Lyrics
Kerosene eyes
I saw the future it burned me alive
I broke his heart in one night
And I left Missouri behind
Thought he was the one
Tortured soul in a preacher’s son
Yeah he prayed on his knees
He preyed on my need to be a light
Someone’s gotta love me not in vain
Somebody’s gotta love me just the same
Somebody’s gotta love me I know it’s true
My mistake was thinking it was you
Sometimes I forget
It wasn’t always so innocent
He put a ring in my hand
I lied when I said
I wouldn’t leave
That was years ago
It was always inevitable
Yeah most days he’s gone
Some days he comes
And talks to me
To me
Someone’s gotta love me not in vain
Somebody’s gotta love me just the same
Somebody’s gotta love me I know it’s true
My mistake was thinking it was you
Oh oh
Oh oh
Oh oh
Yeah it took some time
To see the difference
Between him and I
and I’m still not quite sure
just what I deserve
But someone’s gotta love me
Someone’s gotta love me
Someone’s gotta love me I know it’s true
Someone’s gotta love me
Someone’s gotta love me
Somebody’s gotta love me I know it’s true
My mistake was thinking it was you
Oh oh
Oh oh it’s true
My mistake was thinking it was you

Jake Wesley Rogers was a rising star in the world of politics. His charismatic personality, confident demeanor, and passion for serving his country had quickly made him a favorite among the public. Despite his young age, Jake had already achieved great success in his political career, with many supporters touting him as a potential future leader of the country. One cold winter evening, Jake found himself attending a gala event at a prestigious museum in the heart of the urban city. The event was a gathering of some of the most influential figures in politics, business, and the arts. As Jake mingled with the guests, he couldn't help but feel a sense of pride at how far he had come. As the night wore on, Jake found himself engrossed in a conversation with a group of fellow politicians. They discussed the latest political issues, debated policy decisions, and shared stories of their experiences in office. Jake felt a surge of excitement as he realized the impact that he could have on shaping the future of his country. Suddenly, a commotion erupted across the room. A group of animal rights activists had stormed into the museum, protesting the use of animals in a controversial exhibit. The activists held signs denouncing the museum's treatment of animals, and chaos ensued as security guards tried to contain the situation. Jake felt torn as he watched the scene unfold before him. On one hand, he believed in the importance of protecting animal rights and ensuring their welfare. On the other hand, he understood the museum's need to generate revenue and attract visitors to continue operating. As the standoff between the activists and museum staff escalated, Jake made a split-second decision. He stepped forward and offered to mediate the situation, using his position as a respected politician to bring both sides to the table for a peaceful resolution. His colleagues were stunned by his bravery and composure in the face of adversity. Jake's ability to defuse the tense situation earned him praise from all sides, and he was hailed as a hero for his quick thinking and diplomatic skills. In the days that followed, Jake basked in the glow of his newfound fame. His popularity soared, and he was inundated with requests for interviews, appearances, and speaking engagements. Despite his busy schedule, Jake remained committed to his duties as a public servant, using his platform to advocate for causes that were important to him. However, as time passed, Jake began to feel a sense of unease creeping into his mind. He couldn't shake the feeling that he had made a mistake in his handling of the museum incident. While he had succeeded in diffusing the immediate crisis, he wondered if he had truly addressed the underlying issues at hand. Jake wrestled with his conscience, torn between his desire to please his supporters and his obligation to stand up for what he believed was right. The conflicting pressures of politics, duty, and personal integrity collided within him, causing him to question his own motives and decisions. One night, as Jake sat alone in his office, he finally came to a realization. He had been so focused on maintaining his image as a hero and a leader that he had lost sight of the bigger picture. He understood that true leadership required more than just quick fixes and temporary solutions - it required a commitment to principles, values, and the greater good. With a heavy heart, Jake made a public statement acknowledging his mistake and apologizing for his actions. He pledged to work towards a more sustainable solution to the issue of animal rights in museums, using his influence and power to effect real change. The public reaction to Jake's admission of fault was mixed. Some praised him for his humility and honesty, while others criticized him for his perceived weakness and lack of resolve. Despite the backlash, Jake remained steadfast in his commitment to doing what was right, even if it meant facing criticism and opposition. In the end, Jake Wesley Rogers emerged from the ordeal as a stronger, wiser, and more compassionate leader. His experience had taught him valuable lessons about the complexities of politics, the importance of staying true to one's beliefs, and the power of humility in the face of adversity. As he continued on his political journey, Jake carried with him the knowledge that true heroism was not about being infallible or invincible, but about being willing to admit one's mistakes and learn from them. And in that realization, he found the true meaning of leadership and duty - to navigate the murky waters of politics with integrity, wisdom, and compassion for all.

It was the winter of 2003, and the world was at war. Jake Wesley, a young and ambitious soldier, had just arrived in Poland, ready to deploy to the front lines of the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars. As he settled into his barracks, he couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. The tension was palpable, and the cold, harsh winter only added to the bleakness of the situation. But Jake was not alone. He had met a young Polish woman named Katya, who worked as a nurse at the local hospital. She was beautiful, with piercing green eyes and long, dark hair. They had met at a local bar, and Jake had been immediately drawn to her kindness and grace. They had started talking, and before he knew it, they had spent the entire night talking about their hopes and dreams, their fears and insecurities. As the night wore on, Jake found himself falling deeply in love with Katya. He knew it was wrong - he was a soldier, and she was a civilian, and the war was raging on all around them. But he couldn't help himself. He was drawn to her like a moth to a flame, and he knew he had to be with her, no matter the cost. But fate had other plans. Just as Jake and Katya were starting to make plans for a future together, Jake's unit was deployed to the front lines. He was torn between his duty as a soldier and his love for Katya. He knew he had to go, but he also knew he would be putting her in danger. As the days turned into weeks, Jake found himself caught up in the chaos of war. He saw and experienced things he never thought he would, and he began to question everything he thought he knew about himself and the world around him. He wrote letters to Katya every chance he got, but he knew they were only a faint glimmer of hope in the darkness of war. And then, one day, the unthinkable happened. Jake's unit was ambushed, and he was gravely injured. He was rushed to the hospital, where Katya was working. She was by his side when he woke up, her eyes filled with tears. "I'm so sorry," she whispered, her voice trembling. "I tried to save you, but I couldn't. You were gone for so long." Jake's heart ached as he looked at her. He knew he had made a terrible mistake, and now he was paying the price. He had put her in danger, and he had almost lost her. "I love you," he whispered back, his voice barely audible. "I'm so sorry. I should have never left you." Katya smiled through her tears. "I love you too," she said. "I forgive you, Jake. I always will." As Jake lay in the hospital bed, he knew he had found his true love in the midst of war and chaos. He knew he would never be the same again, and he knew he would always carry the scars of war with him. But he also knew that he had found something worth fighting for - a love that would never die, no matter what the cost. And so, Jake Wesley's My Mistake became a tale of tragedy and redemption, a story of love and loss in the midst of war. It was a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope, always a chance for love and redemption.

*This.* This is why we, as humans, love music. I've never felt more understood listening to a song. JWR constantly puts words and melodies to feelings and experiences I could never articulate, thusly making them tangible in the form of songs. Everything he writes and sings seems genuine; he doesn't try to appeal to what sells, rather he creates what begs to be created, expressed in its raw, beautiful form. I can never stop my goosebumps and/or tears when listening to his work because it is just so pleasantly unusual to hear something this personal and deep, today. His talent is unmatched. I can't wait to see him live again in March, nor can I wait to watch him blow up and become the voice of his generation!
