As someone who used to care a lot about Warcraft lore, I thought I'd throw something out there: What happened in the Purge is actually an unfished story. There is a complete story, but parts of it were removed for unknown reasons, leaving an confusing narrative. I guess because they wanted it to be ambiguous for players. Though there's also issues where the two versions of the event contradict each other in small ways. The full story can be pieced together from old developer tweets (which I've long lost track of), but essentially the story is that a single Sunreaver was plotting the theft of the Bell. The Bell set off a Sha outbreak in Darnassus (that was cut). Aethas shows up just after the bell is stolen. He truly did not know what was happening, and did not arrive until the deed was done. He intended to confront the Sunreaver over it, but was threatened by Hellscream's agent, who told him if he interfered, Garrosh would slaughter the Blood Elves. Shortly thereafter, he was summoned before Jaina. Afraid for his people, he opted to lie to Jaina and feign innocent. Meanwhile, every other Sunreaver truly is ignorant and innocent of the crime committed, but are attacked and imprisoned regardless. Jaina, however, is rightfully furious over the (cut) Sha outbreak in Darnassus. Which is why, in this cutscene, Aethas acts nervous when Lor'themar says the Sunreavers are innocent - while generally true, Aethas was knew, albeit too late. And that's the full story untold in-game.

Lor'themar's older model triggers me now.

The funny thing is that Chen is correct in his assumption: that every reprisal sparks a new one. Big difference is that Lor'themar never gave the order to the Archmage and Kal'dori. They were acting on their own. Lor'themar was in peace talks with Varian to integrate the Blood Elves back into the Alliance. When Jaina did "Deus Vult" on the city, against a species which is holding on by their finger tips at this point, it makes sense that Lor'themar wants some (warped) justice. Also, Jaina, when have you given them a chance of peace? Last time you tried that, Theramore blew-up and you tried to drown Orgrimar with the Alliance fleet in the way. Me thinks you're not the woman of peace you claim to be anymore.
