I have had a few people mention they feel like they are taking advantage of the situation with this info being out there for free. I want to let you all know that I am doing this to help spread the word of my knowledge on the sport to bring more interest into the seminars that my wife and I have been hosting around the world.... The best thing you could do is to spread the word about this KZfaq Channel and to get this info out there for people to use. There isn't enough solid resources for information with experience to back it up and there is a huge void with first hand experience as a top level archer. You can help out the community at large and encourage it to grow. Support for this channel is generated from views, subscribers and the books/seminars that we have available on my website www.jakekaminski.com There is also Amazon Affiliate links to tools and gear listed in the description so be sure to check that stuff out if you are in need of the tools or equipment I use. A book containing the information from the tuning series is in the works and I am excited to get that out there as another resource for you, the archery community to enjoy.

I think the reason for having the arrow of center is that when we release the string it will move to the left (right handed archer). How much it will move is depending on how "clean" the release is. That is why a good archer like Jake, can have have close to center and other need more off center. If you have an old bow without a plunger (the arrow is supported by the riser) the off center is necessary because it makes the arrow bend and fly around the riser and it prevents the fletching from hitting the riser. Thank you for sharing great videos Jake!

Those videos are amazing Jake. Thanks. It s funny when you say “ it s simple”. I m a Swede Swiss licensed watchmaker in Italy and while I m used to precision all that seems very advanced and complicated to me 😆 I right now maybe understand half of it. Those videos sure will wake up interest for your seminars and maybe someday I hope to attend one of those 👍 a very surprising thing to me was the difference in uneven lacquer thickness on the limbs. I understand well the exponential results of microscopic factory-flaws/miss-adjustments but it s insane to see differences in for example finish-thickness in such high-end equipment. I ‘m used to fine tuning watches, my turntable (not easy either) but those are child-games in comparison of what you’ve showing here. I strongly believed that high-end equipment (thinking about the prices) didn’t have that kind of differences! Many thanks for the info and awakening and good luck with all your projects, I’ll follow all that with great interest. 🙏. Michel D.

I accidentally deleted my previous comment asking about the purpose of finding arrow nodes. Not sure what happened. But here it is in case anyone else wonders about the same thing. I asked: What is the purpose of finding arrow nodes? Even knowing the nodes on my arrows, I’m not sure what I should be doing with this knowledge. Jake replied with: “ I’ll be talking shortly on how to apply that info more than just how they relate to center-shot. When I get to building arrows for forgiveness. ” This is awesome! Can’t wait. Once again, thanks for everything you’re doing and have done for the archery community Jake! Appreciate it.

I remember buying my first bow. It didn’t have the cut-out windows the modern recurves had, so by default centre shot was resting against the bow and the arrow point pointed out from the bow. Even when the first metal risers came along, people were used to thinking of arrows needing to bend around the bow, so the arrow points remained out of centre-shot. I suppose as technology and mechanics became better understood, there was a re-think on centre shot for parallel shafts. I must have missed this development when I went away from archery for a while. I’ve learned something today, so thank you.

I love your videos, we learn so much and it is truly the knowledge of an olympian, not just champion but far more in depth. Like some others here, I too am confused about arrow nodes. They help understand what truly matters for centre shot tuning, but i am missing the practical connection of finding them and then how this helps us determine where to seek the centre shot, because it seems that for parallel shafts it's just a simple "limbs - string - arrow" alignment with the string eclipsing the arrow down the centre... Now if this is only just the rough setting and we have to wait for a followup more detailed video, i understand... again thank you for sharing this high level knowledge.

Hi Mr. Kaminski, I have high regard for both your achievements and skill level. Your videos are top-drawer and they provide sound advice to many archers of all skill levels. However, may I suggest that you consider providing ‘definitions’ for new archery terms that are introduced. For example, I do not understand the term “centre shot, and my search on the internet whilst providing a healthy number of misaligned explanations as to what “centre shot” is, I remain uncertain as to the “centre shot” that you are referring to. Thank you again for continuing to share your valuable knowledge.

Hi Jake, thanks for all these videos, most useful even for an oldie like me who has been shooting for 33 years. Like you said, in the old days we were taught to place the point one full width outside centre (Australian spelling). My understanding was that this was so that when the plunger compressed on release THEN the nodes would be aligned with the target. Under your setup the compression would then put the arrow inside the centre shot of the bow. But I will try it in any case. Thanks

My Hoyt has a spring loaded plunger, a Berger Button, and is tuned for aluminum arrows. The plunger is out a little bit left of center shot. When you shoot and the arrow pushes against the plunger, the plunger will deflect and the arrow will be to the right of center shot. Now consider what is happening at the nock- shooting fingers the string will come off of the fingers to the left of where it is at full draw- high speed videos show that the fingers don't straighten out, the string rolls off fo the fingers going to the left so now the arrow is released and the nock is to the left of center, the point should also be to the left of center. When the string comes off of the fingers going to the left, it is putting a force into the end of the arrow pushing to the left, this makes the arrow rotate around its center of gravity and the makes the point push into the button, that's why the button deflects. (And none of this applies if you are shooting a release.)

