I owned an 8mm of this fight when I was a kid 60 years ago and watched the knockdown frame-by-frame several times until the image was ruined! (Hey, I was a kid.) I was never able to believe Johnson's dropping to the canvas was on the level. He begins his descent, one leg folded, before big windmill right arrives, arcing over his head as he falls. I read years later that Johnson said he faked it to add drama for theatrical showings of the fight film. Who knows. Both were genuinely great fighters, but the size difference made it an exhibition, not a real contest.
