He actually does have a good voice, which is why I never understood why he sounded so bad durin' the Royal Albert Hall show in '68, I don't know if he was tired, sick and or wasted on drugs and booze, but I couldn't listen without cringing.

If you listen to the background vocals on Pretty Flamingo by Manfred Mann you can actually recognize Bruce's voice pretty clearly if you know how he sounds.

Not just a few love his voice. I fell in love with the band Cream when I was 13 in 1968. Jack's voice was a big part of that, and defined Cream for me. Not to underestimate the brilliant playing of all three of them!

It's startling how Jack can look handsome one moment, then seedy, unhealthy, and almost homely at another--yet blazingly hot throughout. Sometimes he looks so thin and frail you just want to invite him in for milk and cookies. But then, with that passionate voice and driving bass, he is commanding, and you know he'll pull you into the bedchamber where for hours you'll tangle like minks.

Jack Bruce. Truly a vibrato I hear deeply, even now, 50 years after….
@marktulk4225 Жыл бұрын
What proves his GREAT voice is the LACK of vibrato, he could "carry a tune" singing clear, pure tone, not that stinking "operatic" modulation.
@artysanmobile Жыл бұрын
I agree with you. His vibrato was fast and surprising, in a rock world of mostly untrained voices something rarely heard. It moves me.
@artysanmobile Жыл бұрын
@@marktulk4225 Many fantastic singers work really hard on their vibrato and the best of them use it only when they want it. I work with opera singers routinely. The best of them make superb use of vibrato to sell a lyric, to command emotional attention to a word or phrase. It is an essential tool of singers the world over and by no means in opera alone.
@marktulk422511 ай бұрын
@@artysanmobile Bullshit. The singers of MODERN Opera (late 1800s - present) have the PHONY AFFECTATION of very wide vibrato, because - until very recently - had no amplification, thus with larger audiences, sang with vibrato ( frequency modulation, FM ), every, STINKING NOTE, BECAUSE THEY'RE INCAPABLE OF SINGING WITHOUT IT !!! I challenge you to have one of your opera singers recite 2 octaves WITHOUT vibrato. They won't be able to do it, because the PHONY AFFECTATION of singing every note with that stinking, wide vibrato has been brainwashed into them. ** There are a few, great populat singers who do perform with NO vibrato, or very little (eg Chade' Adu , Astrid Gilberto [ RIP ] , etc.) to great effect. ** Note : I never criticize a performer, unless I can do better, myself.
