It's funny how Wilkes was totally forgotten when Worthy came to LA, this guy was a legit superstar scorer and averaged over 20 points per game from 80-83. He was a perfect fit for the fast break offence of Magic. The Lakers had some very talented players on their team.

I always appreciated Wilkes' game - he was smooth as Silk and was an excellent all around player. He was great for the Lakers and he was also outstanding with the Warriors when they won the chip. He melded so well with Rick Barry, Magic, Kareem, etc... His shot looked kinda funky but it was effective!
@Amick44 Жыл бұрын
Not sure I feel he's a HOFer. But .... He had a brilliant knack of playing superbly off of great teammates. Which is a sign of a winner. He didn't need the spotlight. And his teams were the better for it.

It's crazy I read he had an unorthodox jump shot, but I shoot the same and it works perfectly fine hard for people to block and especially if you get enough lift and hang time. I always was a knock down shooter, but my cousin showed me to shoot like this. It takes awhile to get use to if you have been shooting a certain way your whole life, but it helps when being closed out on or guarded up close. Keep your eyes on the rim and follow through. It's a beautiful thing I know Jamaal feels the same way.

I actually think Wilikes worked better with Magic and Kareem than Worthy did. His ability to move without the ball and not go one on one like Worthy did, made it so the ball could be in Magic's hands more. He also had a better relatinship with Magic. They never had any problems like him and Worthy.
@Amick445 жыл бұрын
You could be right. Wilkes (could) didn't really care to handle the ball. Magic and he each did what they did best, working together.
