Thanks for sharing!! I thought that you were going to have Asian ancestry as well 🤷🏾♀️. However there are people groups in Africa that have smaller eye shapes as well, so don’t be surprised that your “Asian” features are actually from your African genes ☺️. Yup. I don’t know why they all run around saying they’re mostly Ghanaian. It’s Nigerian form majority of the tests I’ve seen.
@Biobele Жыл бұрын
@@norahelaine6041 why are you surprised? Remember when Americans were obsessed with Egypt? When they moved on to Shaka Zulu and South Africa then now finally Ghana. For Jamaica they were obsessed with Haile selasse and Ethiopia now Ghana so it’s normal. But they don’t realize 41 to 45% if ALL slaves taken during the transatlantic slave period came from what is now known as Nigeria. Only about 2 in 10 came from Ghana for comparison for Nigeria that figure would be closer to 1 in 2
@norahelaine6041 Жыл бұрын
@@Biobele I’m not surprised. They like to mention how our dialect is made up of mostly Ghanaian words from the Akan tribe. Yes, we do have many Ghanaian words but also words from various Nigerian languages as well. Our dialect is a word salad of several peoples including the various Europeans who colonized the island at some point in our wild history. Finally, we now have Jamaican patois as it exists today and that is really unique and something totally different from all peoples across the globe, except for some of our fellow Caribbean people (Antigua, St. Vincent, etc sound very similar to Jamaicans). Jamaican dialect has morphed into its very own language. No Jamaican who has NOT studied any African language will have understanding, not a single one. We cannot understand any language out of any part of Africa. Not a single one. Just to note, Jamaicans never claimed to be Ethiopian. That was never a debate at any point in our history. The only linkage to Ethiopia is of course, Haile Selassie and this is for the true Rastafarians. A very small percentage of Jamaicans not even 5%. I believe because of media stereotypes and what we see even on social media how Nigerians were deemed the “bad Africans” that that has a part to play in it. I have a sister who is married to a Ghanaian man and I believe she thinks Ghana is “better” than Nigeria. She’s made several comments to this effect. We also grew up hearing how the worst unruly slaves from Africa where from Nigeria and they were brought to Jamaica. Me personally, I’ve known MANY Nigerians and they are more prevalent than Ghanaian in the United States and in Jamaica. I personally love Nigerians and was ECSTATIC when my niece took a DNA test and it turns out she was 54% Nigerian, 31% Cameroonian and the rest all over. 2% Ghanaian. I wish my DNA test would say 100% Nigerian but overall, I’m glad she was 88% black. You never know when you come from rapist colonies. Eww. 🇯🇲❤️🇳🇬
@Biobele Жыл бұрын
@@norahelaine6041 it’s good that you are more enlightened on this topic than most people I have come across, and you appreciate or acknowledge your Nigerian roots and your Jamaican citizenship and your family, You are right, it was mainly the Rasta movement about the Haile Selasse thing. But my point like you have rightly noted is it seemed to me like most African Americans Jamaicans or most black people in General are or were ashamed to claim any links to Nigeria. You know how Americans love boxes and their Italian American, Irish American and so on when it came to Nigerian they were ashamed of acknowledging any links but where always loud to proclaim Cherokee Indian American or Native American. So I was like hol’ up you’ll celebrate and make a fuzz about your 1% Native American but not your 60% Nigerian? Because to me it had always been clear from childhood it started when I saw a magazine of some Guyanese women and they looked 100% like my dads elder sister who is 100% Nigerian. That was how I got interested in Guyana and all these ancestry thing. It was also very easy for me to find out that majority of slaves came from what is now modern day Nigeria most books on the topic speak of it, but any where I turned I was getting “we are xyz, we are abc, basically anything but Nigerian” and I always told them but the paper trail, the maps, the ships almost half of them all trace back to Nigeria.” So you can imagine my excitement when at home DNA test kits became a thing and people were now realizing oh so we aren’t this and that but mostly Nigerian. Some even claimed the DNA tests were fake because they suspect Nigerian percentages were too much and they should have had more Native American in them, but I don’t blame them at all, it’s the programming when you were told all your life we are Native Americans but never told about being Nigerian or African and now you get a result saying 0% Native American 98% Nigerian you’ll feel lied to by someone and it’s easier to blame the DNA company than blame grandmama and grand papa. But, Even today Nigeria is Half of west Africa. Nigeria has a population of 200m while, all of west Africa is 400m. So if someone says I am west African, the odds that he or she is Nigerian is 1 in 2. Almost similar odds as if you were a descendant of slave and having a Nigerian ancestor.

The majority of Jamaicans, Afro Caribbeans and African Americans will definitely lean Nigeria. I hear a lot say Ghana. Yes, our people were taken from Ghana as well, but they didn't take any more from Ghana than they did from Benin, Togo, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Angola. At the time Europeans named the African regions according to the resource they came for. Present day Nigeria was called Slave Coast, Ghana was called Gold Coast, there was also Ivory Coast (still retains the name). Nigeria is also the most populous black nation and has about 20% of the population of all Sub-Saharan Africans. So yeah, a whole lot of you have some Nigerian in you and in many cases a lot more Nigerian than any other West African countries. Jamaica, Brazil, Trinidad & Tobago and Cuba were well documented to have had a lot of enslaved people from Nigeria.

The Slave Coast started at the Volta River on the Ghanaian coast and went into Togo, Benin (Dahomey) and Western Nigeria. Nigeria is the most populous African nation today, but that region wasn't always as populated. You can't take realities of today and juxtapose them onto past events. The majority of Jamaicans in particular come from Ghana, and there's evidence of this. Just look at Jamaica's local dialect Patois, most of its non-English words are taken from the Akan language.

From the moment I saw you in this video I thought how highly resemble a Jamaican middle aged woman I know, and you could almost be her twin when she was younger and she does have a Asian father. Many Afro Jamaicans interbreeding with Asians who migrated from China to Jamaica. Hence the reason I was surprised, more like shocked no Asian showed up in your DNA results. You may want to do another DNA with another company to compare their information with this one.

I'm curious as to where your Norwegian ancestry is from since there isn't much known history of Norwegians in Jamaica, and they didn't colonize other countries the way the English, Spanish and Dutch were known to do. Maybe one of your Irish or English ancestors had a Norwegian parent/grandparent.

There are African tribes with ‘Asian looking features’. One example is Khoisan people. Smaller eyes are not specific to Asia and African tribes and groups are also ethnically diverse with different features

I predict that you have some Chinese ancestry. EDIT: You don't have any Chinese or other Asian ancestry. However, you do have indigenous American ancestry, which is noteworthy because some indigenous American peoples descend from Asians who migrated to the Americas 10,000 to 20,000 years ago. This explains your Asian-esque phenotype, in my opinion.
