Great take. The best screeners in the game never get enough credit. Rudy does a great job for Mitchell and probably clarkson and others at times as well. Adam’s does An amazing job for JA and Russ and takes their attacking game to a whole new level, and I didn’t see him with NO but i imagine he might have set great screens for JJ and BI and probably even Lonzo and Others as well. Gortat did an amazing job screening for Beal and Wall in DC as well. Wall obviously rewarded him with “the most spoon fed baskets ever” to pay him back haha, but he really made a huge impact making Wall even harder to keep out of the paint and screening Beal open coming off screens on the wing for wall to hit with a pass. Ben Wallace was an elite screen setter too. Daniel Thies in Boston, he was great screening for all of the Celtics wings and especially Tatum. That’s one of the things that Brad was most excited to bring him back for. I’m sure there are other great screen setters as well, but those few are the ones that cannot be ignored! It’s amazing how good he’s been but similarity to derozen, he isn’t really in the mvp convo. Think about the guys in the race. The…standards they are held to is just so high you know? And I think that’s what makes the difference. The things you get critiqued for when you are on the mvp level is just next level. Someone like derozen or JA are having amazing seasons by outperforming expectations and lifting their teams. But then look at guys like Embiid and Jokic and Giannis. It doesn’t “feel” like it, but they are having better seasons than JA and Demar even just statistically, on both ends, but we are used to it so we don’t really pat as much attention! Imagine if Giannis wasn’t already Giannis. People would be freaking out about how good he is and how he has kept the bucks afloat this year with the injuries and inconsistent lineups they had earlier in the season. Then joker, same thing! No Murray and no Porter! And they are still firmly in the playoffs in the west, with an ALl time record PeR so far and Improved D. And then Embiid, dude loses his co-star all year and still has the sixers fighting between the 1-4 seeds all season long with insane offense and elite defense always. I’m a much bigger fan of JA and derozan than anyone else, but we gotta be fair. People just get bored with greatness sometimes and forget how amazing some players are cuz they do it year after year. We do have to give credit to JA for where the grizz are at in the conference! But voters simply won’t ignore the 12-2( or is it still 11-2) record without him. Doesn’t mean they are better without him, but it does show that the winning is more than just cuz of one player. With derozan, I will say that it’s easier to give him more credit for the bulls #2 seed since he has been the one in the lineup every night and getting wins while Lavine and/or lonzo and white and others miss time. Don’t forget the things that we let go about DD and JAs defense. They are both well below average. They have done a decent job at playing better team defense and their teams do a good job of not letting that hinder them so much, but their offensive numbers aren’t SO amazing and all time ridiculous that it’s enough to make up for them being below average defenders. I would say that some years or some eras it might be enough to have all-nba level stats and a top 3 record in a conference to lock up an MVP even with bad defense, but not when the field is SO stacked. As much as I love Ja and DD they aren’t doing enough to surpass guys like Embiid and Giannis dominance on both ends and Jokers all time historic offensive dominance( and improved D) even despite the grizzlies and bulls team records being more impressive

@@bendameron9922 Morant is certainly not quicker than Drose. Drose was pretty much a blur when it came to overall speed/agility/quickness and finishing. I'm a fan of Morant's game but it's no comparison imo. Power also favored Drose but I think ja is in the high spectrum in regards to explosive guards
