James may be better than Schenker was when he recorded this song...and it is Schenker's song!!! Unbelievable how good James is. Been listening to UFO for 45 years...Lights Out is probably their best ever song...and he does them proud!

Forget the chops, and the technique, he has the soul of Schenker; that blazing intensity that Mad Michael brought to his solos. And yet, as well as he plays it, James makes it his own. The world will be hearing from him.

A little background. "Lights out" was part of my High School years. I've been a metalhead since the late 70's. I'm 53 now and still a metalhead. I play drums and guitar. So, I know my topic, and let me say something. You, sir are OUTSTANDING. You've got the chops, you play with emotion, you're inventive and your playing SWINGS. (SWING: That's what sets Ed Van Halen apart from his imitators. Listen to the feel and pulse of his playing on "I'm the one" and you'll immediately understand what I mean.) You can really go places with your talent. Don't let anything foul stop you or slow you down, especially ego, chicks, booze and dope. Have fun, and NEVER let any bullshit choices get in the way of your goals. Best of luck to you!

Your awesome James I've played guitar since I was 9 I'm 55 now I can't play anymore I was diagnosed with sclearoderma a auto immune disease that damages muscles . seeing you jam makes me smile I think of when I was playing guitar it was a accomplishment to me and i miss playing but i reflect back on the good times I had keep on jamming never stop you are great don't ever let anyone tell you it's a waste of time music is forever it never dies.

How's that even humanly possible to play like that ? Blows my mind.

if you look on the album, Strangers In The Night, a masterpiece of rock and roll, by UFO, you will see that some of it was recorded here, in Chicago at the old Amphitheater...ok...in 79, we lived one mile from the Amphitheater, and we could HEAR them rocking inside...it was beyond EPIC to hear this from our front porches at 11pm on a summers night, and those of you old enough know, that ANYTHING was possible at a concert especially like this one, possible and likely!....BTW, the kid is better than fantastic!

Those were the days! I miss them., Shop owners sent him free drinks sometimes, and when he played out side W.H.Smiths they actually opened their double doors! . He got more smiles etc than it appears on here. Mostly great times, just the odd complaint but very rare.It's a shame he's too busy these days (but good too).Chris.

James, I am 55 today and just happened to find this while browsing KZfaq for great guitar clips. Found your 2011 Guitarist of The Year video and led me here. UFO are one of my favourite bands from way back when and Lights Out a firm top song of theirs. Boy oh boy did you nail it! Studio quality and note for note perfect, easily as good as when I saw then early 80's. Loved every second, you are certainly a star of the future if not already... Wow! James, that was some really good shredding, Schenker style. I was first introduced to Michael Schenker and UFO when I was 16 years old, their Force It vinyl LP. It's the only album that I ever played side-1 twice in a row before playing side-2. I was so impressed and blown away with Schenker's guitar playing, he instantly became one of my favorite lead guitartists. Your playing is right up there with Schenker's playing, yet without the Marshall stacks nor the iconic Flying V. Very impressive and you look very young, so may you have a great musical future.
