and legalistic religious practices and human works do not save. God's grace, help and forgiveness is always needed. There are usually extreme views on both sides of an issue that are not helpful.

Read that section a little closer. And you’ll find out that the ones who Jesus sent away were relying on their works, not belief only. Go ahead and read it again please. Notice it says “we have done many wonderful works.” And Jesus said “I never knew you.” That means they never truly trusted him alone for salvation. Also, repent doesn’t mean turn from your sins. It means to change your mind. To go from trusting works to trust in Christ alone. That’s what true repentance means. Do you need proof that repent doesn’t mean turn from your sins? The Bible says God repented. Did he turn from his sins? Obviously not. He changed his mind. And that’s what we’re supposed to do. Repent and believe. Change your mind and believe.

Suggesting that Jesus become “Lord” (Sovereign) of one’s life means that I resign as the ultimate authority in my life and install Jesus in His rightful place as Head of my chain of command. If I refuse to acknowledge Jesus as my Superior/Leader/Authority - and remain in primacy of my life, I cannot make a good argument that I “have no other gods before” Him; because, by definition, I am my own final authority. If you are truly born again, Jesus WILL become “Lord” (Primary) in your life, or your “conversion” is meaningless. I like Mr McGee, but I find him in error on this point.

A lot of people misunderstand the James 2 passage. It isn’t saying “Faith without works makes you unsaved”. That is NOT what it means. It means “If one’s faith doesn’t produce works for the benefit of God’s kingdom it is useless or worthless.” James is speaking to already saved believers. James is a guidebook for how saved people can live good and productive lives to honor the Lord. It’s not about “how to be saved”. I hope this helps.

And what if a person doesn't immediately produce works? Is there a time table? Should the works be right away or 5 years after conversion? And by the way, how many works are enough to prove salvation? One, two, three? 100 good deeds? Can it be just being super nice? What if he only shows half the fruits of the spirit? Is he saved? What if he's a rude jerk but routinely feeds and clothes poor families? What if he bears all the fruits of the spirit, but has an eye for the ladies? Is he unsaved then? Go ahead and try to quantify your requirement for a works-based salvation. Please. I dare you.

That’s not at all what lordship salvation is. You misunderstood the issues. Sorry. But don’t worry you’re not alone. Lordship salvation is a doctrine that teaches that you have to make Jesus lord of your life, and then you find out that you must turn from your sins, which means that you are required to obey the law, which means that you’re saved through the law. This is simply unbiblical. Paul teaches very clearly that we’re not saved by the law.

After Christ’s death and resurrection our sins were paid for. In full! Enter Paul. He is the apostle to the Gentiles (you and I). Read Ephesians 2:8-9. I especially liked what Mr. McGee had to say about "commitments". That is one of the things that always bothered me about Billy Graham's preaching, his talking about making a "commitment". Mr. Graham's use of the word commitment seemed to be akin to someone making a New Year's resolution or an alcoholic taking the oath, both of which have failed countless times. Our commitments fail, the Lord Jesus Christ does not. The supernatural event of the granting of repentance and faith from God is far different from weak and corrupt human "commitments".

@chris2790
@chris2790 7 ай бұрын
@@ezsalvation3656 100% no, I would not say that. Our righteousness is 100 imputed from Christ and is a gift from God, not from anything found in us or done by us. When God saves a person there is a change that reflects the reality that a person is a new creation in Christ. We have positionally been made righteous IN Christ and we have been given a new heart, a new nature, that desires to serve God even though we still battle against sin, the flesh and Satan. However, a person that does not show any fruit, does not acknowledge Jesus is Lord of their lives, is a person that does not know Christ and if they think they are saved they deceive themselves. We are told to examine ourselves to see if we are in the faith. And scripture makes clear that good works will be a consequence of legitimate faith in Jesus and the Father. James is clear on this. Faith without works is DEAD. Works don't justify us before God, but rather they are part of what demonstrates that our faith and salvation is real. That is not to say though that we can conclude that anybody doing good works is saved. Jesus said that He will tell the one group that did so many "good things" in His name to depart from Him, for He never knew them. Yet the righteous group that gave food, water, etc. to those in need were considered as having done it to Christ and were welcomed into His kingdom.

