The imagery for this scene was absolutely fantastic. In the first few seconds of seeing jaime charge at Dany and Drogon I was instantly rooting for him. Not because I dislike Dany, but because the music and scenario are perfect for an epic fight. The brave knight vs the monstrous dragon, with Jaime almost certainly going to die.

@Ididntchoosethisname6 жыл бұрын
It's pretty BS that Bronn would be able to hit the dragon like that. Ballistas aren't precision weapons. They're siege weapons. You point it at a wall, or a mass of soldiers, fire and instead hit another part of the wall, and miss the soldiers. Da Vinci never made a ballista that could move and aim like that, and he was an unparalleled engineering genius.

The great thing about this scene is that it contrasts so well with his charge at the Battle of the Whispering Wood (where he charged Robb after realizing his force was going to lose), except the reasoning behind his charge has changed. When he charged Robb, he absolutely believed that he would not fail. He sought to cut off the head of the enemy not because he necessarily cared all that much about the aftermath, but because he didn't want to lose and had faith in his own invincibility. When he lost his hand, he lost much of that belief, and when this battle takes place experience has shown him that he is very mortal. He charges this time, not because of vanity or because of some faith in his invincibility, but because he cares about the aftermath of the battle. He knows that more people will be burned alive should Dany live, he knows what destruction her father sought and what she has already done, and he knows that he will likely be killed in his attempt to make sure that doesn't happen. He charges any way.

I mean Jaime has always been my favourite ASOIAF character after Victarion. I guess how much I liked him in the books translated to the show, at least for the first few seasons
@elyastoohey6621 Жыл бұрын
As much as I love Jon, Jaime is the hero of the books. We're intentionally positioned by Geroge to hate him initially, and then slowly realise that we, just like many of the people in westoros were somewhat mistaken about him. he still pushed Bran out of a window and wanted to kill Arya for Cersei. But underneath it all, is this ideal of a "good knight" struggling against the dirty realities of his world. Like he doesn't vindictively harm Bran. He does it because Bran's knowledge could get him killed. Cersei is an absolute materialist. Jaime is honestly more of a spiritualist caught in the thrall of that materialist. She is his only link (at the star of the books) to the material world. ASOW and AFFC is a journey of Jaime slowly finding a place in the material world independent of Cersei.

I love the subtle link to how he killed the mad king by stabbing him in the back. Here he is charging towards Daenerys' back with a spear. :)

Not really. He only stabbed the mad king in the back because he was running away from him after he told him he was going to kill him. Here he is attacking Dany because he literally will be obliterated if she knows he is coming by Drogon. The only real similarity is that the Mad King would have killed all of King's landing if he survived, and Dany is likely to do quite a bit of killing herself now that she has survived this battle.

I loved how this battle is straight out of a fantasy novel of good and evil. A battle between the army of trained soldiers in gilded armor against an invading force if savages and dragons. In any other piece of fantasy, it's clear who's good and evil, but not Game of Thrones. This show has masterfully shown that there is no clear distinction between good and evil, but that in war, the two become blurred.

The world did Jaime wrong. 1. He’s considered craven and dishonorable because he killed the Mad King when he’d sworn an oath as Kingsguard to protect him. Yet… 2. Part of Jaime’s decision to kill the Mad King sprang from the fact that he actually witnessed the brutal and unfair murders of Rickard and Brandon Stark, Ned’s father and brother. Jaime felt that he was doing the right thing by killing the Mad King, avenging beloved and honorable men. 3. Ned Stark himself despises Jaime for being “dishonorable” and killing the insane monster who murdered Ned’s own family! 4. By contrast, Barristan Selmy, an “honorable” Kingsguard who stuck by his king even as the latter committed countless atrocities, was actually rewarded by King Robert for sticking to his duty and was given a full royal pardon when Robert took the throne. He is hailed as a hero for not betraying the Mad King (wtf?). “Honor” in Westeros apparently only extends to duty, not morality. Fail in your duty and you fail as a person, no matter how disgusting the duty may be. In modern times, Jaime would have been considered a hero and Ser Barristan would have been decried as a war criminal.

