@@croissantsforthought8502 You could say theres a lot of quartel chords happening until you get some form of key recognition with thr major voicings and dominant voicing. I cant help but feel like it bends between a Major Pentatonic scale, Mixolydian, and even Lydian at times. Other than that you could look at it as one continuous giant scale chord like someone already pointed out but. Its more arped than being sung at once at the same time and some of the accapella comes and goes if u look at the faces coming in going its apparent. It could be a simple quartel chord and theres just melody that arps over it to influence the sounds of the scales or scale hes envoking.

This pyramid harmony stuff is mind boggling. It can be hard enough creating two or three harmonies for most songs. The fact that you can find so many levels of harmony within the harmony you already created just to add some more is master class. I feel like I should be paying just to listen to it.

I think there are nine or ten different harmony parts on this song. He must an incredible imagination. It also uses quartertones, and changes key several times. I think the tuning also changes at some points, so that it starts out at concert pitch (A = 220 Hz) and then gradually (or suddenly) changes to a different tuning. Which is a fascinating new idea. It's good that we have people who are pushing back the boundaries, and taking new approaches, but it still relates back to a classical, well-known song.

i’ve only kind of just realized this but if you have perfect pitch, technically you can play any instrument. Guitar, piano, violin; doesn’t matter; anything with strings, keys, holes, or literally just anything is fair game and it all comes down to mathematics and music theory.

@@shawn980 yeah but actually no You're forgetting about the technical side of things Sure you can make music with WHATEVER you want, but first you need to master all the "movements", techniques and muscle Memory of the instrument I know music some music theory and have relative pitch ( i can think about the pitch in my head, if that makes sense. It's not proper "perfect pitch", it's more of a "sing the note in you're head and give it a name" type of thing ), but if you gave me a guitar, which i can't play, i wouldn't be able to do anything, simply because i lack the skill to USE the instrument and play what I "hear" in my mind

@shawn980 2 жыл бұрын
@@Raidenofficial i made a rebuttle to this, it was a few paragraphs long, and it all got deleted. Let me summarize. You can play any chord or any note on any instrument if you have perfect pitch and understand the composition of chords. However, without the muscle memory or technique, using perfect pitch and music theoty alone to play any instrument would be wildly inefficient. However, it would assist in learning to play any instrument.

This is not my favourite a capella arrangement of his (prefer the more tasteful In the Bleak Midwinter) but I cannot deny the sheer magnitude of this arrangement - it is like a sonic cathedral in its proportions. It's so large, so detailed, so dense and so innovative in its harmony and delivery that my only reaction is that of complete awe. Bravo, Jacob. This is certainly a labour of love and you deserve every accolade for it.

Last summer I took mushrooms for the first time and did way too many (as one apparently does) and, overwhelmed, retreated to my dark, quiet bedroom in the cabin my family was staying in for vacation. I wanted to calm myself with some music but everything in my own library suddenly somehow seemed way too commercial and phony - except for this guy. Listening to this song, I remember being flooded with this profound sense of wonder and gratitude that music even exists at all. Surely it is a happy accident that this strange and incredible power was given to us. I have been on the verge of giving up so many times in my life and yet music was the thing that kept me holding on. How is it even possible? What is this thing with sound and harmony? How can it be so articulate? So complicated? So communicative? Perhaps I'll never know but FUCK ME am I glad I can hear it

My jaw has been dropped for the last 3 minutes - I just listened for the first time and the level of complexity was too much to follow. As a musician I'm always critically listening, trying to understand concepts, where it's going overall. But this.. this was too much. Eventually your brain gives up trying and the harmony and music becomes transparent (which I haven't been able to do for a very long time). I was smiling like my 5-year-old self discovering cotton candy for the first time again. What an amazing experience, goosebumps all over! Thank you!

Some of my favorite details in this video: 4:08 Is that a hideaway reference in the background? Might be :) 4:40 Cheeky quarter-tone modulation 4:44 Jacob #267 passing the guitar to Jacob #268 5:01 Again, but this time it's Jacob #314 and Jacob #316 5:45 A tritone jump between chords? What does the catholic church have to say about that? 5:55 My favorite chord progression in the song. It's just a I-III-VI, which is not that uncommon, but the extended chords make it the best thing ever. 6:33 HOW DO YOU EVEN DIVIDE A MINOR 3RD IN 5 PARTS WHAT 7:37 There are 190 Jacobs on screen, and no, I'm not counting them again 7:55 Have you ever heard a sliding modulation? No? Then sing along with the highest voice and skip ahead 15 seconds 7:58 Even aliens aren't perfect, the row of Jacobs on the right is slightly misaligned 8:22 This isn't even legally a chord
