Raise your head high and keep grinding.” - Germany Kent (This is not directed at Watts Arrangements, btw-I always love a good critique!) Even if A&T had not won, I PROMISE you, you would not have seen NCAT alumni or fanbase acting out like this or slandering JSU. I've never seen anything like it. And I thought SU fans were bad!! (I love both SU and JSU btw). If JSU is that great, and they are, why does it take ESPN to say it? Have any of you 'bandheads' reached out to the judges?? It ain't like A&T crowned themselves!! That's what makes these arguments even funnier. Black people will never admit it but we STILL hate on each other and don't want anybody else to be great (crabs). All because of this band competition. Sad. Slandering a fellow HBCU or anybody for that matter is never good. I'm really disappointed at some of y'all, tbh. I thought we as a people were better than that. But y'all go ahead. Keep talking and running your blood pressure up over ONE band competition. No amount of discrediting or slander will change ANYTHING about NCAT. In fact, the more y'all talk, the more NCAT grows. People have to learn the difference between disagreement over the scoring process and "slander". I haven't seen many saying NCAT show was trash. It wasn't. I have heard people saying they don't agree with the scoring and them being designated BOTY. That's not slander.

As for level of drill difficulty JSU should’ve definitely received a higher rating than NCA&T. For JSU’s drills were far more riskier; considering the wavy, diagonal formations of A&T are much easier to pull off for they’re simply intensional crooked lines as opposed to JSU’s 40 yards long lateral lines. (The fact that this aspect was disregarded is bewildering)

NC A&T nor Norfolk St do what y'all calling a Intro, they both run on the field, there's no crime committed and it's not a requirement in this competition. Nowhere in the rules does it state that. JSU took a risk implementing a difficult drills that wasn't near clean they made a number of mistakes including incomplete patterns. So, they received deductions for those mistakes and that took out their difficulty. What is known to happen when you competing in a technical competition.

They have their own way of doing things. They set themselves apart when it comes to fieldshows. Maybe they like to use every second they have to jump straight into the show instead of wasting time marching onto the field.

no this is not a battle, this is a competition. the difference is a battle is a showcase the isnt scored. a competition is graded, if one does risky but cool thing and messes up, it dont matter they jacked it up its that simple

Graded and scored is basically the same. One uses numbers the other uses alphabets. This is the same realm as a battle of the bands. Same setup and criteria the only difference is that we don't know what the judges was grading on.

Also a battle is not a showcase. A showcase is usually a single band displaying a repertoire of music. A battle is a judged battle just like a competition which is a judged battle. Same criteria different name.

I like to see the entire show. That is how I judge everything it's not fair that one shows the full show and others don't. So if a school messed up the intro and was shown but the other school didn't do an intro but didn't show it points is taken from the school that showed the intro and the other band escapes from it. You see where I'm going?

@WattsArrangements yes but also it ain't apart of the show because from experience we sometimes get on the field and sit awhile. The moment jsu got in the ready position off the field they start. We weren't in our ready position so we hadn't started yet. And clearly you didn't know the criteria so it can't be judged clearly

I used to think he know what’s he talking about but he doesn’t. It’s just the opposite this was a exhibition completion show. The judges were not judging how you March onto and off the field. A&T does a combination of traditional and core style marching. So yes they were marching at ALL times. A&T doesn’t have dancers they have an Auxiliary squad who dances.

Coach Watts,..thank you. I was told they knew JSU would entice the crowd to come to the battle. Several years ago, watch NCA&T versus SU in Las Vegas. JSU is a draw. Though, FAMU and Howard were in town... I think. Gyrating...A&T. I shall listen to A&T' sound on the field and in the stand. Travel time in driving: Jackson, Ms to the ATL...381 miles. NCA&T...300 miles.

Disagree with you about A&T , they stayed true to their style … just like JSU stayed true to their style…. That band does not conform to anyone’s style because of their own originality. That’s what they should always bring to a battle…. Great jobs by both bands.

I never said they should change anything as far as marching on and off the field NCAT has multiple videos showing them march on the field and having a themed show. They did not do that this performance so are they staying true to what they do oh so well?

1) No bashing but this is why HBCU bands can't evolve. Why does it always have to be in a restricted field show order. Once a band try to change and do something different, it's wrong. 2) Walking on and walking off is just how ncat run things. 3) Also Ncat incorporates corps step qualities into their shows. They don't raise their knees when they back march. You have to remember that Ncat doesn't do things how a normal HBCU Swac does. Maybe stop criticizing on how a band should run a field show and just enjoy the show. All love, just be aware that this is a different era where bands are trying different things.

