As a programmer, I like that he's basically a 100% "open source" musician. Whatever he accomplishes, he tries to explain how he got there to the tiniest detail, because the journey is just as fascinating as the result. To the point where he'll make multi-hour streams of him producing music. Whatever he "discovers", he wants everyone else to be able to do it too.

@@l3gendbaap963 Well he's been influenced and inspired by greats that can do what he does, but in their own way. Not saying what you said isn't a factor. But I think it's less that he's sure nobody can recreate his style (because he even does community musician challenges, which is interesting), but more that he does so much that he likes to share; music is his life's passion, and a passion mastered in the soul like this is always begging to be shared !

To see 2 musical legends chill on the couch and get all giggly by what a kid is doing is so unreal hahaha. But then to see Jacob be cool with it all, not let it get to his head and just keep doing whatever feels right... this guy is on a mission to enlighten us musically

So happy to find such a well made documentary about Jacob Collier, and hear from him, his family and his friends. Suzie Collier is an amazing person, and a wonderful mother, who recognized her child's talent and nurtured it without imposing on it. Her light shines brightly in her son. Suggesting to Quincy Jones that they just be friends before entering into a professional relationship showed a striking awareness of his own inexperience, without feeling inadequate or daunted. It's like he is the sorcerer to his own apprentice. He knows where he wants to go, and what to do to get there. For a kid who has been told he is a genius by so many people of renown, it's amazing that he's so grounded and unaffected. He has heard a whole new world of music, and he wants his audience to come with him, and hear it for themselves. There is a purity and innocence to him, that I hope will endure fame, for it can be a terrible contaminant. He embodies a spirit of generosity and delight, and he must always keep that room where he goes to nourish and refresh himself.

I just now realised that jacob was mixing his first album called "in my room" in the studio of hans zimmer, "zimmer" as a german word meaning "room".

Thanks so much for this documentary. I am a 71 year old music lover , and do not know the basics of music and the notes. This documentary made me cry and deeply moved. We are all very fortunate to be living to hear musical geniuses like Jacob Collier. Every country in various continents have musical geniuses and we are blessed to hear and enjoy their creations. I feel similar in that regard, @isaaccardin2523. In fact, the first time I saw him in a similar production, I fell apart understanding that this is what I lacked and have been missing forever. True, authentic heart nourishment as a gift handed down and imbued.

A musician touched by the hands of the creator of the Universe. The UK has some incredible, unique talent at the moment. With Jacob and Ren for a start it puts the UK among the global musical leaders. You know how incredible his mother is when Jacob wants her playing with him on the film score and the proms. I know enormous success brings equally enormous wealth but i hope its a long time before he stops climbing through the back window of the family home in London!

I saw Jacob live last night for the first time. I'm still trying to process what I experienced. If you havent already been to a Jacob Collier show, just do it. His talent is almost supernatural. He really is without peer in music. In 35 years of watching live music of all kinds, I haven't seen anyone even come close to what he treated us to last night. I've heard quite a few people mention Mozart, Bach and Beethoven in respect of Jacob's talent. I'm quite sure each one of them would have stood in awe and applauded his unique abilities.

@@JohnnyF71 I said at the time that I wasn't even convinced he's human!! 🤣🤣 I felt like I was in the presence of a being of higher consciousness. Even the fact that he took the time to thank, so authentically, his entire crew. I've never seen any other artist do that in the way he did. We were lucky enough to be right at the front too so I had eye contact a few times and felt like I was looking into the eyes of a very special being! ❤️ Until you've experienced it you can't quite explain it can you? That was definitely my first of many though! 😍

Since those days of the first viral arrangements he made long time ago, I remember being in music school and showing his videos to everyone. The general reaction was "it's a little bit too much for me", or "that can't be real" but since that first moment I knew people had that exact same reaction in history when geniuses like Mozart or Bach were contemporary. I was filled with joy and expectation knowing him was just 18 yo or so, and what kind of masterpieces were upcoming from his creative mind. Sure enough he hasn't let down and I am certain about his songs and arrangements being studied and analyzed in music schools around the world for the next generations of trained musicians.

