We decided to try another cafeteria for lunch.
This time, it was Jackson's Cafeteria, located at:
1453 East Franklin Blvd.
Gastonia, NC

I agree with you that a cafeteria that doesn't have fried chicken is a questionable establishment. Next time you are in the Winston Salem area you need to try Mountain Fried Chicken. There is one on University Parkway and one on Akron Drive. Absolutely fabulous chicken.

Hickory also has a Mountain Fried Chicken that I have considered trying, but just haven't yet.

Yes, we agree about the price. I think maybe us getting 3 sides instead of our usual 2, and then a dessert, may have had something to do with it. But it did seem like a lot.

Walking down those halls reminded me of a school. Everything looked good. Food should be hot. Happy Cafeterias 😊 oh, and Japanese fruit pie is halarious!

Yeah, I was kind of amused at how my dessert was listed on the receipt. And yes, I can see how that would make one think of a school. This cafeteria was okay, but probably a one and done for us.

We did we did the St Augustine Lighthouse and museum last year. I love lighthouses.

Thanks for sharing another cafeteria. I know you were disappointed about the fried chicken not being on the menu. I agree that is a staple in cafeterias. We had such a good experience at K&W that I think we would have been disappointed here from looking at your review. The prices were definitely higher, since they didn't have a special like a meat, 2 veggies, dessert and drink. The portion sizes were an ample amount. Thanks for sharing! Good review!

Thanks for watching. Yes, I was very surprised about the fried chicken. Nothing I had was bad, but still...They need fried chicken as a daily option.

Hello, long time subscriber. First time comment. Love yalls videos! That Jackson's used to be in the old Gaston Mall until it closed I'm thinking around 2008-2009? It is good. I'd like yall to do a review of Ray Nathan's BBQ in Gastonia, or Hillbillies I'm Lowell. Those are both pretty good in my opinion. Keep doing what yall are doing!

I'm with Derek on this. A cafeteria HAS to have fried chicken. I grew up on S&S Cafeteria and you could always count on three things: fried chicken, roast beef, and deviled eggs.

Yes, that was a first for me. I don't think I've ever seen a cafeteria that doesn't have fried chicken every day.

At least they had the chicken and dumplings on Saturday, though. That, or chicken pot pie, is what she usually likes to get. Me, it is always fried chicken in a cafeteria. Always has been, and always will be.

Do you remember Morrisons Cafeteria from years ago. I am not a big fan of Cafeteria's because you have to pay for everything separately and that really starts to add up. The decor was very nice. Thank you for another excellent review.

I absolutely remember Morrison's. I think I even referenced them in the video, if I remember correctly. That was my favorite growing up.

Hi! I am with you! That was a little steep for a cafeteria...however, I was impressed with the amount of each item they gave you. I wish it had been hot for you, but unfortunately...as is often in any buffet...it's not going to be. It looked very good though. I must agree with you on the chicken. Fried is all I will eat in chicken, and for a cafeteria not to have it....is unheard of! Maybe they will see your review and change that. Stay safe and thanks for sharing!

I genuinely hope they do change it. I will eat grilled chicken or barbecued chicken, and even smoked chicken. I'm not against baked chicken, except that this baked chicken did not look good at all. That's why I didn't want it. But when it comes to a cafeteria, it is absolutely fried chicken for me, all the way. I think cafeteria fried chicken is some of the best. I was disappointed that I did not get to try theirs. Thanks so much for watching!

@@NCMemoryMakers my wife loves cracker chicken and dumplings ,when we travel by car to florida from ohio my wife times everything so she can get chicken and dumplings from cracker barrel and my weakness is the old style candy

You need to try Talley House in Troutman, NC they have cafeteria style and family-style

I'm sure it's great, but we rarely ever go to Troutman just to eat. Pretty long drive, unless we had other business in the area.

I live in Gastonia and have not been to Jackson's in years. It is strange to not have fried chicken. I love their German Chocolate Pie. I like hot food, not medium warm. They do have good yeast rolls. I really did not care for their food, but that is very expensive meal. I always liked their beef tips on rice or spaghetti bake. Restaurants are very expensive.

Yes, it really is. I think they do have it certain days of the week. I've just never seen a cafeteria that doesn't have it every day.

Unfortunately, there are so few left. I used to love Morrison's the best. There was a J&S Cafeteria, which was local to our area. I think there may only be one or two of those left, but I love them. And then K&W is really good.

Come on, you can get fried chicken on every other corner. You go to the cafe to get stuff that you don't get everywhere.

Perhaps you didn't catch, when I said that cafeteria fried chicken tends to be the best fried chicken? So, it is not like getting it "on every other corner". I could also point out that the other selections...fish, country style steak, etc, can also be found "on every other corner". Nothing really unique in the cafeteria, that you can't find anywhere else.

@@NCMemoryMakers Their roast beef is good. Hard to find that at the fast food joints. If in Gaston County and looking for some fried chicken, I would direct you to the Shrimp Boat.

@@DTatham1 We rarely eat in Gaston County. But thank you for the suggestion. Nothing against the area, but we usually pass through when we are en route to somewhere, like Charlotte or Myrtle Beach. We just don't stop that often. We have been to Cheddar's and Steak n' Shake a few times, but we wanted to try Jackson's, because we really love cafeterias, and were told about this one. I'm sure their roast beef is good. I just like to get chicken when I go to a cafeteria.

@@DTatham1 I certainly agree on the hot dogs. We also love their milkshakes. Stopped there last week, in fact, and got one.
