After the black lives matters and protesting of 2020, his actor became uncomfortable playing a black cop, which is why they gave him an arc in season 3 where his character exposes his new racist training officer. Sadly, the actor still wished to leave, so it was decided that he would be killed off at the beginning of Season 4.

I miss his character the most of all the folks lost on the show. Too bad there’s no way to bring him back. Great character and great actor. He nailed that role.

At least they decided to be realistic with us, by having him be killed off. Means that the characters don't have plot armor.

He actually was feeling uncomfortable playing a cop after the police protesting in 2020. They even gave his character an arc involving Jackson taking down his new racist TO to make him feel a bit more comfortable with his role, but he was still adamant about leaving the show, so they had to write him off.
