I'm just blown away by the beauty of this man's mind and soul. And let's not forget the courage it took to write this in a time in history when he could have, legally, been institutionalized and subjected to shock treatment for the love he felt. What a bright light!

I just love this man. His honesty and truth attest to the beautiful way in which he can accept us with our strengths and foibles. He is so wise and perceptive and yet I feel as though I would have loved to protect him - to be his best friend, to share. secrets with him, to listen to him talk into the night, comforting me. 💕

Could listen to Mr Baldwin all day ever since I was a child admired this great orator , author , statesperson , story teller . His voice is hypnotic and calming . Comes from New York but has an English lilt to his accent which also makes it attractive and calming . What a great person and what a great voice . Also had an interesting and memorable face also

"But Joey is a boy?" The realization that Love can be found with anyone. But the iron bars of society demand that Love can only be found with a body that only "society" approves. Guilt & Shame follows. Clearly there should have been no guilt where nature had started that innocent curiosity in the shower. Who knows the joy he could have found with Joey during that summer and beyond if only he had the courage to stay and find out. I would have risked it. I would have stayed. And built that Summer into the beautiful youthful innocent romance of the ages. But alas those were different times. Bless you James Baldwin. The interviewer is stuck in the binary and labels. He had feelings for a boy therefore he MUST be homosexual. Cultural norms change over time but all seem like chains to me.
