Wow! This man is so inspiring; I am an educator, and in listening to his story I can see him sharing his story with our young people. They need to hear how they can create their own opportunities; their future could be right here on the island. America doesn’t have all the answers, Jamaica can be their panacea if they are determined, and willing to work. Throp, this was your best interview, I thoroughly enjoyed hearing his story. I see a 📖 here.

The beauty of Jamaica is it's nature and lush tropical jungle. The more of that you strip away and turn into roads and big buildings the more it will slowly die away and the ecosystem will forever be ruined. It's a very special place and should stay as natural as possible. Money can't buy that kind of beauty. It's priceless. Buildings and roads are ugly eyesores that suffocate nature and bring sickness.

So the government should not have built this and other infrastructure and highways? Whatever you are smoking, please stop because it is interfering with common sense logic. In everything we do always remember, balance is the key ingredient, we can have both sensible developments while preserving our environment! Did Hawaii, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and many other similar places got destroyed by developing? Sustainable development is possible!

@@user-kk6sj9pi4b Continue to live in your bush only, no is against against your beliefs but you should not intrude on others right to self determination and wishes! Man and development can coexist when done with the other in mind. Throughout human history man has always explored, developed and push the envelope of our living. It seems you would be happy with us returning to the days of living in caves and eating wild uncooked meat. Jamaica is on the right path in regards to its development. Maybe you should get out of your man cave more often, there’s an entire world to be explored.

@@Throp Thanks again for creating this body of work that profiles the business savvy & creativity of Jamaican entrepreneurs & developers. It is on the same level as the biographies of builders, financiers & entrepreneurs like Walt Disney, Richard Branson, Steve Jobs and the countless white male success stories revered in American business schools. I hope that Jamaican schools promote Throp and young people there are watching & learning from the stories on this channel so that they’re inspired to become resourceful creators & entrepreneurs who will continue to solve problems, own profitable assets, build up Jamaica & sell to the world. I grew up in Jamaica & moved to Brooklyn as a preteen where my mother often used Winthrop Car (?) Taxi Service. It’s a delight to learn how that business grew and seeded investments in Jamaica over a long time. These are the origin stories & business lessons that Caribbean young people can study & learn from the lives of people who are just like them. Yes, I enjoyed the business & life lessons from your Dad’s interviews too. Take Care & Keep Publishing! Cheers!

As a St.Thomasnion who lived overseas and build my house in St.Thomas and visit quite often. When I learn about the Suncoast development I was pretty excited and know that I have to jump on board to buy one of those units. My house is build approximately 2 minutes from the now underconstruction Urban Center in Morant Bay so the influx of traffic in that area is about to get wild-deeerrr and Suncoast is the perfect place to get away from all commercial traffic. I'm also excited to see that Jamaicans are getting a bigger piece of the pie in developing St Thomas. ❤️

Wow! What a story. Phenomenal Jamaican success story. It's not violence for me and my colleagues from Jamaica. We are at that special age in America now where we want to get out of NY Uncle Sam has routinely over a number of decades have issued bulletins! No t new to us living in the Stayes. It is what it is! It has never deterred the diaspora or even the foreigners who plan to travel to Ja. One Caucasian friend of mine who has been visiting Jamaica before the resorts decade of development from the early 80's told me Ja is a place you want to go once and keep going back to. There are not very many places in the world that ppl will say that about! Jamaica has stood out since post ww2 where Americans can get to quickly (decent travel times) from anywhere in the contiguous US. The other reason is he told me was it was and English speaking country! Then he said it was the biggest of all the dots in the Caribbean! lol the biggest little island when you are in it you don't feel always like a small island.. so much to see and he and his family claim to have visited someplace different each time they visit over a number of decades and now he says it's reinventing itself to the point where he says the now grown kids want to all pool their money and buy a property to spend the parents golden days and the kids can come for extended visits! Jamaica is a vibe the ppl are the foundation of that vibe then you add in layers of the smiles he told me he sees when he is in Jamaica the food the music the fun of just being there. We are truly the vibe. He explained that when he visits the other islands it's very nice also but the vibes are different. He thinks it's the head start that Jamaica has had in the American market post war! The infrastructure of tourism was embedded into the culture as a part of the daily lives. Then along comes the dominance of all the individuals Bolt Marley Garvey Reggae now dancehall that really adds a new level of announcing to the world that yea "come see us" catch the vibe! We are still not perfect do not professional to be on many levels but we know exactly what our forward facing country can be to the individual. My problem with retiring to Jamaica now is the medical component of my life style. The travelling back and forth and not having to pay out of pocket when I'm already on a fee schedule with Medicare retirement benefits! My kids are all grown and about 9 years ago they(we) invested in a small family property on the Yucatán peninsula of Mexico. Prices were very low back then and my kids were more concerned about value and competitive pricing and we acquired the property and built the family home for Pennie's on the dollar compared to Ja. We have looked and are still looking for maybe a smaller place just to have built property in Ja as there are a number of parcels inherited and are still in the will for the kids and grandkids. I have a second home in Fl and fly down to Florida just like the birds in the fall lol and sometimes onto Mexico. But I've never ruled out a property in Ja as I watch my little island shine bright I am Comfortable with our choices to date and look forward to bigger things for Jamaica especially in health and allied health services! Bless 🇯🇲 🇺🇸

A real inspirational story. I admire this your man's life's vision. 1thing though-why always USD? To value your currency, all have 2 start using it encouraged by the government.

From a foreigner perspective, Jamaica should protect its beautiful flora and all wildlife, beaches etc. I know people need houses. Then build on land that is not unique in its semi tropical natural beauty But build roads that allow Jamaicans and tourists to visit this glorious unspoilt part of the tropical Jamaica They will spend their money , as they do other stunning places over the world Ask yourself, do you really want to follow the way of the west, where roads and ugly buildings with no individuality are the norm?…..???
