Holo jaba makes a lot of sense here, but i do think the despecialized jabba (that wasnt stepped on) would be even better in the hologram without the static interruption when han walks behind. Really clever edit though. To this day i never understood why george would make that edit, as if jabba wouldn't have han killed right there for it.

If you saw the original 1997 theatrical release, you saw Han walk around Jabba in almost a 'square' like move over and behind, which just looked awful. Then, the effects were touched up a bit for the DVD release, and then again for the Blu-ray release. Still, the idea that the most notorious gangster in the galaxy, the 'Al Capone' of Star Wars, is going to let Han step on his tail? If it was always Lucas' intention to put that scene back into the film, he could've made 'Jabba' the name of the right hand man to ________ The Hutt. That way, he wouldn't have had to put up with all the hassle decades later.

Boba didn't exist back then when they shot the scene. Plus Han called him Jabba, and Boba is ... more slim, than the original actor. Addressing the FAQ: The 4th Holo-Jabba is not an official release, it's a fan edit created by this channel & it's collaborators and can be found here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fbGRfZV4qJenYGg.html It first released in 2022 but the scene was updated in 2023 Also the reason Holo-Jabba lets out a yell of annoyance ,isn't because Han stepped on his phantom tail, it's simply because Han waves his hand through the broadcast, making it distorted for both, who knows how loud the interference was on Jabba's end. Also Also, for those complaining this scene is a Re-hash of Han & Greedo's conversation, this is about visual editing, not trimming out the fat, if you want to see the original theatrical version, I recommend Project 4K77 or Harmy's Despecialised, both are decent. This is a Fan Edit channel, not Lucasfilm.

@tmorganriley
@tmorganriley 5 ай бұрын
@@MaryBrownIsTheBlairWitch Exactly! The fact that Han doesn't grovel or beg---but instead is cool and unflinching while knowing that he could indeed be a step away from death---are precisely the qualities Jabba wants in a smuggler. Their little "dance" in this scene is meant to demonstrate to his boss that despite the recent incident, Han still has the right stuff and the nerves of steel to be an ace smuggler. (And in doing so, from a filmmaking perspective serve to quickly and more deeply characterize Han to the audience, removed from his mere bragging to Luke and Obi-Wan). If Han were a lackey or minion, he might indeed be dead for such an act, but Han is a skilled front-line moneymaker for the Hutt, hard to replace and---for the time being---worth more alive than dead, and both know it (and the audience learns that yes, Han isn't just a braggart; if the racket boss is convinced he is that good a pilot and smuggler, he may be just that...). If Han is killed, Jabba is 100% out a large chunk of illicit revenue. In period gangster movies, the smarter sort often are willing to overlook such personal snubs or even failures if they believe they can still profit ("nothing personal, just business"). But when Han DOESN'T pay Jabba back... well, THEN an example must be made, and you get the events of ESB and ROTJ. (And even then, as Boba Fett explained to Vader, Jabba's bounty was much higher for capturing Solo alive than dead. Unlike so many others, the matter of Han's life-and-death was not something Jabba took lightly!)

The walking hologram just shows off CGI for no dramatic reason... whereas the cut to Chewie, who is pacing but cool and collected, helps subtly give us the tone: Han isn't alone and has backup in case anything goes wrong; right now, the situation is still under control, as Chewie is acting like it is... but he is not at all relaxed, is on his guard, not letting Han get too far away. Just enough to keep the tension in the scene going.

The scene should have been changed to be one of his underlings (probably Bib Fortuna). The dialog would be nearly the same, just changed to refer to Jabba in the third person.

With the more CGI version (as opposed to the one that looks like a deflated green condom) I always found it odd that Jabba looked so different to other films. It could have been because it was set earlier than Return of the Jedi, but in the Phantom Menace he looks consistent with Return. Unless Hutts have some kind of yearly cycles where their skin changes.
@trianglemoebius
@trianglemoebius 7 ай бұрын
They actually do, and leading up to their shedding they're a lot tougher to hurt (and even immune to small arms fire, up to a bit) because of all the excess skin. Now that I think about it, this kind of explains Han stepping on Jabba's tail: he didn't realise it'd hurt him due to having recently shed, and once he took that first step it was too late to stop. It isn't perfect, but it helps a bit.
@warhead5225
@warhead5225 8 ай бұрын
The stepping on the tail doesn’t bother me as much when I take the full context into account plus adding some of my own conclusions. Jabba even says “Han my boy.” He’s clearly fond of Solo. And the Solo movie made a huge mistake in not having Jabba be a main character and showing how that relationship came to be. Maybe Jabba took a liking to Han due to his courage and brashness. But what we do know is Greedo had just tried to kill Han. Someone who works for Jabba. Given the little we see of Jabba and Han talking, we don’t know how close they are and how willing Jabba would be to let Solo walk over him like that without killing him. But we do know Solo just had his life almost taken by one of his goons. And one could surmise that this has never happened before. One can surmise Solo has pulled many lucrative jobs for Jabba, earned some respect, and is pissed when he fails one job and Greedo is there pointing a gun at him after. Jabba probably just let Solo walk over his tail in that moment because he knew how pissed Solo was but also knew how good for the business he was. Walking over the tail was for Greedo, one of jabbas “twerps” being sent to kill Han that he was clearly frustrated over. And Jabba immediately lets it go upon hearing Han has something else lined up. And remember Han is Jabbas “boy”, Jabba trusted immediately he would have something better due to their past relationship we’ve never seen
@trianglemoebius
@trianglemoebius 7 ай бұрын
In the Young Han Solo Trilogy (good books, btw, read them) they do this really well. Han is basically Jabba's "best smuggler", which is why he got entrusted to carry so many credits worth of spice in the first place. In an effort to keep his best smuggler around, Jabba is (disingenuously) nice to Han, even telling his guards not to harm him unless given a direct order. Which also explains why they'd not act when Jabba was stepped on - it's like how Stalin had a stroke and nobody dared check on him because he told them he was not to be disturbed.
@DNTCreativeMedia

I actually saw the "Han my boy..." line as a threat, a power move, like how in Goodfellas they'll say something like "you're family, kid" and then whack a guy. Like how a sheriff might go, "Son, you either step outta the car or I'll make you step out." Something like that.

I agree with most others here, the hologram version is by far the best. However, it makes sense to leave it out, since most of the information conveyed in this scene was already in the Greedo scene, making the Jabba scene redundant. If I recall, much of the additional Greedo dialogue was added during re-shoots that were done both to compensate for cutting the original Jabba scene (hence the duplicative lines), as well as to feature an improved Greedo costume for the close-ups.

The scene should have never been added back into the movie. Many reasons: 1. It looks terrible in every version. 2. The way in which Han treats Jabba makes Jabba look weak. 3. This scene completely reiterates everything that the Greedo scene did immediately before it. 4. Jabba’s thugs are behaving silly - almost like they are searching for a lost contact lense 5. WORST OF ALL, it totally ruins the build up of hearing about Jabba for two films and then finally seeing what and who Jabba is in the final act of the trilogy. George was really foolish for throwing this one back in. Another example of “so preoccupied with whether or not they should, that they didn’t stop and think if they should”.

Making Jabba a hologram is inspired. It allows Han to walk behind him without any weird edits, and it explains why Jabba looks so much smaller here than in ROTJ. The scene itself is redundant, and tells us nothing that the Greedo scene didn’t already say. But if they absolutely must keep it, then hologram is the way to go.
