Members believe that he should be PM because he is a genuinely honnest, decent individual who has very British values. He is a deep thinker, listens, formulates his view, and conveys a very clear cogent argument without forcing his personally held views onto others. The way that he handles difficult questions Harman, Osbourne was brilliant ... no hesitation at all. I have worked with people like Jacob, recognise his talents and would be proud to be represented by him as our PM.

I'm an atheist of the Chris Hitchens, Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris persuasion. But I understand stuff isn't black & white. Christopher Hitchens brother Peter is well worth listening to, admittedly an advocate of the Church of England - which is the least pious of all religions. Also Canadian professor Jordan Peterson has some interesting thoughts on the whole reason why religion has been involved in the evolution of us all, and why Christianity is still particularly important to us in the west.

@BobSmith-vo9hv6 жыл бұрын
I'm an atheist and I oppose abortion. Yep, under any circumstances. Attacking his position on religious grounds is, in this instance, pure deflection. It allows pro-choicers to get a KO on the grounds that he's a Catholic and a Tory, without having to engage in and try to win the debate on whether or not a zygote/foetus/embryo/baby is alive or not - a debate which isn't swayed either way according to whether or not a participant in the debate is Catholic or Conservative. Those factors are irrelevant; neither has any purchase on the central question, is it a life or not? Even JHR (who I admire) in this interview seems more interested in his faith than in the merits or otherwise of a pro-life argument.

How refreshing is it to have a politician who says what he believes instead of what they believe you want to hear even though they have no intention of living up to and then doing the opposite when the chips are down. I don't agree with everything Jacob says but I respect him for having and expressing an honest opinion and for standing up for free speech. I do enjoy his unflappable demeanour.... This is the kind of politician I would vote for.
@doctorfunkshock6 жыл бұрын
Interesting - even though Conservative ideology and practice behaves as an antithesis to anything Christian. He just cherry picks what he will support. If he was a true Christian, he wouldn't be a Tory.
@GazBower6 жыл бұрын
Any political ideology is not "True Christian" whatever that means as even the Christians cannot agree on what it means.... to Catholics it means something different to the Evangelicals...etc... etc..etc. Still I would still prefer someone who answers a straight question instead of someone who skirts around the issue because they don't want to admit what they believe just to get votes.... I believe the bible calls them hypocrites...
@doctorfunkshock6 жыл бұрын
All Christian values of all denominations do however, not really square with Conservative ideology - otherwise they wouldn't be killing all the disabled people with such verve as they do. Most people on here seem to value the WORDS he says, over his DEEDS. He is an extremely shallow, conniving, ruthless toff, with no scruples, despite his fine Catholic words. Some people are suckers for the landed. Slaves.

And most Christians don't live these values they profess to follow... As for killing disabled people.. Indeed, me too. He was understandably weak when he came to his religious beliefs, but to be frank he is somewhat hobbled by the beliefs and justifications. They were after all the best apologetics the churches have been able to conjure up over the last 2000 years. The man however on other subjects is not hampered in the same way, and almost invariably performs splendidly. He is rarely not on point, he absolutely knows his stuff, and maybe more important, he is an honest, decent and very reasonable bloke. He really should I believe at least be on the "team". I myself would vote for Rees Mogg. And I have never voted Tory.

Culpepper Defenestrator I do agree he should never hold office, yet I do not like the idea that a man that seems genuine should be restricted from office.. My position is at them moment I will not vote for him if ever the chance arises.. he should remain in the position he holds and should refrain from issues that are based on his religious beliefs, a strong moral backbencher should not be wasted yet as a great many find his beliefs restrictive.. I think I would actively campaign against him, if he chooses to pursue a PM position.. But he does seem a good man and should be admired for his faith,courage and principles.. many that hold office today hide there personal beliefs in an attempt to hold higher office..

I do, however, respect Jacob for NOT being afraid to talk about his faith. And (as he says) in a free society, WHY SHOULD HE BE? Look at the mess Tim Farron got in to. Jacob is fully able to keep his views and that of Parliament and the country's laws, separate. As Jacob rightly pointed out, it is not for him to judge other people and their lifestyles.

The miscarriage answer is; for there to be free will the existance of evil must be allowed, this is evil in all things (not just choices) but evil in the very fabric of reality to bring sorrow and negative effects. This is what forces there to be catastrophes and bad luck and miscarriages, all in order to allow humanity to choose. Describing it as evil may even be wrong, chaos could be the better view point, chaos to cause forks in the road - choices and terrible things you would not wish for.
@ISCREAM.STORE16 жыл бұрын
Miscarriages happen, they are extremely distressing for the would be mother and everyone involved, i can think of nothing sadder than the loss of an innocent babies life. But...... there are so many reasons why they happen, a pregnancy is a state of vulnerability, i know someone who lost one because of a flight on an aeroplane, she said that the radiation was bad that day or something, who knows maybe an event could of taken place during the 1st pregnancy which caused a miscarriage and then damage to make it difficult to be successful in subsequent pregnancies. we just dont know, but blaming god is a cop out surely. we have to be smarter than blaming someone else for our own misfortune. Either way i cannot even begin to imagine losing a child let alone 4, poor woman.

I don't even understand why the woman brought it up. As soon as she said "Why would God let that happen" you can tell she doesn't know anything about Christian theology like most atheists. I notice atheists often use this argument but don't seem to do the same with other religions. "How could YOUR so called sun god allow such evil things to happen??" You won't hear that from an atheist. It's the same left wing bias against all things western and decent.
@YoureRatherDumb6 жыл бұрын
There is also the possibility, which frankly I don't understand why nobody ever considers, that these miscarried babies will end up in heaven anyway. Our miserable, brief experience here on earth is so insignificant compared to eternity in heaven, I find the problem of evil just trivial. Seriously, if you accept the concepts of heaven and hell, literally the worst death you could imagine becomes trivial. It is totally irrational to worry about it. Maybe I grew up around too many video games and books but it seems to me a nice life here on earth is +50. A terrible death here on earth is -100. Heaven is +1000000000. Hell is -1000000000. Seriously, who cares about how your life goes here?

A real and respectable man. I would like to have him as an MP. I don't agree with everything he says but I believe he is a man of his word and that is rare.

My favourite politician - smooth talking, realistic and very much to the point.

Have to love that man! I'm atheist, for gay marriages and for abortion. He's one of the few that I can accept in his views, because he doesn't want to enforce those of his on me. He only asks that I agree that he may have his convictions and I will gladly grant (as much or as little as I have a say therein) him to have and express his beliefs. That is true democracy, contrary to most other buggers in Whitehall, or in Bruxelles, that is. I can only hope that the Brits can actually perceive and appreciate his values, honestly, humblety and extraordinary clear intellect.

I think Jacob Rees Mogg is a fascinating father to his six children and a wonderful husband to his wife Helena. I think he is loved very dearly by his family and Nanny.

He is right about the term "ordinary people". I looked up the definition of ordinary and I certainly do not come under that stereotype.

Well he would get my vote for being honest and “honourable”. Why on earth are so many of our politicians “third rate”

Stick to your guns Jacob. You have a lot of fans out here. It's so refreshing that someone publicly stands for their freedom of speech in the face of this extremism perpetrated by the left.

People want him to lead because he has a positive vision, he's incredibly principled and decent in how he behaves, without ever appearing weak.

British people respect honesty and straight taking and Mogg is no Mong when it comes to that, he is a posh bastard, but I feel he has the charisma to win the vote of all classes 😉
