I hate the way peterson gives you 2 options that don't make sense and tries to force you to choose between them. Whenever you point out the problem with the framing of his question he just ignores you and keeps asking or acts like your avoidance of answering the question means he's delivered a real 'gotcha'.

I'm an atheist and I find JLP quite amusing. He's utterly predictable once you know his particular style of Christian belief. Part of what makes him entertaining is that he constantly uses false dichotomies and steers the conversation to his preferred, dogmatic conclusions. In this case he only cares about "exposing" this woman as an agent of Satan, of "exposing" the cause-and-effect that led to the "error" of atheism. He uses some really shitty, sophistic techniques. A person could just as well flip the tables and use the same rude sophism against him as a Christian, a "what made you become Christian?" followed by a critical examination of every shitty thing JLP (or his parents) did to lead him to that "bad" conclusion.

@100th Monkey dude, popular or common knowledge means something that a lot of people knows, it can be something real amd true, like " rocks are hard", it can be something that used to be and know we kow os not like that, like " people used to think the earth was flat" or it can be about something fictional. it is popular knowledge that cinderella had small feet, it is popular knowledge that part of the myth of lucifer is that he was a beautiful angel and that artists and authors of fiction works have represented him as such for centuries. everything people know about is knowledge, no one is saying people believe the myths were real or that they have wisdom, but myths are popular knowledge because a lot of people knows those myths and can tell them. you are confusing knowledge with wisdom. i can know a lot of myths and tales and they are part of things i know, so they are part of my knowledge, another thing would be if they had or gave me any kind of insight or wisdom. knowledge is not wisdom.

He pushes his agenda like its truth and attacks all others that don't side with him...so I'd very much so disagree that he doesn't have anger in his heart. And as for me, I couldn't stand Trump, but I don't like biden either. I find Trump deplorable on such a basic human level that it does overshadow any good that he has done. And that's too bad really. If he wasn't such a dick and liar then he would be much more harolded imo. But he was a jerk, so it overshadows alot. A philosophical discussion requires logic, reason and the ability to adapt old thinking into a new one as fewer questions are left to answer. The religious can not think. They are programmed. Philosophy is not within their capacity. That is why they do not call it bible "Philosophy."

I like your "lazy" reference! I find it hard to mix "Omniscience" with the biblical explanations of God. The religious do too. If they "weren't lazy HA!" they would be changing their definition of God to present Him as less an Omniscient buffoon.

This preacher doesn't even understand what "discrimination" means under the law. Having a preference isn't discrimination. When you treat people as less than equal due to their race, color, religion, national origin, or sexual identity... THAT is "discrimination" under the law. And it's rather interesting looking back seven years later, to see him showing a preference for a presidential candidate, who at this point, has been indicted FOUR TIMES in one year, on 91-felony counts because he engaged in sedition against the United States of America! And the same thing happened in Germany when a population of more than 95% Christians, brought Hitler into power and stood behind him as he sought world domination. They NEVER learn!

1) Murder, rape, and pillage at Jabesh-gilead (Judges 21:10-24 NLT) So they sent twelve thousand warriors to Jabesh-gilead with orders to kill everyone there, including women and children. “This is what you are to do,” they said. “Completely destroy all the males and every woman who is not a virgin.” Among the residents of Jabesh-gilead they found four hundred young virgins who had never slept with a man, and they brought them to the camp at Shiloh in the land of Canaan. The Israelite assembly sent a peace delegation to the little remnant of Benjamin who were living at the rock of Rimmon. Then the men of Benjamin returned to their homes, and the four hundred women of Jabesh-gilead who were spared were given to them as wives. But there were not enough women for all of them. The people felt sorry for Benjamin because the LORD had left this gap in the tribes of Israel. So the Israelite leaders asked, “How can we find wives for the few who remain, since all the women of the tribe of Benjamin are dead? There must be heirs for the survivors so that an entire tribe of Israel will not be lost forever. But we cannot give them our own daughters in marriage because we have sworn with a solemn oath that anyone who does this will fall under God’s curse.” Then they thought of the annual festival of the LORD held in Shiloh, between Lebonah and Bethel, along the east side of the road that goes from Bethel to Shechem. They told the men of Benjamin who still needed wives, “Go and hide in the vineyards. When the women of Shiloh come out for their dances, rush out from the vineyards, and each of you can take one of them home to be your wife! And when their fathers and brothers come to us in protest, we will tell them, ‘Please be understanding. Let them have your daughters, for we didn’t find enough wives for them when we dest60royed Jabesh-gilead. And you are not guilty of breaking the vow since you did not give your daughters in marriage to them.'” So the men of Benjamin did as they were told. They kidnapped the women who took part in the celebration and carried them off to the land of their own inheritance. Then they rebuilt their towns and lived in them. So the assembly of Israel departed by tribes and families, and they returned to their own homes.