How can a band evolve without constructive criticism? You can easily back pedal and lift your knees then go into the east west playing ( I believe that is what it is called) and roll the hills back into the picking up of the knees. How is it a restriction if I am saying have an intro, drum major routine, drill and so on? You can literally be as creative as you want and incorporate whatever style just make sure all styles are executed properly. Don't half ass one to be able to do another. This different era of things is making drills simplified maybe there need to be a chance where people look at the earlier times and reimplement and add to instead of take away. 🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️

@@WattsArrangements Great argument but I never said "don't give constructive criticism". What I meant by that is try not to go criticize against what the band have been doing for years and say that this is wrong. I simply respect your content just because you point out things that bias people wouldn't see. But, at least keep a balance of compliments and criticism. Also when I say they incorporated corps style, I also meant by formations too. Anyone can do slants, stacks and pinwheels all day. Ncat focus on putting their sound forward the entire show, which requires high peripheral and judgment. People sit there and underrate how difficult these shows can be. But I can agree that this show was fairly a lot more easier than most. Much respect.

@@WattsArrangements Actually I have judged before. I can't say that I have seen THESE particular sheets. Again, all we can do is speculate on what specific rubrics or breakdown of the scores are. What I will stand on is that you can't penalize a band on what they DON'T do if it's not a written rule for it to be done. Just like JSU shouldn't be penalized for not having flags. A&T has been doing this similar format for years. And JSU doesn't use flags. FAMU doesn't have dancers. In my BIASED opinion, JSU was judged by East coast HBCU standards which favored A&T. Not all HBCU bands show designs and concepts are created equal. Unless they are running marches, there isn't a surefire clear way of judging them.

@@TheTeamIsSHaRP all the competitions I have hosted and judged there is always an entrance category and a side line blow down/exit. So that is what I am used to but taking those elements out JSU still takes because of musicality, drill, and field presence A&T show was safe and boring. The big excitement was the percussion and I'm still believing that the media was tampered or tweaked a little

@@WattsArrangements The media team is designed to make the show as clean as possible including sound. The media teams do adjust sound levels and stuff. That's why actually being there is important. I know that ALOT of people say that A&T doesn't not sound nearly as good as the media team make them appear to be, but that's a different story for another day. I think a band handbook is necessary for all of these things to be addressed. I believe that those elements should not be factored in to a bands score as they are not or should not be a requirement. We have to look at the bands for what they do on the field, not what you want them to do. When I look at a band I look at what they are doing and talk about what they can do to make THAT show better. Telling them they need to add a sideline blow down IMO is not good adjunication just like saying all a band needs are numbers. Like a band director can just simply go and snatch numbers without knowing if they have the funds, the college has the numbers, majors, a strong student retention, etc. I'm getting off topic. We should meet up one day and talk shop. A show being boring also should not factor as well. Because that's not what we are judging. To some degree that comes under general effect and total effect, but energy and hype can't really be measured objectively.

🗣️ ABOVE ALL ELSE: CONGRATULATIONS to the BAND OF THE YEAR crowned by band directors from HBCU conferences... 💙💛THE BLUE AND GOLD MARCHING MACHINE from NORTH CAROLINA A&T STATE UNIVERSITY AGGIE PRIDE!! 🐶💙💛 “I don’t know the criteria, but if I was judging it on the criteria, jsu would take it” is a wild statement… How you say they don’t have flags but you saw flags?? You aren’t biased against A&T cause I follow your channel and have enjoyed your videos before, but you was in your fefes about this one. To say that “most people cannot be biased cause they didn’t graduate from there” can go the same for the judges?? Quick fact check: 1. The foremost chair people of the judges panel were from jsu and famu (who are in the swac). 2. Not a soul can give you a credible reason that the competition, including the chair people above would rig this competition in A&T's favor. 3. Seeing better from A&T doesn't mean what you saw from jsu was better. This was judged by knowledgeable current and former band directors. This is no secret. Maybe they should have you and the rest of the “bandheads” in the comments judge next year. 😭🌚 It's widely available information. All you have to do is watch the press conference by showtime web. they aren't really deemed as flags because they are the dance team as well. And they can contact me and I would not have a problem judging 🤷🏾‍♂️ as far as being rigged I don't think like that. But distracted yes! The dancer/flag/twirlers and percussion took the show and people judged it as being better for that element instead of really looking at the show. As far as the two JSU judges I think they pulled away from judging the competition for certain reasons that I can't divulge.

You know they are the dancers cause they are proud of it. No one checks any other band’s auxiliaries for overlap… so why would it matter?? I practice the same thing with my dancers but it's with instruments. My dancers are required to be able to play an instrument so they have more to offer than just dancing.

Ncat sound is definitely different from field to stand. U can't hide what my ears hear. Them folks edited their sound. It was evident that jsu sound better and sound the same on and off the field. Hbcu worlds knows JSU won this battle off and on the field. Marketing sucked. ESPN needs to let hbcu market this event.

A&T played it smart as one should do in a technical competition especially when you have an idea how your opponent going go. JSU have been making mistakes in their drills all season it didn't matter to you because you not judging it from a technical perspective. Just like JSU tried by watching a lot of A&T's field performances to see where they might be able to increase their scores in other categories w/in the judges criterias. But doing difficult drills is a form of trying to coverup where mistakes are most likely to happen in hopes that the judges doesn't see it. That is why there was so many video cameras on the field, those were the judges extra eyes. That was telling me, that the judges are looking at every little thing and cleanliness was more important than anything. A&T didn't have to do too many extras, but there was some things they did that I never seen them do. Like the drill their DMs did to start the show. They did that to boost their score for the DM category. And to perform a show as clean as possible that's the goal. A&T already knew they were going score big in the auxiliary category of the judges criteria.

