As a referee myself (not a top one, I just do stuff like MLS Next, ECNL, that level here in the US), I think Andy is spot on about refs trying so hard not to be biased that they end up doing so the other way. I know I personally have a problem with calls after having to warn or caution a coach, that if they are yelling at me about something specific (say a push in the back or a certain challenge or something), I keep an extra close eye out for that, and 9/10 times the next call for that specific incident will go against that team. It's never something I consciously do, but a trend I've noticed when looking back on games I've worked
