Hell yes . Jack knows. I grew up 70s and 80s. In San fernando and miracle mile la. So true. Being a punk then was a class all our own. People never saw the shit we were doing and looking like.. Fun crazy times. Saw tsol play a show on Reseda Blvd where they did boxing. Forever in my memory.

I love hearing Jack's stories, and scrolling through the comments on this vid reading stories from old punks who were around back then. What a wild time! In a lot of ways im very envious.

Thanks Jack for taking me on a trip down memory lane. All the fights that we had at the Cuckoo's Nest with the Cowboys next door, going down to Laguna beach at night and hurting the queers. All the fights with the hippies, mods and jocks. The nights in the cemetery. Riots with police at the Olympic and other venues. Skating sessions at the Big O after snorting Benny's. You're right, there is no such thing as a fair fight! Kicking back and getting loaded at the Confederate house. Always having to have eyes in the back of your head. At the time, we all thought it was fun. Now that I am 58, I'm just glad I lived through it and didn't end up with a life sentence in prison or dead like a lot of our old friends. Does anybody know where I could buy a copy of the Vicious Circle CD, or however they put it out? Any help or comment would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your memories. I’m glad you turned out OK. The Vicious Circle album is available on iTunes. It was released on vinyl, but I don’t think it was released on CD.

I was a pretty big Metalhead back in the day but loved some hardcore punk. If you showed up to a gig wearing a leather jacket and long hair there's no doubt that you're getting your ass kicked. Love the music but hated the fans.

I remember those days. VC was tagged all over our neighborhood in Long Beach, Jack lived less than a mile from me and is a couple years older and everyone knew who he was. I also remember a night at the Cuckoo's Nest when Jack got in a fight with some cowboy dudes in the parking lot and kicked their asses while wearing a dress, will never forget that scene.

I lived off Palo Verde- VC was tagged alone the underside of bridges , the concrete wall of the 405, and El Dorado park . Did you go to Millikan HS? I went there with Jack and had the biggest crush on his sister DD. Good times

I lived off Stearns and Palo Verde growing up. I was too young to get involved or go to any of these parties but my uncle Chris Holt was all in I think they played at his house a couple times off Peabody

I'm pretty sure I was at that first Vicious Circle show....I was at the Fleetwood 4 days a week, and was at the GERMS shows there....I think the GERMS played there once in 79? and twice in 80 the second show of which was their break up show the FLEETWOOD....one of THE best punk clubs and it's usually ignored The Bags, Circle Jerks and FEAR were filmed there for Decline of Western Civilization Ron quit Black Flag there.... ALL the Hollywood bands came down to south Redondo to play there All the OC bands came up to play there the Pedro bands Black Flag, Circle Jerks and Red Cross LIVED there practically

I once went into Tipitinas in N'orleans early for a show and sat at the bar with some guys until Circle Jerks were to take the stage at which point the guys left the bar and got on stage to play. I was a teenager and oblivious to the fact I was chilling with the band. Lol reading this comment brings back crazy memories for some reason. Respect 🙏

I lived in LB walking distance to Millikan HS where I / Jack and a bunch of other punks went . I used to ride my bike from Long Beach to Redondo King Harbor to fish for bonito - right past the Fleetwood . TSOL played at Millikan - I think that was 1980? .

I remember me and my friends being getting rousted by Redondo cops in the Fleetwood parking lot and taking our case of beer and about a quarter oz of hash from us, then told us to get lost. So we walked back into the Fleetwood. After that, it became the Smoke Stack. Those were the days

I fucking love Jack. TSOL were one of the greatest bands. Never got the full credit they deserved especially when it comes to horror punk, they were doing it even before the misfits. If I could get Jack Grisham, Greg Graffin, and Matt Skiba in the same room, my life would be complete and the stories those 3 could tell. Oh man.

I read your book Jack my wife got it for me for an anniversary present. I loved it man. I'm in recovery KINDA. Barely holding here lately. Bands like Pennywise, and your music keep me going in all this crazy shit. Thank you. You made me laugh tonight!

I grew up in OC off and on in the 70's and 80's ... just like the mob in NYC before RICO was established, So CA was tolerant as long as nobody was killed... we committed felonies all weekend like nothing happened.. before cell phones... cameras.. etc etc ..... it was a GLORIOUS time... I am glad I grew up in this time... I seriously feel sorry for teens today.... they are squeezed into a 1 inch box of nothingness while being FORCED to think and act in specific directions.. Oh, and I remember when we would leave our house open... and garage open too... nothing was ever stolen .... nothing...

@@jv20224 Same thing here in California before the 90's.. the Democrat draconianism had not peaked yet and it was wonderful here.. for example, I remember in the early 80's we were pulled over .. we were all underage... we had beer all over the car.. we had rifles in the car (we had went shooting) the car was not currently registered... no car insurance.. no nothing ..long story short, the cop just made us pour out the beer ran a check on the rifles...and told us to get out of his area... that shit NEVER happens today... NEVER.. now we would be in county jail with felony charges costing THOUSANDS of dollars..

...i was always glad Human / Pat / Todd were on my side during those unhinged years. lol. we got in a lot of fights back in the day (not because we wanted to but because we had to) so these weak ass entitled faux punk victim-claiming kids could look the way they do now. VC were the real deal - violence personified for sure...the TSOL parka crew too were insane for they were mostly made up of the ol' VC troop. these truly were "the good ol days".

...thru the others yes...i did not "hang" with with him much though - i was a couple years younger than all of them and came from anacrime (i would hitch a ride with some older cats that could drive to go to the "studio" and watch TSOL rehearse (and go to zed's) - they also looked out for me at gigs being as i was bit younger 'n' all and i was extremely glad for that. i was closer with Ron and Mike. (in fact Ron joined my band after he quit TSOL in the latter part of the 80's)....when i say "we" got in a lot of fights i certainly mean ALL punk rockers from 76-83 era in OC/LA - it simply was par for the course that you would have to throw hands for being "punk in public" (even if you did not like to fight you had to get on board quick with fisticuffs and being called "f*ggot" and hearing "devo sux" was regular banter from the rest of society - lol) as well as with being rolled up on/hassled by the police constantly (the hatred the cops had at that time towards "punk rockers" was palpable) - heck i was on file in zooport alone over 40 plus times for simply being there and having cropped messy hair and a Damned (or other punk groups) button pinned on an old man vintage button down tee - lol truth be told a lot of the dudes hanging out around TSOL back in the early years were simply bat-sh*t crazy (like Jack states here) and simply looking for a place to vent their deep rooted hidden mental/emotional issues ....violence/chaos was glorified encouraged and enjoyed (the music seemed secondary to a lot of them - not all but a good portion of 'em) - hence why i was VERY glad they "liked" me and i was not on the other end of their vitriol venting angst! lol! all the best!!@@georgb6175