The irony of this scene is fantastic. Game of Thrones is all about demonstrating why medieval fantasy is not like a fairy tale, and lo and behold, one of the most shady and immoral characters in the entire story gets a moment to act like a gallant knight from a fairy tale.

Love how Daenerys facial expression and body language changes - its very subtle but she shifts from fear to confidence as she realises Drogon will protect her. True mother/child bond there, even if he is a dragon!

Daenerys is no warrior, she is just a ruler who reliance too much to her Drogon, you can say how scared she is when Jaime rushes towards her. In the other hand Jaime is a true warrior even without his right hand he still has no fear of death.
@refulgent_fanta Жыл бұрын
He may be a true warrior, but he wasn't very smart. Charging at Daenerys with a giant dragon in close proximity? Did he think Drogon was just going to stand there and let him kill her?
@TheBurak47 Жыл бұрын
@@refulgent_fanta what would you do? Try to run away from a DRAGON? There were 2 options, stopping the massacre and war by charging and killing dany or running back to king s landing. Jaime is not type of second option. Even in the battle of whispering wood, when his forces losing the battle he tried to reach Robb Stark with his small company to kill him and end the war. Even though he knew he will be dead after killing Robb. Plus he was almost killing Rob but his squire saved him
@refulgent_fanta Жыл бұрын
@@TheBurak47 I don't know what I would do, but I definitely wouldn't try to charge at a pissed off dragon. And he may not be the type but in the end Jaime ran back to King's Landing, to tell his sister that Daenerys' army can't be stopped. Only if she would've listened!

The thing that confuses me is the geography. They were at the shore, Bronn didn't superman tackle him into the sea, so how the fuck did the water suddenly become so deep?
@desimc896 жыл бұрын
It may have been like a fjord where the water depth plunges really quickly a few feet from shore. Most likely it was lazy writing.

Jamie absolute mad lad looking like a true hero charging a dragon. Too bad love made him a fool
@Apkans6 жыл бұрын
I just love how this scene looks! The white horse in stark contrast to the fire, ashes and big ass monstrous looking dragon. It really makes Jaime look like the good knight out to slay a monster. From Jaime's perspective Daenerys must look like one too, especially considering his history with the madking. The series fucked up by having him kill his cousin, cause if this going to be in the books, Jaime is a lot more selfless in his acts than people realize, and a true unsung hero.

Oh, but Dany is a monster, at least the one in seasons 7 and 8. How people root her for her entitlement is beyond me. She always blindly believes she is the ONE that should rule and the seven kingdoms are her birthday. Shitty girl doesn't understand/ The Throne WAS NOT usurped from their family, it was WON by war, the same way Aegon conquered. Once a king or his heir loses a war, no matter which way they lose, they lose the right to rule. At least Viserys, her brother can be pardoned for being an idiot, Dany has no excuse.
@publiusventidiusbassus1232 Жыл бұрын
@@aswinastro Remember the scene in season 2 where she threatens to destroy and ravage whoever stands in her way because she doesn't get her way? Yeah, the entire rest of the show her character arc is to double down on that entitlement. She was a monster from day 1. The witch that poisoned Khal Drogo and aborted her child was 100% right about her and what she'd bring to the world.

Only in the Game of Thrones can a man gallop on a horse in ankle high water along the shore line & can get tackle saved into 30 feet of water. Ever make a mad dash dive into the ocean and end up in water above your height? I didn't think so, let alone sinking your way down deep to the water's depth. The only thing that's even a bigger joke is the opening scene of the next episode. Where Jaime & Bron became the best divers/swimmers of all time. They end up hundreds of feet away, on the opposite side of the shore, coming out of calm water, with weighted gear on, from the deep depth's of the water, all in the breath they dove in on. I can hear the applause coming from all those poor souls that drowned in cement boots. Love GOT, but they just made a mockery of physics, water depths & man's tolerance in water.
