Jack, I took my daughter on bike rides with her and her brother on weekends to keep fit and enjoy nature when they were children. I was told recently by my now 30 something daughter she hated the bike rides and it was torture. I tried to give her what I didn't have but she didn't like it and I should have listened to her more. However, she is now an engineer and doing so amazing professionally, I finally listened and pushed her into doing what she wanted and her life is her success not mine. You will work it out and listen to your son, he has his own journey just like you. We all grow thick skin as parents but I tried and did what I could with the tools. That is all we can do.

I’m the daughter of a mother who took us for long walks as a child. At 30 I might have said the same to her. I’m now 50 and recognize the most valuable things I have are things she gave me, chief among them is a love of nature. The healing power of nature, which is something that I value more than I can express, is a direct result of the nature walks she took me on as a child. I say again, at 30 your daughter may have that view, in time that may change.

Charlie, hahaha...I'm laughing because I did similar to you, EXCEPT that I had two...two complete opposites that is....oh my word! One would want to bike, the other would want to go bowling, one would want to rollerblade, the other would want to go for ice cream....I could never get them to agree and it always turned into one of them having a temper tantrum.....they DID both love nature though and we did lots of hiking including all the neighborhood kids along with us, lol. My children are both adults now with their own kids and they are wonderful parents....the grands ALL love GOD'S nature and are all very active kids...no couch potatoes in the group!

Your authenticity shines through Jack. If I could make one small suggestion, try to accept compliments. It’s hard. It feels wrongs. It was hard for me for a long time. But simply saying “thank you” and internally accepting a compliment has been profoundly important to my personal growth. You don’t have to believe it about yourself. Just accept and acknowledge the compliment gifted to you.

I could not agree more !!! Accepting the compliments and I also believe that’s the path of growing “we know and believe” he will get there and it’s important!! Actually my rational is that you do have him 100% now because 1) when you spend your week with him, you make sure it's dedicated to him. 2) the week you're not with him, you spend reflecting upon how to be a better dad. By nature, we take people for granted when we have access to them all the time. Now that you have to share your son you're more mindful. And a different set of rules from both parents sets a good foundation for adulthood.

Mark, I love your varied interview style. In some, like the one I listened to this morning about losing a child, you let the person speak, in some, you conduct an interview, asking questions, and then there are the gems like this one where you're having a chat with a friend. It's nice to see the variety.

I honestly just forgot all the stupid ideals of how I should be “raising” my son. The only thing that matters is they are heard and loved. Who cares if they don’t eat all their food? Who cares if he doesn’t want to go down a slide? Who cares if nothing goes as planned? Life is meant to be enjoyed. And all the kind, caring, courageous, adventurous, curious, diligent traits I wanted my son to possess and understand……I fostered them every day as he was growing up. I don’t have the words to explain how I did this every day. But I did. I was abused and neglected as a little girl. I know what it feels like to be ignored and my character assassinated. Because…. my mother didn’t know how to be a mother. She’s mentally ill. I instilled the importance of doing the things that are necessary and important. But I never made him feel less because he had his own feelings. He’s a beautiful person. He’s 15. I’m sure he’ll have some issues because of his dad and I divorcing. But he talks to me. And that’s important.

Obviously don't know him personally but he did admit to being a narcissistic sociopath. He is charming and appears kind but who knows how he is for example with a woman behind closed doors. I knew a narc who appeared like this a complete charmer on the outside but a manipulative, abusive a hole behind closed doors. Hope this isn't the case with him but it's easy to have blinders on and missing the keywords between the lines.

At times I think That specific insecure feeling is rooted in the "Fake it till you make it" mentality. I'm 36 but sometimes I still feel like a young boy in a man's body. And I still observe others in order to learn and emulate how I perceive a man should be and operate. My father was not always good to us and didn't teach us boys how to grow into successful young men so a lot of life I had to figure out on my own.

5 minutes in, and I relate to this interview the most so far. Nothing about our lives is similar except the co-parenting thoughts. Parent guilt is so real and I know exactly how he felt when he said he thought about the way he reacted to his son at the slide. I had an amazing childhood with parents that are still married and happy to this day and I still feel like I have no idea what I am doing as a Mother. Just love them and be the best version of ourselves. If we truly do those two things, we might see more happiness in the world.

Now just today, more than a month later, I'm seeing this one. Jack is so loveable. How can anyone hear his story and watch how he explains his life with such humility and not love him? For me, that's impossible. You are a good man for making these interviews. I just wish the language was such that I could repost them to a wider audience. As I am a teacher, I can't do that. I comment on your videos from time to time, Mark… But most of the time my hands are busy. Most often, I’ll give the video a ‘like’ and go onto the next video. I have to say… Jack’s story tremendously stood out to me. The week I watched his first video… I had a client who was dealing with a trouble some teenager, and because of your videos, I had asked about trauma. As soon as I said that… She burst into tears. I’m a Tattoo Artist… So my relationship with my clientele is very intimate, (counselor like at times) as I am in their personal space majority of the time we are together. I then watched your interview with Jack, again with her. Jack, you allowed this mother to have Faith in her child’s (young adult) journey. I also believe, your story gave her a completely different view on a better way to cope with her child’s problems, and better ways to seek help for her child. I just had to comment, to let you know, you sharing your story will help others in ways you’ll never even know! LONG LIVE SOFT WHITE UNDERBELLY!!! 🥰 p.s. luv ya Mark!!!!!! Keep MF rocking!!!!!

