Damn... I tried running the video "blind" behind another browser window and guessing along with Jack. I mistook the Yamaha for the real one! And I've been playing, voicing and repairing wurlies for years. I must say, though, that Jacks Wurlie is a 200a and they tend to sound a little darker than the older models like the 200 that I own. The Yamaha might be modelled on a 200 rather than a 200a, possibly? The Nord was very easy to pick out. Despite Dan saying there is no amp on there, I'm pretty sure he was using the amped sample, which is very easy to spot. The Korg one is just atrocious. I'd wish Nord would try to catch up with Yamaha and ontroduce more/better Wurly samples. Would especially be nice if they would offer some of the older tube-based models as well.
@andy51783 жыл бұрын
Actually, Nord does offer an older, but non-amped Wurlitzer patch. They should have tried out that one, imho, as it's closer to an original 200A.
@ZakiWasik3 жыл бұрын
@@andy5178 right, but it would still be easy to pick out compared to Yamaha. Try to take the original sample and apply a bit of amp sim. Sounds almost like the new sample and it works better dynamically because the amp sim actually responds more realistic to dynamics as opposed to the sample.

I play a Wurlitzer EP200A which I absolutely love and I have a Nord too which is great but it'll never quite replace the real deal for Wurli alone. I don't know if it is the same model as the one in the CP73 but it sounds real close to me but I have never played a CP73 to compare. I'd love to know though.

Wow. Ears of gold there. I,m really a guitarist (40 yrs playing) but do love keyboards, especially EP (big fan of that Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report, Chick Corea, Van Der Graaf Generator 70's vibe) and I would not have got this test no way. I had a Yamaha DX7ii back in the early 90's and that thing could not reproduce strings without sounding harsh, nor analogue pads or swells that sounded warm and lush. It couldn't do much of anything bar destroy brain cells trying to learn how to program the damn thing. Bar existing as a mother keyboard. Bar a half decent sounding EP, the one thing it could do without being offensive to my ears. My Moog Rogue though. Oh man. That cost me 40 quid back in 1991. Someone nicked it. I was so pissed.

Why is the actual Wurlitzer breaking up with distortion? Fucking amateurs! Playing the SV2 sort of gave away his hand (no pun intended) by playing outside the range of an actual 200. The Wurlie should have been easy to pick out, as it's easy to hear the mechanics of the actual instrument in the air at that close range. The SV has an editor that lets you really dive deep into more parameters so I'm surprised that they couldn't match the sound better.
