Jag of Troy

An intensively involved game that has elements of action, adventure and simulation while you command the USS Enterprise.
The secret Chodak mission was completed.

I feel like the SNES version had a better soundtrack and graphic I’ll polish. But the Genesis version add more levels that you didn’t get to experience otherwise. But they really both have their strong points.

I remember saving up to buy a used copy of this game after my sister and I got a Sega Genesis for Christmas. It was the first game other than Sonic 2 that came with the console I had for a long time. I spent days and says trying to get passed the mine level and never could for a long time until one day at the grocery store I noticed a video game magazine on the shelf that had this game on the cover and I had to beg my mom to buy it for me that day but it had helpful hints and tips to get through the mine mission but I never did finish the whole game until about 15 years ago with a Genesis emulator on my PC where I could save more often and had an online walkthrough to help.

This game can be a nightmare IF you dont get the space combat down as well as the diplomacy. For the combat - Spread your resources across all systems with a bias to the top three, and LEAVE it that way. Only redivert said resources if you take heavy damage. Once in battle GET AND STAY MOVING. Ent-D can go fast in a straight line and pivot on the spot relatively well, but maneuvers like a bloody aircraft carrier - keep up your speed and wobble left to right. Hold the phaser fire button down at all times. Use your torpedoes sparingly, you can to go to a starbase to reload them but it can be a PITA to find the three bases. Basically, save em for when you get a clear clean shot and then spam em. On your first visit to the mine, lead with LaForge. He can see the minerals you will need later - 12 of each IIRC. You 'can' use Troi by her lonesome to not get mauled by the worms, BUT she cant see crap. Take your time, keep your phaser handy, go slow, avoid the wood floors as the can have holes in em,and go level by level. The only real catch is the forth, as the top and bottom levels are divided north from south, IIRC. Using LaForge will save a second trip to this dive. xD All in all, probably the BEST overall console installation of a Trek game bar none.
@hunam1464
@hunam1464 2 жыл бұрын
My strategy for combat was simple: charge in, throw a barrage of photon torpedoes to drop their shields, then sit in phaser range and spam phasers until dead. Clearly, the Picard Maneuver is based on this concept.

Excellent game play ideas. Crew/Ship management, adventure, space combat, dialogue (and a compelling story), high fidelity to the source material, excellent sound effects and graphics... It needs fine tuning; for instance, the frequency of space combat is way too high, and the controls are poor. But overall, I feel that with nowadays' technology, there is the potential to make a fantastic game. Imagine if we kept most of the concepts here, and had action sequences like the Shadowrun games as well as a redone, possibly turn-based space combat: that'd be a game I'd love to play.

This was cool to see. This game was the first I ever played on console back then when I first got a SG. it is like a boarder line of free play since you can travel where ever, and yet a main story line to fallow. I had replayed it I think 5 times. Explored the heck out of it, trying different ways to play it. For me it was just fun. Would be nice to play it again on the PC, but I can't find a way. And it is hard to get the system for only one game besides the cartridge. But watching this was cool. Thing that stuck with me the most? The midi play for the miner rescue. That midi music really sinks in, lol!

I personally thought there were some advantages with each version like how you can have Doctor Crusher heal in the SNES version, and having better music; but the Genesis version was always superior in the fact that you have to be diplomatic most of the time making it slightly easier. The mines also had the advantage in the SNES version where you can collect less ore than the genesis, but had the problem with turning on the vent every level. Never was a fan of those mines as it felt like a chore. Best thing was to always get the miners and ore on Genesis on the first visit.

Captain's log stardate 35428.2: By my estimate, we've destroyed over 1/3 of the combined Romulan fleet. Despite the 30th incursion into the neutral zone by their vessels today, neither the Romulan Senate or the Federation Council considers this to be a war. I do admit that many of these altercations could have been solved diplomatically, but I have been in a foul mood ever since the computer file for Earl Grey tea was corrupted. Generally, a Galaxy class cruiser like the Enterprise would be hard pressed to defeat even one Romulan Warbird. Taking on two would be nearly suicidal. Fortunately, acting Ensign Crusher has recently perfected his technique of making the Enterprise "drift" at impulse speeds. The Romulans seemingly have no counter for this behavior. I would put Mr. Crusher in for a commendation, but I believe I'll just refrain from telling him to shut up today. The alarm klaxon is sounding again, time to destroy another Warbird.

I first played this game back in the mid 90s. I got through the derelict ship mission OK but I truly got stuck on the mining moon mission. And I could never defeat the Romulan Warbird in ship combat, but I was able to beat the Romulan scoutships. And for a while I was not aware there were choices in the dialogue sections and what you said would affect whether you'd get into a ship battle or not. It turns out that I'm not very good at games like this, I prefer ones that are more straightforward and not as complicated. But the graphics and music were cool, and I liked playing as the TNG characters. I especially loved looking up Trek info in the Enterprise-D computer!

On the show, the Romulans were a long time adversary to the Federation. They had advanced technology and powerful starships and could be hostile and treacherous, but they could also be diplomatic and honorable. They could be reasoned with, if you had the right person talk to them. That's why they're my all time favorite alien race in all of Trek!

@pyriph
@pyriph 4 жыл бұрын
The Sega version is way more interactive. In the SNES version most dialogue is one-way, where (for example) Dr T'Laris will simply give you a big chunk of info once you rescue her and that is that. You also have more flexibility in combat on the Sega version, unlimited phaser energy on away missions, and the art is better as well.
@pyriph
@pyriph 5 ай бұрын
The Sega version is much better (I've played both). You can choose your dialogue responses on the Sega version (the blue text in the conversations: can left-right to choose alternate responses with different outcomes (at least with hostile ship encounters). It allows you to ask specific questions of the admirals, too. Phasers are unlimited on away missions, unlike SNES version. The bridge and characters look much better on Sega version (the SNES version has Worf and one of the starbase admirals mirrored/backwards for some reason). The red alert klaxons sound wrong in the SNES version but the combat music is nice. One minor thing I appreciated is the computer/library files on the Sega version: many entries have images of the object/subject matter being discussed vs just the Federation logo like on SNES version. Overall the two versions are very similar otherwise...just the Sega version feels a little more interactive and complete.
