About AVATAR:
On the lush alien world of Pandora live the Na'vi, beings who appear primitive but are highly evolved. Because the planet's environment is poisonous, human/Na'vi hybrids, called Avatars, must link to human minds to allow for free movement on Pandora. Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), a paralyzed former Marine, becomes mobile again through one such Avatar and falls in love with a Na'vi woman (Zoe Saldana). As a bond with her grows, he is drawn into a battle for the survival of her world.

Spot on, he’s such a badass in this movie and I’m glad James Cameron has shown very little of him. I think James knows this as well. That Quaritch himself has a fan base. I suspect he’ll end up joining Jake in a fight against a bigger adversary when it’s all said and done. Not sure how or why but I have that gut feeling. He has the most epic lines in part 1 as well. "You think you're one of them? Time to wake up." Quaritch's words are so ironic now. Now he's the outsider. He may have his memories, wear their clothes and use their weapons, but he's not human anymore. He'll never be one of them again. To the RDA, he's nothing more than a tool. What place will he have in the future the RDA has in store for Pandora?
@kiroc89
@kiroc89 9 ай бұрын
Completely agree and my same sentiment that seems lost on many since they say he got neutered. No, becoming a full and forever Na’vi species adds a significant layer to his internal workings. He doesn’t fit in the human world so his human motivations are going to fall away, as they should. He wouldn’t ever benefit from their success in taking over Pandora. He might not have thought long and hard about that yet but I think he’s going to, and on some level has entertained that. The big tell to me was during the Amrita extraction scene he seemed very, conflicted about the banality of it

If you consider the fact that he was a dad during the whole movie, because little Miles (Spider) was on the way and was born maybe only weeks before Jake and the Na'vi killed both his parents, it puts their entire battle, especially their final fight, into a completely different perspective. Actually, Jake only arrived to Pandora 3 months before the endgame, so Qaritch already had a family to worry about when they first met, because his lover - Paz - was pregnant. Quaritch fought for his family and comrades - his men, his subordinates (he was tasked to keep them alive), Jake fought to avenge trees. The Home-tree was already destroyed and ready for mining. Jake abandoned his mission and didn't actually negotiate with the Omatikaya about their relocation and became Toruk Makto and gathered Na'vi clans on Pandora to storm the human stronghold. Qaritch decided to have a pre-emptive strike to avoid massive ethnic cleansing by the Na'vi and somehow he is the villain not Jake - who was a deserter if not a quisling.

First film is brilliant, second film I feel like they neutered the colonel a lot. The profiteering 12 rating meant that he was never going to be able to do much more than take one of the goodies hostage now and then. They really capitalised on the "oooh isn't this pretty" factor and did away with the moral nuances of the first film. I wished they had pressed the complexity of the war further, with the humans having to return to Pandora out of desperation with having depleted their own natural resources and the Na'vi of course having to defend their planet. Feels like wasted potential to create a meaningful narrative which of course was not wasted in terms of money making for the studios. A good film none the less but largely a re-tread of the first with less moral complexity and more 'evil capitalist and army man vs noble Tribals' things are never that simple.

Recomb Quaritch not being exactly like the tunnel-visioned, furious and petty human Quaritch is part of the plot, you goof. Also, the first movie already makes it clear that they went to Pandora for ""resources"" even though the RDA has done shady actions without remorse. The second movie does, admittedly, focus more on Jake's family than the missions of the RDA. But that's definitely gonna change in the 3rd, 4th and 5th. Pay attention more, though.

I think with Quaritch now and forever a na’vi species he can’t really even be motivated by human endeavors. What would it benefit him? He doesn’t fit into their world anymore, literally and figuratively. He’ll never be human again even if they complete their whole objective and take over Pandora. What would he do? He must know that on some level or it’s starting to sink in. I think in Avatar 2 he is solely motivated by revenge for Jake beating him, human interest is no longer his motivation. So there’s some small tells like when the “whaling” team extract the Amrita he seems even just a little disgusted by it all. All that for some rich mf to prolong their life. Who wouldn’t be disenfranchised a bit. I think Quaritch will see that he is viewed as nothing more than a tool, the muscle for some BS human capitalist agenda. Nobody came for him, no back up from RDA out there in the island battle except his estranged son carrying him to the surface. At some point Quaritch has to realize this battle with Jack is diminished returns, and for what? For who? He has to know if he kills Jake there will just be continued resistance, because it’s not Jake, it’s Pandora as a whole resisting. He’s not even human anymore. He’s already getting little tastes of the na’vi way with capturing his banshee, etc. he’s still a brainwashed soldier trained to kill and win, nothing more, but I think it’s fracturing. Spider and his Na’vi body are the catalyst for that. Watch, he will have a redemption arc I’m sure. There would be no value otherwise to show the vulnerabilities we’ve seen in Avatar 2

After watching Avatar The Way of Water I have a cool idea that I think they should put in the next movie, or the fourth or fifth movie. In the climax they should have Spider steal an AMP suit and use it to help the Navi fight the RDA. It would definitely help even the odds.
