@Day nope. Mariah is a vocalist who also writes songs, but do the songs contain literary devices and figures of speech? Metaphors, references and such? Taylor (excuse the songs you've heard from her, like we are never getting back together, ikywt, love story, shake it off etc) writes immaculate songs. Which is why as an English student, I started listening to her. She herself said if she didn't write songs she wouldn't be here. It's her prime weapon. I don't really care if you stan Mariah Carey and got hurt that I don't consider her a top tier songwriter while already being one of the top vocalist. She's known for using her voice as an instrument. Not for her good songwriting. Just like taylor isn't known for her fashion sense or riffs and runs.
