This worked on my Jaguar 1998 Vanden Plas. I couldn’t believe it. Bought a fob from eBay after losing mine on a trail, and now I have a working key fob again! You rock! Love your thorough, clear explanations

I used this method and had several problems. After several attempts (6) I was successful!! Pulling the high beam the added times would not start the program mode. Trying several times at varying speed to pull the lever was not successful until I went very fast. Then, THE FIRST CHIRP WAS ANYWHERE FROM 3 TO 5 PULLS. I was successful pressing my new remote after the first chirp and again 3 more times, then pressing the original remote (not in the ignition) once. After 5 chirps, I turned the key off and removed it. Both remotes now worked!! Be persistent. I suspect my car was cantankerous!! Thanks Robert.

Hi Rob, thanks for the very informative lesson. I have an XJ8 like this one. the original fob just stopped working. I got another 3 from the jaguar graveyard and thanks to your advice, I finally got one to work. Here is a tip to pass on. On these older cars, it's worth checking the keyhole to make sure the little gate in there is fully closed. (a little WD40 helps) If it's not fully closed, the car will not enter into program mode. Now I need to adjust the hand brake shoes, have you a video. Thanks. Peter,

This worked on my 2004 XJ8. The existing key fob lost its programming when the fob battery died. Adding a new fob battery did not help... so reprogramming was the only option. Thanks so much for doing this video!

Followed your directions to the letter and...no good! Tried again, and again and again...nothing.. Then, I thought, "Gee, maybe I put the battery into the key FOB transmitter upside down?" "Nah, No way, I could make a dumb mistake like that..." So, here is my apology. Sorry, I was wrong in doubting your video instructions. They worked perfectly with the battery in correctly. You have saved a lot of folks money by not having to go to the dealer to program their remotes. Thanks

Robert, if you were around here I'd take you ought to a nice lunch with all the money you saved me. Bought a mint 2004 XJ VDP with 2 nice remotes. They started flaking even with new batteries and one quit working. Upon opening them up, the switches were gummed up with finger oil and I had to disassemble and electronic wash the circuit board in Marine Contact cleaner, alcohol, and Caig DeOxit D5. Finally the switches worked loose after all the green slime came ouf of them. Washed them some more and air dried all the cleaner. Buttons were now freed-up moving nicely in and out. Washed the buttons rubber sheet and cases in the sink with water and soad and an old toothbrush. All parts air dried and reassebled with new batteries. With all buttons working crisp and nice, I thought good to go, but still one remote did not work and the other flaked 1/2 the time. Then found your video and tried your sequence, but my car (04) acted a bit different (there is no red LED light by the shifter), It took about 6-7 high beam flashes after key was turned to "1", I think the horn sounded instead of a chirp, and then I did one remote and then the other and turned the key to "0". So there was no need to go through 5 key pressings to exit. Immediately both keys work perfect, all buttons do what they are supposed to do. Unlike the video key, I have the integrated key switchblade stype shape D key remotes. Thanks again! Save a trip to the dealership and who knows how much money. Up for a six-pack?

Robert I remember you were showing a Jaquar rear light proble. I had similar problem my dashboard read check rear lights I was ready to go to Jaquar not wanting to because of knowing crazy bill. So what I did was go to auto zone store before going in store I stated checking bulb one was very badly rusted after changing bulbs no more check rear lights. I was very happy. Robert keep on the good work.

Thanks for showing opening the remote for battery replacement. Even though it's pretty obvious to pry it open, it was reassuring to see it done so you know it's okay to keep going when you get the little resistance on the initial pry. I did not have to reprogram the remote after changing the battery, but I'm glad the instruction was here if I needed to!

Robert I had problems with my 2000 xj8 Jaquar dashboard saying check rear lights well after making an appointment but cancelling thank goodness I could just imagine the cost I went to check all my bulbs after one breaking and seeing the rust I went to auto zone changed several bulbs with the help from guy in store no more check rear lights saved money & cancelled my Jaquar appointment. I did watch you working on a Jaquar in regards to lights but I believe it was more involved I also remember a 600.00 approx. on cost. Thank you again.

Phew, this sorted me out after my XJ 2004 X350 had been sat for a couple of months and the battery had gone completely flat. After charging the battery, all was good, but the alarm remotes just didn't work for some reason :-( I used your method and it sorted me out, but I failed half a dozen time before I got it to work. I found that the timing of the high beam flasher pulls was critical; too fast or too slow and nothing happens. I was delighted when I found the right frequency and got those chirps 🙂

I had similar problems I made an appointment with Jaquar did not want to because just thinking of high bill amount. Well I went to auto zone I started taking bulbs out one had a rusted base ended up breaking well after changing three bulb., guess what no more check rear lights, I was so happy, I cancelled my Jaquar appointment ASAP.

My newly acquired 2000 XJ8 : I just took the FOB apart to clean due to delayed function, to my surprise it had 2 batteries stacked on top of one another(a first in my past 308 ventures lol). So now it's dead in the water after re-assembling, I'm assuming it must be programmed again once the batteries have been removed, oh the joy lol. With my last 308 seems I remember a website that sold used FOBs already programmed & ready to go, wish I could recall that site. Anyways Robert DIY, I'm back with another toy lol. Thanks for your info. sir.

Thanks the high beam flasher method worked like a charm. Only issue I had was that the chirp is so quiet. Could barely hear it in the shop with other cars running.

Great video! Good easy to follow instructions and good views of each step. I also liked the introduction to the key system. I found that it was easier to have the drivers side door open and the trunk (boot) open while I was doing it so I could hear the chirps. I just bought two OEM keys and now need to get them cut at the dealer but I guess they have to be programmed as well. Any videos on programming a new key?

I, sprayed some starting fluid in to the air box then the jaguar stared up so I think my problem is a bad electric fuel pump because my friend that I got the jaguar from was just driving it

Worked successfully on my UK model (RHD) 2002 XJ8. Note however, it didn't enter the program mode with the first key I used in the ignition (tried flashing routine 3-4 times) but did first time with the second one (both full black not green valet keys).

Robert it was just replacing several new bulbs. Now I am having problems with my remote I bought on e bay. Was in the car for around 20 minutes not working I'm trying your u tube one more time today. Thanks for the video Robert. One question regarding the key remotes; do they have distance issues ? Meaning if you have to be that close to make the remote to work ... I own a 2000 XJR & 1997 XK8. I do not have remote for the XJR but shopping to get one or two. I do have remote for the XK8 but it gives me a hard time to put it to work. I replaced the battery but still having problems to open/closed the locks. Any recommendations where to buy them for both vehicles ? Thank again !

Love your videos but one thing you fail to mention which may solve a lot of peoples problem if it did not work is that you have to have the front door open when performing all of those task. Well I know I did, so if it did not work for any of you just do over with front door open