OK, since you mentioned it briefly,. Out to the left of center shot as a tune start. I am 50, when I was a kid, it didn't matter if if was a center shot (compound) or a slightly off center, a lot of recurve, long bows. (hunting bows) the reason it was explained to me as a kid, roughly 40 years ago, you would set it up slightly off (to the left of center) due to the string rolling off your fingers throwing the string off center, so in theory, the arrow and string would be in at alignment when the string came off your fingers at release. A lot of the bows back then, there was no way to move the arrows more in line with center. It was a hard surface, like a wood hunting bow. When I started shooting a compound, I was still shooting with fingers, and would still tune a hair to the left. I was probably 15-16 when I recall sanders, making a spring style cushion plunger, (or at least when I found out about it) I started suing it and noticed, the lower spring tension would actually help a lot for tuning. Now I am talking about a kid with a hunting set up. Nothing like the details you are going into on this with an upper level shooting like you are tuning for in this video. I learned something about arrows in this video as well. I have never shot a barrel shaped arrow., Thank you for making this series and know that it is greatly appreciated and very helpful going into this much detail. Keep up the great work and have a blessed week. Dale

Jake. Thanks for the video. I shortened my draw length a while back, however all my bareshaft testing indicates I have a stiff arrow, so I was reluctant to cut them shorter. I suspect that the arrows front node is currently just about right on my cushion plunger at full draw. Can that cause any anomalies? My centre shot is dead centre, walk back is dead straight but at 30m my bareshaft is striking around 30-40cm to left.

Hi Jake Loving the videos. You are effectively my coach! 😀 I have a question regarding centre shot for RX7. Easton says to set your centre shot just outside the string - like everyone does for every other arrow. But the RX7’s are tapered down from the point, so going by what you say, would it not make more sense to have it set just inside the string? If you set it outside the sting, when you get to full draw it will be too far outside. Thanks for any advice, and thank you for your channel and full on geek-out videos. 😁💪🏻🏹

Jake, the traditional argument for having the arrow point aligned to the outboard side of the bowstring is that the string is sliding toward the archer as well as forward during the loose. Since the string is to the left of the plane when it comes off of the fingers, having the point slightly to the left has the initial force going closer to being straight down the arrow shaft. We always assumed centershot was a tunable variable, with people finding starting points to the left, down the center, and even to the indside.

Finally a guy with good technical sense - I would consider this as the proper way for a center shot . Sadly , most of the risers (especially cheap ones, wood ones ...) used by beginners do not have the physical space necessary for a proper center shoot setup and you always end up with an arrow pushed to the left - the cheap arrow rests doesn't help either , adding extra distance between riser and arrow in order to clear the arrow rest , so in the end you have indeed an arrow gliding sideways and I suspect you have to try playing with the arrow spine to achieve a straight flight .

Hi Jake - great setup videos, really appreciate what you're doing here. Regardless I've one issue which is not mentioned so far in your tutorials. How do I need to tweak my barebow setup when my aiming point sits always right from the gold? Limb alignment is done, Nockpoint tuning with bareshaft is fine, Arrow spine also fine with bareshaft, Button setup - but still I always have to aim (slightly - 10cm by 18m distance) to the right???? What I'm doing wrong?

Just adjust your button pressure to make the arrows go In the middle. Ive found the small change in tune that this changes is far outweighed by the ability to aim in the middle.

The first time I heard the term of "arrow node" is from Bryon Ferguson's "Arrow Selection and Tuning Explained that explains". It strikes me and I am still not understand it very well. After watching what you had explained more in this video, I a kind of getting some feels about it. But I'm still not fully understand how it has impacted the arrow flight and aiming of the target. I deeply know this is a very important factor but when search KZfaq will only a few KZfaq videos are talking about arrow nodes. Would you able to expand the concept and demonstrate exactly what position arrow nodes in relation to arrow length will cause it flight path to deviate (change) from a given arrow node? Thanks.

Once I get into arrow building it will come into focus. Also it was to help illustrate how the nodes being aligned are what matters to center shot.

Hi Jake. How do i set and find the right brace height for my bow? and what can be different in nuances? And in got a question: adjusting brace height string/grip is a 7mm difference as string/buttoncenter. Is brace height important for pressure in the grip, or important for pressure of the arrow on the button?

Would you say that "centre shot" is a nebulous term in light of the fact that as distance increases and you have to play around with point weights, which cause "centre shot" to wary. What is the practical use of knowing where the nodes are?
@JakeKaminskiArchery
@JakeKaminskiArchery 4 жыл бұрын
Practical use for them outside of for the understanding of aligning the nodes and center shot will be covered in an arrow building video when I talk about optimization for forgiveness. Ive found that center shot is not affected by point weights or arrow stiffness. This is why I suggest a rough tune to get your bow close, then do a walkback and then finalize a bare shaft tune for optimal performance. It may change slightly depending on lots of factors but the amount of factors would have almost unlimited potential affects to postulate.

Is this the same with shooting a tab instead of a release? I am shooting a tradtec titan which is cut past center riser ,and using a plunger. It will ajust center shot but was told to set arrow tip left of string because using a tab. Just now getting back into recurve bows and tjey have changed a lot since I used to shoot them. Used to use spine to shoot slightly around the rest . Shot compounds for years last set up used a drop away rest and microtuned at 66 yards

All of this info is for shooting with a tab. We can’t use a release aid with a recurve bow. I would set it up down the center unless you are using an x10 or ACE.

I may be stupid but I didn't understand this at all. To align any straight object like an arrow you must have 2 fixed points in order to align the third. There appears to be one missing.

My daughter gave me a recurve bow for Christmas. I am 63 and the last time I pulled a bow was in college. Si I have a question. Are you talking about archery or rocket science???????????????

I'm working on producing more beginner related content. You forget how little others know when you've been at it for 2 decades full sprint. No disrespect intended at all, I am trying to slow it down for people.

there seems to be too much repetition in the presentation.

repetition is the only way to learn. Studies show that if its the first time someone is hearing something on a new subject, on average it takes hearing it 7 times to make an impression. If you are re-learing a topic it can take upwards of 20 reiterations for it to stick.
Ouch.. 🤕