Also, that line you quoted is pretty rich coming from Mark...isn't Mark the same guy who was soliciting and coercing some of the prostitutes he was interviewing and "helping." Here's the problem, though: who gets to decide what is inappropriate and what is not? Some HR "expert" like you with an associates degree? In a nutshell, YOU are the problem.

Deeply inspiring Jack. Thank you for your honesty and able to be vulnerable. We all see it. I am a clinical psychologist and I continued to specialise in Psychoanalytic psychotherapy. I worked at a rehab facility as a locum for a few months and I stressed to my patients that the end of their in-patient treatment is not the end of their treatment. It is after clinic discharge when in a way the tough therapy starts when you don’t have the clinic and the day programme to hold you. I don’t want to downplay skills based therapy or CBT as their is a place for those approaches too, but it’s intense, at least 3 times a week in the chair or on the couch in analytic therapy where deep structural change happens. Where the unconscious becomes conscious. That deep structural modification cannot happen in short-term or skills based therapy. If you’re reading this Jack, search for low-fee psychoanalysis clinics in LA - if that is the type of therapy work you feel you need or would like to experience. It’s long-term but profoundly liberating. Thank you again for sharing your story with us.

@@jackdoherty1412 You’re welcome. I watched your previous interview to remind myself of your story. I appreciate your opening up & allowing yourself to be vulnerable. It is never easy. Despite all of the darkness, it is in these safe spaces where we find that there really are others just like ourselves. I remember when I came forward with what had happened to me, more than anything else, I felt all alone. Being an only child, raised by grandparents with a mother who didn’t believe me, felt so isolating. I had a little therapy, but the other girls in group, I thought, had it way worse than I did. I thought that there was no way anyone else had experienced what I had. Up until I saw the movie precious. When you mentioned sitting around the grown ups just watching them hangout, I yelled out YES to the television. 😂 Although my grandparents were older, they’re the reason I love board games, card games & puzzles! I’m so glad you have kept in touch & got the chance to come back. You look great!!! ❤️‍🔥 I LOVE that you’re not scripted & look forward to seeing you again. P.S. I’m off to go explore your channel. I already subscribed & turned on ALL the notifications. You have my support!!

Don't ever doubt yourself in your life specially as a father! we are all humans and do mistakes. If you have this opportunity to go forward with this channel go for it. Jack.. the fact that you are even aware and conscience of how your emotions affect your relationship with your child is the most important. Most parents are blind to the fact that their emotions and actions have a large effect on their kid. You’re learning how to be a parent every day & every child and relationship is different so you cant handle every situation and child the same. Everyone gets triggered at things & your aware that your emotions affect him, its just all about understanding your triggers. Your a great person though i can tell.

Don’t ruin him. It amazes me how Americans put politics into basically every scenario. Very few Canadians would watch or listen to someone, then comment how they should be prime minister. Such a difference in the two countries.

First off..Jake is a babe. My parents were divorced when I was 2 and I do think it’s better to not remember them together.. it was normal.. and the fact that your son gets your undivided attention when he is with you is incredible. There is an add about adoption that says there is no such thing as a perfect parent.. and there isn’t an isolated conversation with your child that will outweigh your overall great parenting give yourself some grace.. I love your social awareness. That is a big part of the battle. You reflect so deeply on things and you can tell you are a good person.. don’t let your bad times outweigh your self worth because you are amazing. Keep it up! Going to sub to your channel now 😊

It's amazing how good you both are at accepting your own stories and each other's stories. Jack talks about all his messes, Mark mentions that he never really messed up in any big ways, and you both are perfectly comfortable with that and there's no comparison, no insecurity, no survivor's guilt from Mark nor shame and self punishment from Jack.

Mark has messed up in big ways. One of wc is messing w female interviewees, to the point of having seggs w working girl Royalty, as admitted by both participants on the for-pay channel. It's in the "documentary" of a day or two in a prostitute's life (Royalty was the subject).

‘Honest vulnerable conversations’, very well said and why I watch these interviews. A modern day glimpse of the human condition, real stories about real people. Most tragic and incomprehensible with tragic endings, others with positive outcomes. We’re all broken and we all experience the same feelings, it’s part of the human condition that connects us. So much to be gained through these stories. Best to the both of you ✌🏻❤🌻

This is the first time I feel personally uneasy when I it went about the no friends thing. Social media made me see reality about humanity: it is destructive, selfish and full of hate. I started hating humans so much now.. I just go to work and i stopped every social activity, i got a divorce as well and the thing left that i still love are animals. I'm not a real alcoholic but drink half a bottle of wine everyday so I guess I am. But seriously the loss of faith in humanity with all its fake religions.. I mean I trust literally nobody anymore. Mark's videos just keep me stable and prevent me from getting worse. But hearing why so many don't have friends.. Its the pain of awareness in this world.

15:54 @jack I love this - when I was growing up, my grandparents had a lake house where we would have family get togethers- my parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles would sit around this huge table and play trivial pursuit (most had a drink or three) and talk and laugh and give each other a hard time - no one ever got angry - those are my favorite memories!