See Chris you started off great! But then went off the rails with the "if you're saved you'll do XYZ..." No. You are saved by belief/trust in Christ. PERIOD. Whatever happens next is part of growth, NOT salvation. Lifestyle has NOTHING to do with salvation. Some grow quickly, some grow slow. Some change a lot, some barely (at first). Some people take YEARS to manifest their inner spiritual change. Some, it happens immediately. Some might never show outward signs. You might see a tree in the winter and conclude it is dead. But it isn't dead. In the spring it blossoms and blooms. God knows who is and who isn't his. Do you contend that you must convince an omniscient God that you are truly saved?
@chris2790
@chris2790 7 ай бұрын
@@ezsalvation3656 You totally misconstrued what I said and what the Bible teaches. We have no intrinsic merit before God of our own accord. We are accepted by God only on account of the righteousness of Christ and His finished work on the cross. Period, end of discussion. Beyond that, I did not go off the rails. By DEFINITION, it is impossible for a person to NOT manifest a difference over time when they've been born again. I did not and do not specify a specific criteria for judging any given person or circumstance, that's for God alone to know. In your zeal to convince everyone that we do not earn or deserve our salvation, you run into error and are likely to lull some into a false sense of security when they remain lost and spiritually dead. Do you think scripture tells us to examine ourselves to see if we are in the faith for no reason? Or that in James it says that faith without works is dead? No, but as God says, His word will accomplish the purpose for which He sent it out. Part of that is conviction of sin which leads to repentance and salvation. For faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Anybody that "professes" faith in Christ and remains content to live their lives according to their own will and wisdom, continuing in their sin and rebellion against God with no conviction of their sin and battling said sin shows that they were never reborn and remain spiritually dead. Read Jesus's parable of the sower. This really isn't that difficult to understand. And don't be silly, of course we have nothing to prove to God. As a footnote, those struggling with security of their salvation need to simply rest in God's promise, as a child would their earthly father. Our faith and salvation comes from the finished work of Jesus Christ who bore our sin and shame on the cross having become a curse in our place. And Jesus IS the author and finisher of our faith and will see it to completion. So take it from their and allow God to work in and through you, knowing that there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. Part of the process of our sanctification comes through having our minds renewed through the reading of His word. After Christ's sacrifice on the cross, God's Word is His greatest gift to us. We neglect that and we will unnecessarily suffer and struggle in this life.

A prayer expressing that you believe the true gospel of Christ: Lord Jesus, I have admitted I'm a sinner being sorry. Therefore, I do not trust in my own works to go to heaven because I realize, being a sinner, I cannot offer the perfect blood sacrifice that you require to pay for sin. Instead, I fully trust, believing in my heart, that your finished work on the cross, your one perfect blood sacrifice; when you bled, suffered and died, in my place, paid for my sins in full, past, present and future ! And I believe that you rose from the dead and that you are God Almighty, God the Son, alive for evermore !!! And I fully trust that you have forgiven me by cleansing me from all sin in your precious blood, which purifies my soul. Thank you Lord Jesus for greatly loving me, for forgiving me, saving me from hell and giving me eternal life and sealing me with the Holy Spirit dwelling within me forever! Rom.3:25,5:8,9,10:9, Rev.1:5, Ephes.1:7,13, 4:30, Heb.10:10-14,19,38,39,I John 5:7,13,20

@EZsalvation I believe the commenter was referencing how in the video he said the thief didn't make him Lord. But the thief did call him Lord. Hi! We had alot of fun today talking about different things...but you know what's REALLY worth talking about? Jesus Christ. He's my Savior, and guess what, He is yours too...WOW! BUT it's not like going to a party and wearing the same outfit as everyone, but rather this is a joyous occasion of which we all celebrate the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ and His Kingdom. Jesus is the King! Good morning

Romans 14:9 KJV: For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living. According to the verse above...Paul clearly believed in Lordship salvation...and so does the Holy Spirit.

No! lordship salvation is a euphemistically named false doctrine, that teachers that you must turn from your sins or live, according to the law to be saved. Obviously, Jesus is Lord no one’s denying that. Lordship salvation is something else.

The hymn says it all. “At the cross.”. I often mention the fact of the two others with Jesus. The one thief was close to death but because he acknowledged Jesus right then and there. It was so simple. Shortly thereafter he died with Jesus. Saved! He didn’t live a life of works. We humans love to complicate things it seems.

I have a question to anyone willing to answer! Based of the small debate going on in the comments, I’m confused about sanctification and conforming to Christ. My current understanding is that as believers, we should conform to Jesus. This is not “working” towards anything, but simply trying to be more holy because we are following in Christ’s example. Is this correct?
@ezsalvation3656

Yes. This is absolutely correct.