+mrgetrealpeople One of the ten commandments is not to murder rape is a form of murder. The Bible does address the issue of rape. As expected, when the Bible mentions the crime of rape, it is depicted as a gross violation of God’s design for the treatment of the human body (Genesis 34). The Bible condemns rape whenever it is mentioned. For example, there is a particular passage in the laws given to the nation of Israel before entering the Promised Land under Joshua’s leadership. This passage (Deuteronomy 22:13-29) spoke directly against forcing a woman into a sexual encounter against her will, or what we know today as rape. This command was meant to protect women and to protect the nation of Israel from committing sinful actions. Deuteronomy 22:25-27 mentioned the punishment the Mosaic Law commanded for a man who raped a woman. The man was to be killed by stoning while the woman was considered innocent. Though the Mosaic Law was for the nation of Israel during the time of Moses, the principle is clear that rape was sinful in the eyes of God and led to the most extreme punishment possible-death for the rapist. There are some difficult passages in the Old Testament, however, in relation to this issue. Critics of the Bible are quick to point toNumbers 31 (and other similar passages) in which the Israelites were allowed to take female captives from nations they conquered. Critics make the accusation that this is an example of the Bible condoning, or even promoting, rape. However, the passage says nothing about raping the captive women. It is wrong to assume that the captive women were to be raped. Again,Deuteronomy 22:25-27 condemns rape, even advocating the death penalty for perpetrators of rape. In the Numbers 31passage the soldiers were commanded to purify themselves and their captives (verse 19). Rape would have violated this command (see Leviticus 15:16-18). The women who were taken captive are never referred to as sexual objects. Did the captive women likely eventually marry amongst the Israelites? Yes. Is there any indication that rape or sex slavery was forced upon the women? Absolutely not. In the New Testament, rape is not mentioned directly, but within the Jewish culture of its writers, rape would have been considered as sexual immorality. As such, both Jesus and His followers (including the apostle Paul) spoke against sexual immorality, even offering it as justifiable grounds for divorce when a person actively committed sexual acts outside of the bond of marriage (Matthew 5:32). This would not, however, apply to the victim of rape, only the one who committed the act. Further, the New Testament is clear that Christians are to obey the laws of their governing authorities (Romans 13). Not only is rape morally wrong; it is also wrong according to the laws of our governing authorities. As such, anyone who would commit this crime should expect dire consequences, including arrest and imprisonment. To the victims of rape, much care and compassion must be offered. God’s Word often speaks about helping those in need and in vulnerable situations. Christians would do well to practice these teachings and model the love and compassion of Christ by assisting victims of rape in any way possible. To those who have committed rape, we must remember two things. First, people are responsible for the sins they commit. Second, however, no one is beyond the grace of God. Even in the lives of those who have committed the vilest of sins, God can extend forgiveness to any who will repent and turn from their evil ways (1 John 1:9). This does not remove the need for punishment according to the law, but it can offer hope, even to those whose sins have made them outcasts in the eyes of others.

