As a visual artist, and as Jaco's friend between 1959 and 1965 I can tell you that he immersed himself in EVERYTHING he did, whether it was drawing, studying, playing sports, or his beloved music. I reject thinking of him as a limited, troubled person. He was often misunderstood, and I imagine over time that was very frustrating to experience. And even in moments when life wasn't the easiest for him, releasing himself into music would be the BEST way to rediscover the joy within him!
