If I enjoy a drum track this much (I've listened to it like 20 times now), I can't imagine how much I'll enjoy the album. Can't wait!

Jake, this is amazing and sounds SO freakin' powerful!! The last time I recorded there was when I tracked on a single called 'Fame Over Demise' when I was playing guitar for Woe Is Me. I'm seriously praying for the opportunity to track there again for a demo with my new upstart group at some point this year - #1 mark to be reached!! I just need to get a decent reference along with our ready-to-go pre-production for anyone who would be willing to hear it haha. It's certainly a toughie! :P

thats the one thing that i love about jake garland, his playing is so clean, his powerfills the ones that you are referring to are so clean, i have been practicing power fills for about 2 years now i can play them but no where near as clean as jake. Thats one of the things that i really take as inspiration for his playing to keep practicing and make everything as solid and clean as he can. Sean

I think the mixing is appropriate. list like every other instrument or voice, they like to have their own personal mix. In metal core, this is appropriate because the drums need to cut through. if they were mixed like a rock band for instance, the mix would be very muddy. cymbals are rolled back to keep the drums standing out. its all a matter of what you're trying to get. eq wise, if not eq'd correctly, the drums will not sit in the mix, but rather on top or below. volume adjustments can't fix a bad eq mix. if you ask me, the drums are mixed nicely. good amount of reverb on the snare too.
@TYFLOL8 жыл бұрын
It doesn't even sound good in the full mix cause every instrument sounds like shit... I think the drum sound is awful, but the problem is that it doesn't even sound good in the context of a full mix

No gate here the reverb is from the ROOM kontakt instrument. The snare for this sample pack contains a direct hit.nki and a room.nki, this has additional EQ to make the mix sound tighter though. (Native Kontakt Instrument) I bought it, and it sounds intense in a good mix.

@Andyclysm11 жыл бұрын
My theory (as a sound engineer in training) is that what's used here are the edited snare, tom, floor tom, and kick drum tracks. And the cymbal sounds being so low is due to the cymbal tracks being muted and the cymbal sound is actually spilling into the active mics. Although, that snare is being run through some sort of outboard gear to give it that nice reverb.

Seems like I need to put this in the description..but to clear it up, the audio from this was sound replaced with one hit of each individual drum. It is still the sound of each drum, and still live room sounds. Nothing was mixed and was not the final drum track, just a quick play through! If you want 100% live audio go watch my drum video for "Prove Me Right" :) Also I use DW 8000 series longboard pedals. They don't make them anymore.

Hey jake, huge fan, I was wondering about your live performances. I imagine you play to the click tracks when you guys are live. What sort of headphones do you use? I bought some $80.00 headset and I found that they weren't quite loud enough when I played live. I see you have a headset but do you use the ones that go in your ear when your on stage?
@colinbazzano12 жыл бұрын
from 0:00 to 0:07 you have the intro right into the chorus until 0:20. a little breakdown followed by the first verse starting at 0:49 to 1:04. Then the chorus again until 1:21 then it's like the part in The Sinner (1:27 in the song) 1:47 we pick back up with a breakdown until 2:01 then a possible gang vocal part until 2:15 where it goes back to the chorus Then it's like in The Victim (2:43 in the song) from 2:28 to 2:49 followed by a breakdown until 3:03 followed by a transition, chorus & outro
@111omerta12 жыл бұрын
His drums in the first studio update have the audio from the live room. In this video the audio has gone through a mixing board and a computer. so yeah, they sound different.

How is his small tom set up? Is it connected to the cymbal stand or what? Its really close to the snare and I love that but I don't get how its being held.
@jakegarland212 жыл бұрын
I don't mind people disliking that the video has the drum track from the album over it.. But to iplaydrumsye don't act like you know your samples, I can guarantee that you don't have that drum sample.. All of the samples in the video are taken straight from each drum at the studio. That snare is 100% my snare! And it's actually a Truth bubinga wood/brass hybrid snare, not hand hammered brass! :)
@grantbeaudry12 жыл бұрын
By doing drum replacement, what do you do when it comes to cymbals? Replace them hit by hit?
@grantbeaudry12 жыл бұрын
I know how to do drum replacement (I did it on my bands whole album) but what do they do when it comes to cymbals? On "The Hollow" and other Chango's work, the cymbals are sampled. How do they do cymbal replacement?
@bizmarkism12 жыл бұрын
agreed. hes amazing

Most of the bands' drummers that record at chango track the same as they sound on the recording songs, impressive that Jake just plays just exactly as how their songs sound.

triggers are simply a little pad that attaches to the snare head, bass head, tom head, etc... now what it does is go from that to a module for all the present triggers you have and when you hit that certain thing that is "triggered" it outputs a pre-made or user-made sound that distinctively sounds the same every time for a more tight and percussive sound like you just witnessed above... So if you want to sound like Def-leopard or Metallica, it is actually very possible... Hope this helped :-)
@EdwardSmith9412 жыл бұрын
Hey man, what hi-hats, ride, and the china are you using? They look like the NRG series from TRX but I'm not sure.
@MitchInBeanie12 жыл бұрын
Ah I see it now. Thanks!
@FearingFarewell12 жыл бұрын
No, that actually IS the Memphis May Fire official drum samples, released about 2 weeks ago. Source: Cameron Mizell.
What's the best way to memorize a bass drum pattern? I sometimes write the coolest bass drum parts, but then I can't remember them. How do you do it?
@LukeWarmSwab12 жыл бұрын
Why not the NRG 19" china? The sound of that is so beast :-P Also, what exact crashes are you using? Regards :)
@NolanBellingerDrums10 жыл бұрын
Does anyone know how you would tune a snare to sound similar to that? I don`t want to use the samples he has online because I still want my own sound to.
@JordanCouch112 жыл бұрын
Could you break down the fill you do at 2:47? I watched it at least twenty times. I can't wrap my mind around it. It's crazy awesome.

@jakegarland212 жыл бұрын
Hey guys! Thanks again for continuously checking the video out! Two extra things I just wanted to clarify..as I saw lots of comments about it.. is yes this obviously is not me actually tracking the drums, and is more of a play along to the drum track, and also.. when I made this video I accidentally tracked to a tempo a bit slower than the actual song was tracked to, so all the little edits you see are Sam just editing so the audio lines up and not me taking like 100 takes to film this haha :)

It doesn't look like they mic'd the cymbals up, but if they did they probably just lowered the volume on them so you can hear the drums more clearly.

So is this drum track possibly part of any of the two songs fully released? AKA Vices or Prove Me Wrong?