@salmonsalmon22 6 жыл бұрын
+LoLStance There is not a way to 100% prove one way or another so it comes across as condescending to say that anyone who believes in God(s) can't be intellectual. If you can read this with an open mind rather than automatically writing it off prior to reading it then you may find that we did come from a creator. As for evidence I point to the creation of the universe. I'm not going to say that "nothing comes from nothing" because we have very little information about the pre-bigbang world and that can't be proven. Something can come from nothing provided that quantum physics and the laws of relativity are already in place. “… Space-time is not a physical thing. The easy answer is that it’s made of mathematics. It is a coordinate system representing the dimensions of space and time. It is a mathematical concept used in physics, mostly to predict gravity mechanics.” A concept and system of mathematics had to already exist for the big bang to happen. So there is a complex system of laws that are not physical but act on the physical, and have to predate the universe in order to have created it from nothing. That is the definition of the biblical God. There is a video on it here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m7eGoJuD1NHTcnU.html

It's as if he's fishing for some weakness in her upbringing to use against her. How creepy. He never once spoke about himself. It was all just constant probing, as if trying figure out her why she failed as a Christian.Maybe his intent wasn't to harm her, maybe understand her, but it's not her fault she's ahealthy human being without God. It also doesn't mean the Devil is using her because she strayed from her faith. God gave us a brain for reason, to use it to think critically and reason with it,and gave us the freewill to behave as we believe is correct but behaving correct is subjective.. unfortunately it's hard to argue against righteousness. FidgetBrothers The way I see it the only reason that she might have been stuttering is because the preacher is obviously intruding on her personal life waiting for her to say something that he can go "Aha I knew that you couldn't be an atheist because of logic! It must be for a reason, did something happen between you and your family?" to. He wouldn't give Jaclyn a chance to answer and so when she did try to answer he was just pursing the question until he could get an answer he could try and expose.

We can make jokes but in all honesty it's scary. This is what religion does to your mind. It messed me up for so long that when I finally came out of it I looked back and thought wow I've been dumb. They gas light you try to twist your words and tell you you have value but your real thoughts and opinions don't. He tried the whole time just sitting there attacking her. She had a rebuttal for everything. Even though he knew it made sense he's thinking about his followers and losing money. Maybe it's just me but that's how I feel watching this. He's trying to make her look bad to boost his own career but she came out flawless and I love that.

@brinabrina @brinabrina First of all I'm with a man lol. Personally I'm not gay but everyone's equal so I'm not even offended. Second of all I don't even beleive Sodom and Gomorrah was about homosexuality. Most passages about homosexuality reference ritual worship at the temple. Also odd that when the men where trying to break into the home first thing he offered up was his daughters. He didn't seem to care at all about them. Theirs just things that don't align. I understand the pressure of having to feel like you gotta save people. When you realize you don't need saving you'll find the weight comes off. I'm not attacking you because beleive me for years I was just like you. Im saying life is short we should spend it making the world better. Theirs these religions that say do this it's not about your feelings. But as a woman when you feel depressed when you feel mistreated when you feel it's not fair you have a right to say no. Even to religion. I still find I have faith but you telling me it ain't about my feelings I'm just less I'm just created as a "help meet. " Nope not ok with that. I choose my happiness. This faith made me so at war with what's natural I was majorly depressed and an alcoholic. You should have seen how I was and what I went through and how I treated others in return. It's not healthy. I pray to the Creator for you to open your eyes. I know it's hard beleive me it's terrifying. I'm not saying lose your faith but I'm saying open your eyes and see it. It's there. I had to learn to respect myself, my heritage, and reality. Faith is real but reality is pure nice and kind. Theirs a better way to blend that faith. For me being a green witch works. There's no set rules except have good intentions. Theirs no prayer to a god. I talk to the Creator and it feels like He hears me more than He or She ever has. I have a good man who loves and supports me. My kids are happier. I'm finally where I want to be. I'm free. I'm not upset at all because I understand the pressure on you to say what you said. But feelings are important. Depression can lead to suicide and that's a dangerous thing you cant come back from. If you beleive in hell imagine sending someone there for how their treated and the pressure they face. All I'm asking is be mindful and act more aware. Do things with love and you'll be surprised how much your opinions will change.
@rainbear1987