@@MadeByIsmael They talk about him being a single mom, but if his dad i alive then he would be paying child support so the implied 'struggle' of being single parent family was misleading. Plus he learnt violin coz f the Mom, but he learnt piano coz of teh Dad so we shouldve heard that in documentary. Plus how did he land role at 10 in that film ? it seems strange the way they avoided some areas to build a narrative about Jacob

I feel we were being given a constructed version of his life where he removes his dad and also how he learnt piano(from his dad) and his 2yrs at Royal Academy(College) , so that it seems like he was self taught genius when in reality he had dad piano player and was taught from very young age. He had been playing piano for 18yrs when he did his first album

@@CourtWatchAu not once did they make it seem like they were struggling financially. Not once. Being a single mother of three can have it's challenges besides financial challenges. Even then, that was such a small part of the documentary, not like it was a major struggle in Jacobs life, but it was something that had to be addressed. You don't know for certain how Jacobs relationship was with his dad or if he taught him piano. So the fact that you, a random stranger, seems to disagree with the documentary which had Jacob and his family as a direct source is funny ... you have to admit that

So - and this is kinda weird - I discovered Jacob about 5 years ago and also discovered that he lived only 2 streets away from me! Intrigued, I did some hunting and fell upon Hideaway. As a life long music obsessive, I was TOTALLY floored, and my musical world had been upended. But I wasn't sure about whether it was just me, or was there actually something pretty fundamental being changed in the world of music. At that point, my 3 young kids were in the next room, all having a MASSIVE argument, with screaming, tempers and the like. I just couldn't calm them down. So I decided to play them Hideaway. No introduction, I just played it to this group of young kids (4, 8 and 9 years old). THEY ALL FROZE AND LISTENED!! It was an amazing happening (as well as marking the end of the argument!!). This kid is really something else. I hope he soon settles down and starts engaging in some more meaningful music, as I get the feeling that he is still in the "kid in the toy store" phase of his development.

I am blown away by Jacob and his talents. Here I am struggling to accomplish one simple task, lol, and Jacob has mastered so many instruments and styles with such ease and fluidity. He is a true inspiration for me. I am a fan of his for life and can't wait to see what he does next. I haven't even started recording yet. I am still in the learning phase and have a long way to go.

When you look at him: being asked by Herbie and Quincy to do his thing, the Metropol and Hans Zimmer and just out of the blue writing for an Orchestra and succeeding: this is truly the Bach, the Mozart of our time... but seemingly with any arrogance, with any agenda other then, explore, have fun and be endlessly creative. and in this regard: I hope he'll never confirm to anything tying him down to some genre or contract or what ever... just this pure, nice, humble, grateful and creative soul.

Really grateful for the documentary. I'm thinking to myself, how harmonizing things in our lives makes things so beautiful. I would never have seen the harmony in the conjecture of life, if this guy didn't release his music. This overwhelming ability to harmonize songs is eternal. I would say an expression of divinity. An amazing story. Very well told here. Great job on the clips. Really well done. Such beautiful harmonies, undiscovered until now. Done with such ease. Replication not likely soon. Bach came from eight generations of musicians. Jacob from at least three. There is a lesson here. Maybe some insight into the cultivation of human potential. Ya' think?

I just noticed something... I saw Take 6, Quincy Jones, Hans Zimmer, Herbie Hancock... all of them recognizing Jacob's talent with a genuine enthusiasm. But those two pop artists... The guy just wanted to say "he sent to me, I sent back to him, it was Grammy nominated", and the girls says that every musician has respect for other musicians, no matter what they wear... Not a word about his enormous proficiency on instruments, on his more-than-absolute pitch, his whole new harmonies in music...
