Thanks Lorna, I have watched a few reviews of the Jackory, all by men, who think it's not important to clearly explain what the thing actually does !! Your review explained it all a lot clearer, together with timings for charging all accessories AND the Jackory itself. I wondered how that was done (I'm a bit of a technophobe !! 🙃). Thanks again, and I think the more people buy this, then prices will start to come down - which is when I will buy one!! So far, since I usually only go away for long weekends, my phone has kept it's charge. Thanks again, nice clear review 👍✔💯

My opinion, that was a very well done review. It told the people watching what the device would do and what the short coming were according to your needs.

Hi Lorna. I live in an all electric bungalow. We already have two cartridge type gas cookers with numerous cartridges for emergency's. Over the last week I had been looking at the Jackery 500 with a view to adding it to my 'backup plan'. Your very down to earth review has probably just convinced me to purchase one. The solar panel will have to wait though. I know it won't power anything over 200 watts, but with modern low energy bulbs I know we won't be sat in the dark. Thanks Lorna, you are equally as good (if not better) than David. Just don't say I said so.

This could be a potentially useful emergency power source if there is disruption to the electric grid.

I just wanted to know how many times it charged devices and not milly amp this and that. Very logical review and that's what's needed. Thanks.

Lorna does great reviews. I’ve been evaluating getting solar power for my van that I use for camping. I’m hesitant to attach permanent solar because I’m already utilizing the roof for transporting equipment. The Jackery seems to fit the bill although the 1000 model would be my choice. Thanks Lorna!

Standing the Jackery so it shades part of your solar panels won't help with charging.

Cruising Alba reviewed the Jackery 1000 this week. As you say very useful at night when you can't run the engine or generator.

Interesting device with some "bridging power" and "emergency power" (public power system shutdowns) attributes that are evident from your presentation. Here in Nor Cal we stock up on various battery powered lighting devices to counteract our local "greed first, customers second" quasi public power company, which only performs maintenance once a system has totally failed. ...On a separate note, I like the all white interior of your narrowboat, the narrow space feels less captured.

Nice review. The jackery and similar products don't "generate" electricity, they just store it for later distribution. I'm thinking on a narrowboat, if you already have deep cycle batteries, and potentially solar, increasing the number of deep cycle batteries (if you have space) would be the most cost effective, and using your on-board inverter. However, for the vehicle camping or recreational activities (as long as you aren't backpacking it), it makes more sense, especially if you have the solar charging option. And as you point out, it definitely has limitations, but for what you need, it should work well. PS - I have been surprised how many they've sent out to narrowboater vloggers for review. I guess for them, that's cheap advertising.

Thanks for sharing the video. The thing that bothers me about the Jackery Explorer 500 is that it only has 1 AC slot.

Thanks for a good and honest review. I am currently looking to purchase a portable and use anywhere back up emergency power system. Just one question to ask you, could this unit be charged up from a much larger fixed panel on the roof of my vehicle, would the plugs be compatible? David in Dudley.

The Explorer 500 is nice, except for the price. It's quite high on the price when compared to the other power stations of the same capacity.

Good vlog… and a good point about leaving the solar panel unattended…. With your big van window screen, I was wondering if you could set up the solar screen on your dashboard, leaving it locked up in your vehicle while it’s charging… would the auto glass interfere in the charging ability?

Something really wrong if you have it in full sun and that panel is only charging at 9W, that panel is rated at 100w. Even in less than ideal conditions you should be getting way more than 9w input from it.

The price is four times what it worth. The portable set up I use in my van and the cold box cost less. And I run my laptop off of 12v.