@brinabrina Here's the thing I'm not an atheist if I had to do a label be Native American spiritual or green witch. Green witches as I might have mentioned already don't really serve anything others might and that's up to them. Me I have my faith and I have nature. But I have love and peace now that I didn't have before. Also their are people throughout history who have been tortured like witches. Actually people who likely whernt even witches because people where afraid of being accused as witches them selves so they blamed others. Native Americans largely diminished because of religion. Years of oppression to women due to religion. For example telling a woman she can't have medication during labor because God wants her to suffer as part of the curse. Denying access to birth control because of religion. I'm sure all religions have faced some sort of non acceptance. The issue I have is even when I was religious I didn't agree with for example taking away gay marriage. I remember I was always told was wrong. But seeing it from a mature perspective now how can I as a straight woman tell someone else they can't be gay? It's ok for Christians to want religious freedom but so many times they themselves are the ones taking it from others. There are some great Christian people out there and some really awful ones. But the religion itself I can't stand behind. Telling my daughter she can't one day be the president of the United States because she's female I can't stand behind. We as people have to open our eyes to the bad and see it and fix it. I like what Katlyne Jenner said. She said, "if you wanna call me names and doubt my intentions truth is I can take it. But for the millions of trans kids out there they shouldn't have to take it." That's the truth. Truth is more powerful than any weapon. I respect that your trying the best you can to come across as kind I really do. All I'm asking is look. Look at what's going on and not just through a Christian accepted lens. I mean really look. You deserve to be happy. So does everyone else.

@brinabrina I would ask you a question and I know it may be difficult for you to really think about it and give me an honest answer but I would ask you to try please here goes. Did jesus if he existed really make a big sacrifice , i mean knowing in advance that in a few days he would be in heaven forever. In comparison with let say. An atheist who gives his life to save the child of a stranger as many have That's everything to him , the one and only life he knows for certain that he has. All for no reward, a totally selfless act. No eternal heaven for him , it was just the RIGHT thing to do. Now I know which was the bigger sacrifice in my eyes, which one showed real unconditional love and morality. And yet even though a rapist , murder or child killer would still have hope of redemption if he only repents he can be saved . There would be no hope for the athiest with your god, because disbelief is the one unforgivable sin. He would be sent to hell forever, regardless of how he lived his life. What do you think ? Is this morality? Who would be the real hero of this story?

@gage tomerlin Its fine to disagree. Beauty is subjective and intelligence is relative. In my small town, its a rare combo. Heres a statement ill catch shit for: super religious people, like this preacher, are freakin idiots. The fact they believe their bullshit religion to be true and real, is enough evidence they don't think too logically. Therefore, stupid. Beautiful women are usually models or have some type if job that doesn't require much thinking. So to see this beautiful woman using her head when using her looks to make a living would be easy, it makes her that much more beautiful.

Just shut up. It's not necessary for you to say its hard to find. Keep it to yourself. You might as well be insulting her and other women so just shut up.

I fail to see what was "arrogant, bias [sic], hypocritical, [and] egotistical" about Jaclyn's argumentation. However, you literally just described yourself. Congrats.

But you have to admit that anal sex between two men is disgusting. I think conservatives are sometimes the people who say what everybody secretly knows is true, but that isn't necessarily polite to say.

For an atheist, Jaclyn has the patience of a Saint. She has all of my respect for not just allowing this guy to interrupt her or give him an opportunity to twist her words. She handled this with eloquence and poise. It seems all he was really trying to do was provoke a reaction from her and he'd get frustrated when he couldn't steer her toward the answers he wanted her to give him. It's like he WANTED her to act problematic because he kept trying to poke her with sharp sticks. Which is a manipulative and cowardly tactic... Jaclyn being as smart as she is probably saw through that and calmly gave her honest answers without giving him what he wanted. I love her. Also, this is a guy who had a child out of wedlock and has been engaged twice but never married. So he doesn't deserve to judge anyone

He sounds exactly like my grandfather who is a preacher and cult leader.... listening to this dude makes me feel sick to my stomach with all the manipulation, peer pressure, twisting of words, completely ignoring her answers, continuing to repeat the same problematic questions and comments despite her saying why they're problematic and to please stop, and generally being disrespectful to her while she calmly explains her beliefs and point of view to him. He went in not trying to learn anything from her, just to convert and/or attack her 🤮