J. Vernon McGee, like many people, did not understand what Lordship salvation is. Lordship salvation is not a new concept but has been promoted from day 1. What is clear to me is that those who reject lordship salvation has been taught a perverted view of it and are thus rejecting a false view of lordship.

@@ezsalvation3656 Look at what Jesus said: "You are my friend IF you OBEY my commands." This does not mean that He will reject us if we mess up once because what we are also told is that "If we (believers) confess our sin, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sin and cleanse us of all unrighteousness. Lordship salvation is conforming yourself to the image of christ more and more as you go on in your christian life. It is putting away the world more and more as you live. It is making Jesus Lord of your life in all areas conforming every aspect of your life to Christ. It is not about being sinlessly perfect. It also does not mean that you aren't saved if everything about you isn't turned over to him immediately after you first confess christ. However, if a person is not striving to be like christ then they will be rejected when Jesus returns. Look at what Paul says: "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who WALK not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit." He is talking about how people are living their life..."walk". If you read Matthew 24 you will see that Jesus says - Jesus is saying this - that when he returns he is going to judge peopler for eternal life or eternal judgement based on what they DO. Also, James plainly tells us that a confession of faith is worthless and will not save if you don't have deeds to go with it.

The ironic thing is you actually agree with me, but you misunderstood my point. Want proof? You wrote: "It also does not mean that you aren't saved if everything about you isn't turned over to him immediately after you first confess Christ." Exactly! I agree 100%. But that is what Lordship Salvation teaches. That is precisely why I reject it. It backloads works into salvation saying you're saved by faith, BUT if you are not 100% all about Jesus 24/7 everyday, and not practicing any sin, then you are a false convert. This is just wrong.

@@ezsalvation3656 What you wrote is a common false idea people who reject Lordship salvation have about what Lordship salvation people believe, they don't believe this...including MacArthur. You sound like someone who is painting a caricature of Lordship people primarily based on either what you have been told about them or misunderstand about what they've said. They don't backload works onto salvation and none of them believe in any form of sinless perfection. Everyone I've watched and read all believe that believers will still sin but will repent and conform all aspects of their life to the image of Christ as they grow in maturity....sanctification. And just as James says, there will be works in the believers life that justifies your faith. Also, I've never heard anyone say that you have to be 100% about Christ 24/7. The idea is that BECAUSE you have the Holy Spirit you will change the way you think and act more and more as you mature...lest you fall away.

Repent and believe is what the apostles preached over and over again in Acts. It’s a false gospel to tell a person they can continue in their lifestyle of sin and be saved at the same time. This is the new idea that we should be calling out as false teaching.
@ezsalvation3656
@ezsalvation3656 Жыл бұрын
Sorry friend, but that's not at all what we are saying. You misunderstood. See, the word "Repent" has been wrongly re-defined and distorted by modern day pharisees. I don't know ANY true believer in Christ who teaches, or believes that we can "continue in a lifestyle of sin". That is simply not true. Quite the opposite. We willingly and gladly turn from sin after salvation, being motivated by gratitude and joy, not the fear of Hell.

There is no contradiction. The rich young ruler chose not to believe and the woman at the well not only believed, but testified about Jesus. She actually provides a good example for all of us. We hear the truth, believe it, and then share that truth with others.. (Come and see).

You’re missing the point. Jesus is ALREADY Lord. Always has been. Always will be. The thief recognized this fact. The thief believed. The thief had no opportunity to live a Holy Life. Yet, through simple belief in Jesus, he was saved from Hell. He was “born again” the moment he believed.

The thief on the cross called Jesus "Lord," so Dr. Magee is immediately wrong right out of the gate. Nobody is advocating for a works salvation, but true saving faith automatically puts Jesus on the throne. There's no "I'll let you save me, but I'm still in control."

I agree. I am saved totally by faith in what Jesus did on the cross. But I want to say this. I was under so much conviction of sin that i wanted no more to do with sin. Yes I got on my knees and believed in my heart what Jesus did for me and I asked him to come into my life and take over. I confessed to him that I was a sinner in need of him to save me. Later on when I began to really think about what I had done. I decided to follow Jesus Unconditionally as my Lord and Savior and let him have full control of my life. At the time it seemed like the right thing to do. I don't regret doing what I did. This is almost 50 years ago I was 18. All I know is that the next morning when I woke up. I knew Jesus was real in my life. I was different and I didn't have to go back to the life i had been set free from. Unless I wanted to and believe me. I didn't.
