I felt that right in my solar plexus, at the end, he knew how to drive the message home.

Three times. A writer (co-author of detective stories), a publisher and a magician "Great Santini".

He was self centered, alcoholic, sex addict and a poor father. Nothing charming about that. As an entertainer, likeable? Ok.

Air date was March 5, 1975. Other guests were Phil Silvers, Michelle Lee, and Bobby Morse. This episode was a salute to Broadway.

A massively talented man is Jack! He is in one of the first episodes of Colombo, directed by a very young Steven Spielberg.

Patrick McGoohan was absolutely amazing as well, he played the murderer 4 times over the years. Jack Cassidy was very talented, it's sad he died so young.

This is wonderful! I saw Merman (in Dolly) and Phil Silvers (in Forum) but never saw Jack Cassidy. He is so wonderful. So is the song. From the same people who gave us "If I Were a Rich Man!"

OMG how good was jack not long before he was killed in the fire of his home you can hear his sons David and Shaun in his voice so much he had so much more to come with his talent so so much more RIP Jack

You can perhaps hear more of his voice in his son Patrick who has played some of his dad's old roles and looks like a clone of him. In fact, it's quite eerie to see him sometimes.

If you have this whole episode, I hope you can post more from it. Jack Cassidy suffered from bi-polar disorder and this caused him to behave rather unusually at times. He was a very interesting and fascinating man--and he would be the first to tell you that, lol! But his illness caused himself and those he associated with closely great difficulties unfortunately. But he also possessed great talent and instincts entertainment-wise.

He also used speed, I’m sure that had something to do with it🙄

Lena Horne also did a wonderful version of this song ("He Loves Me") while appearing on "The Judy Garland Show" in 1963 - the clip is out here on KZfaq for those who might be a fan of that very classy lady. Thanks for posting these gems Alan!

Cheeky beggar! If memory serves me correctly he is the father of David Cassidy? I was 14 when this episode aired. Huge Partridge family kid! I believe his second wife with Shirley Jones? I realize that nostalgia runs warm but, I so do miss great analog! Thanks for posting! Cheers… Keith

Yes, David's father and Shirley's ex-husband. He drank and died in a fire.

A great talent. Would love to have seen footage of he and Shirley when they were the leads in Oklahoma! when R&H organised a production for Paris, Rome, and Germany (Shirley's understudy ended up doing Germany because Shirley went back home to film Carousel). It's where they met, and I wonder if you could feel the chemistry if you saw them...

Both Shirley and Rod Steiger were to have been in that stage production immediately after filming the movie. Incredibly, Steiger was fired during rehearsals!

He died just 18 months later. He burned to death after drinking and smoking a cigarette and they identified him through dental records. He crawled on his hands and knees and they found him near the door. Body was burned beyond recognition

Jack in one of his manic phases once said ‘I believe I am Jesus Christ ‘. He once convinced Shirley Jones to join him in a three some. As a young man he had an affair with Cole Porter.
