He isn't just our life's mozart, he's well and truly up there with the all time greats. Possibly the greatest. He's only 23, it's scary to imagine what this man may achieve. Already achieved what most musicians could only dream of.

This is so true.. I drive to philly several months ago to see if this wizard was the real deal or was just a lot of fluff behind a bunch of electronics.. as we all now know he IS the real deal.. he not only does it all .. he does it on a level that is mind blowing even to professionals like myself with a BA degree in Music Composition. Those patchwork trousers of his again! I'm not sure I've ever encountered an artist who is so utterly individualistic in expression as Jacob. His knowledge of harmony is staggeringly advanced for one so young, and his vocal range is pretty amazing even when he's stripped of his usual vocoders!

downeybill Comfort? His live performances tend to involve a great deal of movement and physical exertion. Smart clothes might inhibit movement and cause him to get uncomfortably hot. If you watch his home-produced videos, he often wears fairly smart shirts, but he's not running all over a stage for an hour or more then...

Collier is amazing on every level. He's mastered technology, but even more important, he's mastered musicianship and has tapped into it to unveil his inspired artistry. He has a vast amount of knowledge of harmony and melody, can play multiple instruments very well, and can takes inspiration from multiple genres of music. The world needs more like him, especially as so many narrow the input they receive from various sources.

there are so many young male singers whose falsetto get irritate me indescribably ...but Jacob's falsetto especially along with his stunning LOW... it is simply marvelous
@modernlacuna
@modernlacuna 8 жыл бұрын
I think it might have to do with the quality of the notes. Jacob's falsetto is pretty much perfect without any mechanical alteration - and while many singers sing falsetto to show that they can, thus showing off often beyond what would be best for the piece, Jacob seems to be singing falsetto because it suits the music he's made.

Fuck, I love stripped-down Jacob Collier. I love his music, but sometimes it's so technically perfect that it straddles the line between talent and gimmick. Here, you can actually hear a couple subpar notes and imperfections and for me it makes it 10× better than when every detail is perfectly engineered. I listen to this like twice a day.

Lots of people criticize the guys musical choices, including myself in a lot of cases. Some of it I don’t get at all. But the one thing you have to give him at the very least is that he isn’t prideful or boastful; he is happy to say that every musician makes choices that not everyone will like. And it doesn’t seem to be in the sense of justifying, ex post facto, any music that isn’t good. It’s a pre-emptive understanding that choices are made in a vast landscape that not everyone will understand at any given time. And I’ve gone through the experience many times where I didn’t like something at first. And then at some point for whatever reason, I came to really like it a lot. Many of the greats were never appreciated in their time, but this also doesn’t mean that they kid should be degraded by the degree to which he isn’t being appreciated. All of these ways by which people attempt to guide their thinking about this are like a sort of math in a non-mathematical setting.
