The biggest problem is people keep reporting the wrong story. Jack Phillips refused service to nobody. He offered to do everything the clients wanted, except make any reference to the wedding. That's it. This was a sham lawsuit from the start and I'm so glad the couple that filed it lost and wasted all that time and money doing so.

Boy this comment section is full of people who either didn't read or watch this case. No one said it's ok to pick and choose your clients. He never refused service, he offered to give them anything but would not take part in a wedding. So no as a business owner you can't refuse customers, that would be stupid, but you can refuse SERVICE based on circumstances. Example for anyone confused. I, a bake shop owner myself, and a black man will gladly serve any members of the KKK, as long as they behave while in my place. HOWEVER if they asked me to design a cake for their lynch party I have the right to tell them to fk off. JFC people scroll past the freaking titles.

The case doesn’t even really say he was correct in doing what it did. It says that at the stat level the process he went through was biased against him. The state could start the process over again and still find that the baker broke the law. The court failed to answer all questions presented to them due to the fact their isn’t much precedent for this. Like you said not only do people not read this stuff they aren’t taught how to interpret it which they should be.

Carl Mack We serve and cut the cake, so yes. Ask any artist if they feel involved when their works are used by someone else. It's not uncommon. Personally it's mostly about money to me so I don't feel the same.

pastor brian the baker said that baking the cake went against his beliefs and he would be happy to do another design. He’s not homophobic because of that. So if a black man wants you to rob a bank with him but you decline because it goes against your beliefs, does that make you racist? I mean come on guy. Instead of letting the media tell you what to think, you need to listen to the source and see where he is coming from. He never said they weren’t allowed in his place of work. He never refused to service them (just that particular design he had an issue with).

Yet, you want to put this power back in the government's incapable hands. So, would you feel the same if it had been that stupid peckerwood Richard Spencer suing a black tattoo artist for refusing to do a "White Power" tattoo, or would you feel that the business owner would have the right to turn the customer away?

Title 2, 1964 civil rights act. Public accommodations public, or privately operated are not allowed to refuse service on the basis of race, religion, color, or national origin. If buisness owners were being kept from doing buisness with minorities by the state, why is there a law compelling buisness owners to serve? Your argument makes literally no sense at all whatsoever.

I think that is the whole point. He was not refusing service to sell them something, just a message. So he would gladly sell them a cake, cookies or whatever - if they want a special theme or message, they can take there cake to another bakery and decorate it how ever they want!

Besides religious freedom! The baker is not a slave! No one has the right to make people customize or create art (cakes) for anyone. The baker welcomed them to purchase items off the shelf. However, his hands, body, and mind are his to do as he want!

This is America we are not living in a dictatorship country. This is a free country and he has every right to refuse services to anyone or anything he's not agree with. You cannot force anybody to eat any food that his stomach is not agreed with. Therefore, he has the right to refuse services to things that hes not agree with.

Why are people calling Jack a bigot? He did refuse to make them the cake that they wanted, but he offered to sell them other things. And he even offered to make other cakes for them. If he was a bigot, he wouldn't have offered them anything, and he would've demanded that they leave his shop and not come back.

U dont impose ur personal religion beliefs on a costumer. After all theyre not invited to the wedding,they only do the cook and sell and adios.

I agree with the courts but what gives me pause is what if someone says "my religion says dark skin is a curse from God and I'm forbidden to interact with people who aren't white" You may argue there is no such religion but that doesn't stop someone from making such a religion and claim followers who would love to bring back segregation. Then what does the govt do in that situation? If this baker were approached by an interracial couple and he says my religion doesn't allow for me to make a cake with a black man and white woman on the cake. Would there be a different tune about this whole story?