First off I am not a fool second they setup by the end zone and started their entrance from the tiger run-on to the fanfare position then marched down the field while drilling A&T literally walked to the fawking middle of the field and started the show.... wasn't a drill because they stayed on the 50 and then walked off the field like the show was all that. It's no where near the same thing. Stop making excuses and own up to the BS. Did I say these aspects make a field show? NO!!!! And you right when that whistle blow an entrance to your show should commence not the middle of the show.

I dont understand why you would call NCAT out for not including them running on to the field before the show began...they have nothing to hide, every show they filmed this season begings right before the DMs whistle, from Aggie/ Eagle to Band of the Year. Folks really cant take that NCAT, as crazy as it sounds, might just be a good band. Aint got to be a conspiracy to everything... 💛💙

Responding based on your reactions on real time to the video. 1. A&T hasn't had a field entrance for some time now. They always place themselves on the field to start the show. Don't act like this is new. 2. Yes jsu fucked up the drill 😂 3. Jsu trumpets made "you got it bad" other than that the arrangment wasn't fulfilled We just sat there and watched J5 bust 8 counts when the j settes could've been doing something. 4. Jsu really sat there and said "NCAT could never" which is ironic because we've already done it. The spread out super pinwheel, down to the "usher show" (which we've brought to atl already circa Honda 2009) obviousy jsu did their research on us, you shouldve to lol Yall still with the "doctored footage" ish. In the stands, i think A1 footage of the 5th sounds better than the BGMM clip. It's called equipment people 😂. Jsu did a tiger run on, step 2 drill and concert formation. The most entertaining was their pinwheel, that's it. Hanging over is a musical mistake, and jsu did it in every song they play. Every song😅😅 You can't company about Golden delight being multi talented that was a terrible reach. Just call it what it is, and be honest, yall like jackson more than A&T and were a little sour that they didn't win it. It's ok. Yall dont have to pick a part T because yall love jackson. Nathan Haymer himself said T won the battle because we had the elements of competing in a field show exhibition. Keep the content coming, bruh. I fucks with it. But your naturally biased to a swac style program. ✊🏾✊🏾

Bro let’s be real I seen AT&T do better sounding better 16-20 but i have to give to Jsu cause AT&T had a mix of Swac & Meac styles more heavy to Meac style due their dream Style of play and nun wrong with that but let’s be fr they was skating Jsu mess up a lil drill style but come on AT&T sound bad asf🤦🏽‍♂️🗣️🙃

You are so uneducated about A&T. They always run on and off the field so does Norfolk state. JSU did A&Ts usher show from Honda 2009😂😂😂

@@WattsArrangements yes that’s the word choice. They have came onto the field from the sidelines plenty of times…. YEARS AGO. A&T does not have to do things the way you think they should, they do things the way that they want. As Dowell Taylor stated “Professionals were judges not someone sitting at home behind a computer” Every band was provided with the rubric. One band checked all the boxes and one band didn’t.

No bias at all NCAT show did not move me whatsoever. I am able to look past the glits and glamour of the Dancers/flags and percussion

A&T is soft.I've seen them run from challenges .That they use to answer.They don't have the heart.That they had back in the 80s and 90s.I'm born and raised in NC.I know all about A&T.Tthis right here is not it

I'd be ashamed to admit being born and raised in NC and making such a cowardice statement. In NC we're proud of ALL of our HBCU bands. You got issues with the way Dr Ruff runs his program, go talk to him. Don't be 'soft'. Maybe you didn't make the band or something, idk. But these kids, A&T AND JSU, worked hard and their efforts are to be applauded. Don't hide behind a keyboard and mouse. js

JSU media has way better quality and sound. But either way, JSU WAS OUTSTANDING! NCAT had mistakes from the band and dancers just like JSU… but their media team edited it out.

What mistakes did A&T dancers make? And don't be petty cause The JSettes made some disastrous mistakes. A dancer fell from a simple head flip and didn't get to complete the rest of her dance moves, not enough spacing dancers about to run into each other and a band member. JSettes walking around doing no dancing. May I say more?

I looked at numerous of videos of A&T's field show and nobody edited nothing because there was nothing to edit...You just making up 💩 as you go 😂😂😂. You are completely delusional, the unrealness is unreal. So, if A&T didn't perform any drills then how they committed so many different patterns and formations.

@@ericford6383simple head flip? There’s nothing simple about flipping from a headstand. It’s actually impressive and very dangerous to attempt considering the tempo of the song selection and the slippery field.

@@FinestOfTheSouth she didn't have the momentum to get her feet under her complete that head flip it was a disaster the moment she attempted it. In my cheerleading days I could've done it at ease... and Mercedes Benz Arena is indoor/Dome so a wet surface wasn't an issue.
