Let’s avoid catching on fire, shall we?
Imagine how embarrassing it is to catch on fire in your Jag, you’d probably never live it down.
I detail to the best of abilities replacing worn fuel lines from the fuel rail as well as the feed and return lines to the rail.
This is another very crucial precaution to take in XJS ownership and it wasn’t that expensive at all!
Enjoy.
I'm not a pro, just trying to help a fellow XJS owner, I wish a video like this was around when I was attempting this.
Thanks to Mr. Jeffrey for his guidance throughout.

Thanks very much for posting. I'm in the midst of doing the same work on my '86 for the first time and it's a big help to have seen some of this done.

That's a real pita of a job, did it last year the same way and took ages. I also ran carb cleaner through each injector. I attached the aerosol head of the can to a spare hose with some shrink tubing and brake line, pushed it halfway into each injector's barb, pressed the nozzle a few times to pressureise it, then hit the pins on each injector with wires from an old phone charger. It gave me peace of mind that each one was working ok if nothing else.

Yeah same here, I didn't get them flowed or benched, ran some injector cleaner in them and let them soak for a while, took a 9v battery and ran the solution through and let it sit for a few hours.. They all clicked and corresponded well, and maybe it's just me but they sound quieter too. Cheers and thanks for watching.

In my recent experience removing even 10 year old rubber fuel lines is difficult, I believe part of the problem is down to the ethanol fuel additative that has become mandatory over recent years, I plan on changing any rubber items that come into contact with fuel with steel braided fuel lines every 8 years. Seen to many even not so old cars burn to the ground to not consider these long term consumble items.

Make sure you take a video of the process!

Be careful using a craft knife to cut your rubbers off, one score in the metal hose tail could cause a leak.

i had to somewhat do the same thing to my xjs it had clogged injectors from sitting 20 years got the injectors rebuilt and used hose clamps on the fuel lines between the rail and the injectors lool
@PedrosGarage

I used the fuel clamps because I used the wrong fuel hose :( When you purchase the correct size and ensuring it's fuel hose, it fits tightly, and wont need any clamps! Good luck.

Thanks for the video. You can let the injectors just soak in that fi cleaner? It doesn’t matter if the connectors get wet? Been contemplating cleaning mine or just getting new ones. The price here to have each cleaned is 30.00. That’s 360 plus my time To go and drop off. Then the cost of rebuild kit. And my time to do everyone of them. Might as well buy a set already cleaned up with all the hose work done for me. BUT if I can clean mine at home like this. I will go that route.

I soaked them, and then took a 9v battery to run the solution inside of it.. this was a "ghetto" solution you can call it, but it has worked well so far! I have a friend local to me that can bench flow and clean your injectors for a lot chesper than replacing them. If that interests you I can gladly send you his information.. Cheers and do apologize for the late reply.

How long do you cut the fuel line from the injectors to the fuel rail and the two long fuel hoses on the front from the fuel rail to the injectors?

Hi, What type of fuel hose you use for replacement ? I found CODAN SAE J30 R9. Inner diameter 7.3 mm and Outer diameter 13.3 mm, will that be ok ?

Hey Cody, a couple of places to start are on the Facebook groups for XJS V12. There’s a plethora to look for and verify for a non start issue. Fuel pump, clean fuel, injectors firing, compression, etc etc. Relays, distributor, there’s a lot. What have you trouble shooted so far?

dont understand WHY you seem to think 30 odd year old rubber should be ok ?? rubber by vertue of its composition goes HARD and brittle and splits thats all without exception the effects of "time" on rubber car and motorcycle components ,anything under the bonnet in the engine bay is also affected by HEAT which again hardens rubber up

Yup! It was like petrified. xD Caught me way off guard, I'm not a mechanic and never encountered rubber this far gone.

xD I have had my moments where I've needed to walk away from it.. most recently dealing with a weeping banjo bolt on top of the radiator.. stupid designs that render the car immobile upset me more than anything else.. but trust me, remove the extra stuff, (air pump, replace the AC compressor with a smaller one so you can access the first two spark plugs, convert to electric fans and remove the hub and mounting for the old fan) and you'll gain a lot of access and life will become easier.. Thanks for watching!
