Please explain how it is "underrated" when it was picked up for a second season? I just think people like to use the term "underrated" because it makes them seem knowledgeable.

@@kev7161 Honestly, I think it's because it was completely ignored during awards season which it absolutely shouldn't have been, and it's not a show that's widely talked about. It has a very devoted audience who love it and reviews praise it constantly. Still, it doesn't get the type of coverage of say something like the Walking Dead, Ted Lasso, Stranger Things or the Last of Us, Killing Eve, etc...(I'm naming shows that I haven't seen a single episode of but know a bunch about because they were/are so generally hyped up and talked about) I think people do use underrated a lot when it's not accurate. In this case I think it's correct. The quality of the show is not commiserate with the attention it gets. Renewal doesn't mean all that, trash shows get renewed all the time if they're bringing in ratings.

But Louis in the show isn't an enslaved person. His grandfather, and then his father, ran a plantation and had slaves that worked their land. The writing team did so much research into life during that time and it really enriches the story to bring things forward in time a bit. Love this show.

I think they should've stuck to the books instead of turning him into a needy black pimp. I get they want to be modern/inclusive and creative, but too many changes spoils the stories.@@psychedelicpegasus7587

I agree! But instead of being a slave he could've been what his G-Grandfather was, which was a free man of colour who had slaves. Then they could've even kept it in the same time frame as the book. But I still adore what they did with the show. I love it so much!

But in the time period of the book did black people own slaves? I thought it was later towards time period of slavery getting outlawed is when black people owned slaves

​@@shan0997they changed because they don't discuss the fact that the main character is related to slavery,they don't want to see anything related to slavery in the show, because according to them is not what the public wants.

He didn't say he invented it as in "nobody has done this before ever", but he did "invent" it for the SHOW. They weren't supposed to hiss in the tv adaptation, but now they do because of him.
