So BLESSED to have found this channel. Reddit brought me here. This was an amazing tutorial. You are great, brother. I do have one question for you: I am a newbie, wanting to get into making 90's boom bap style of hip hop production. I am not a musician, merely a hobbyist/enthusiast/hip hop historian (I'm 50 years of age) so I will be 100% sample based. I do have a computer and I don't plan on taking any gear outside of my home. I am on the fence between the MPC One and Maschine MK3. I noticed on your channel that you also have videos on the MPC One, so I think you're in a great position to lead me in the right direction because you are very familiar with the ins and outs of both machines. Thank you again for the amazing content. Blessings!
@JahnRose
@JahnRose 2 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the kind comments brother! For me I love the stand-alone I get with the MPC. it’s a lot more expensive to get that with the Maschine. Their standalone is very pricey. I will say in my experience that learning machine is faster. Although I have heard others say the MPC is faster. The main reason I love the Mpc/ standalone is that I don’t get any latency when I’m playing. Latency = the computer dragging & makes timing impossible. This is one of the main reasons many modern music makers started quantizing everything. Or snapping all the beats to the grid. 90s hip-hop doesn’t do that at all. So you need to be able to accurately hear and feel the music... to feel the groove. so if you have a very beefy computer... latency shouldn’t be a problem. But if your computer is older or slow in any kind away, it’s going to be a big issue. Hope this helps bro have a great day!

Thank you so much for this video! Could you make a video about BPM, Timing, The difference between 1,4,8,16 bars. I’m having trouble getting my time down when I lay drums down they just overlap and it’s off beat and it sounds horrible. Also I want to use a sample as a loop and I haven’t figured that out yet. I also don’t know where I can find the page on the maschine program that I can view the colored squares to my beat and move them around and delete them and such. I don’t think I’ve seen a video yet (using a mk3) to describe BPM and bars and timing and such. Thanks!

Hey have you ever ran into a problem where adding a 4th or 5th drum kit or group kit and start hearing popping or static? If so what to do to get rid of it?
@JahnRose
@JahnRose 3 ай бұрын
It has so do with the processing power of your computer and your audio settings. Go into the audio settings in maschine and increase the buffer size. this should hopefully get rid of the pops. But the more u increase it the more likely you are to experience latency ( delay in your signal). So you have to find some sort of happy medium for your system.

How do you take a single sample and play it pitched to every note without pitching each sample manually?
@JahnRose
@JahnRose 8 ай бұрын
Just select the pad that the sample is on and then hit the "keyboard" button on your maschine controller. pad 1 (bottom left corner) will now be the original sample, pad 2 will be pitched up 1/2 step, pad three will be pitched up 1 step...etc hope that helps

How did you connect your turntable to the MK3 to sample from it? I'm getting one soon, and haven't even seen the back, so maybe it's just obvious...I'm assuming I can feed in audio from other devices, such as sounds/music from an Android phone?
@JahnRose
@JahnRose 2 жыл бұрын
So the mk3,has three audio inputs- a stereo L/R and a mono “mic” input. All of which are quarter inch ( like a guitar cable). So if your record player has old-school phono outputs, you will need to get some kind of adapter/ cable. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions after you pick up your Maschine. Have a great day
