20 years after he first appeared in front of cameras in Australia, martial arts superstar and acting legend Jackie Chan gave his first public talk at Sydney Opera House. Exploring his extraordinary life and career - from the '78 Hong Kong hit Drunken Master and Hollywood breakthrough Rumble in the Bronx to the upcoming Bleeding Steel (to be filmed in Sydney) - the Chinese superstar discussed his signature blend of comedy and kung-fu, his life-long commitment to philanthropy, and his relationship with Australia since first living here with his family.
At seven years of age, Jackie Chan was enrolled in the China Drama Academy to hone his skills in martial arts and Chinese Opera. As the Hong Kong film industry reached a new peak in popularity, he jumped into stunt-work, quickly gaining a reputation for his inventive and fearless style. When the local film industry suffered a decline, he relocated to Australia to join his family but returned to Hong Kong to achieve the break-through movie success that set him on the path to becoming the screen icon we know today.
A tireless cultural ambassador who has revolutionised the film industry, Jackie Chan delighted audiences as he discussed his celebrated life and career during an intimate and lively discussion on the Concert Hall stage.

Rewatching this in Sept 2023… I’d the same reaction to the host’s comment, as if it was something he wouldn’t normally admit to. My first thought, “what a snob“ (the host, of course). Then he went into talking more about himself than about Jackie. “And self-centered” was my 2nd thought. Good thing he had scripted questions that were directly about Jackie. 😅

I love that he could speak about Bruce Lee freely as long as he wanted without any interuption from the host. This is the only time i have seen Jackie Chan express himself fully. He really loved Bruce Lee just as everybody else did and does and Lee himself really saw in Jackie that he was a great martial artist with amazing speed and timing. Its no question that Bruce Lee saw something unique and special in him and Jackie felt this. They really began to bound as friends and i bet if Bruce was alive he would definitly do a movie with Jackie right after game of death but sadly the dragon died and the little dragon was born..Really moving and an touching song at the end too.You are the greatest mr Chan.

He feels like he has a lot of positive energy and lessons to share. Not because he wants the next generation to be a certain way, but from all the hard knocks he’s survived, he genuinely appreciates the lessons he has learned and wants to share. Obviously he is very proud of himself for letting go of himself and learning them but his lessons stem from appreciation and not pride.

I’m on a Jackie Chan interview marathon and I can’t stop. He’s just so lovable to watch. Not just entertaining but you gain some wise knowledge from each one. He’s a very intelligent guy. May we remember and celebrate his life while he’s still here with us in 2023 and forward.

As same as great Bruce Lee ( "Be water, my friend"--- Bruce Lee, his thoughts're based on 2500 years ago's Chinese philosopher, Lao Zi ), the great Jackie Chan's super-great work & his honesty, intelligence, braveness & his being humble & his great humor are actually from Chinese culture basically. *I've watched this interview many times especially the "Bruce Lee"-part & I often can't help but crying:--- " Oh! Bruce Lee, he touched me!" & " I saw Bruce Lee held the taxi & looked back me ( for a while ) & he died in a month "--- I often think whenever I watching Bruce Lee's & Jackie Chan's interviews that--- thanks God, I've been living with great Bruce & Jackie in my living time!!!

Jackie seems very humble, and personable. He always plays the gentleman, and never uses vulgar language in his movies. Also, a very talented singer. It would be an honour, and a privilege to meet him someday.

This is my first time seeing Jackie Chan’s talk show and he makes me laugh so much with his real life stories. I enjoyed this more than any of his movies he has ever made, I’d say I watched most of his movies ! He is real here and such an ordinary man but has become so successful for his hard work and endurance and is so kind and gives back so much to society. He is an extraordinarily man ! I remember watching his Drunken Master movie when I was young! I will watch this show again when I’m down as he cheers me up and great message! 成龍加油!

Li IS Mao's Last Dancer but no one would even know his fame as he 'handed' it all over to Jackie. Two genuinely humble, wonderful, talented, inspirational, giving people! Comfortable enough to bathe in each others light! Thank you Jackie and thank you Li! 🙏🙌

Have watched several of Mr. Jackie's interviews and I think he is visibly more at ease and more spontaneous on this one. I understand it as him being with his people🥰 Really respect how he narrated about that story about his name. Is it just me or anybody else find him just so charming without trying?😁😅😊🥰 This is the kind of interview I could listen to again and again. There are so many things which could be learned and the beauty of it is they were delivered in a story and conversation form and not in a preach-y, dense sermon.
