I would love to have learned the lead guitar but i couldn't so i went to the NEXT most important part of a band, the Bass, I learned that because it didn't have but 4 strings and it was easier to learn. Some of my all-time favorite things: The Andy Griffith Show. Pure American. Rock & Roll music. Great guitar playing. And last but not least.... James "Jimmy" Best. One of my all-time faves from that era. I loved him in the Loan Ranger. Loved him in a lot of the other Westerns. And absolutely loved him as Roscoe P. Coltrain, in The Dukes of Hazard. Koo koo koo! But one of my favorite childhood memories was watching him on The Andy Griffith Show, as Jim Lindsey. This is still GOLD!

I found a website when James was alive. It was James selling his artwork. He had a contact email. I told him he was a really good guitar player. He messaged me back saying he wasn't really playing. He actually thought it was kind of funny me asking that. He was a pretty big star to take time to message me back. He was just a really nice guy. One of my favorite episodes of Andy.

@Jason The smallest minority is the individual. And where does he mention minorities? As far as I can see, the "good old days" only set the stage for today's problems --- which you seem to be now embodying in a reactionary way. Rather than being a product of the negative influences of that generation, how about we endeavour to move beyond those to synthesize something better? If we don't, there's only one destination for all of us.

I did the ironing while The Andy Griffith show was on lol. In the summer every one was outside sitting on the stoop. We took out the hose , put our finger on the spout and got everybody soaked. None of us were rich either, but we had fun.. Bungalow Bar ice cream truck came by at night. We’d hear him ringing his bell. My favorite was a Pistachio ice cream on a stick . Sometimes we’d get a lucky stick , good for a free cream bar. I loved Andy , Barney, Opie.. and aunt bee.. she made disgusting pickles. 😝

James Best played in a TON of westerns in the 50s & 60s, starting in 1950. And he played in some non-westerns too. He's obviously not playing the guitar on this recorded event, but he could play guitar. He also wrote songs. His uncle was Ike Everly, one of the best guitarist in the south, who teamed up at times with one of the greatest guitar players that ever lived, Merle Travis. Ike Everly was the father of Don & Phil Everly-The Everly Brothers, who are in the RocknRoll Hall of Fame AND the Country Music Hall of Fame. And yes, Although James Best was NOT in the same league with Ike Everly, he COULD play. Dang good actor too. R.I.P. JAMES BEST

I'm in my 60's now and like to think I'm one hip Nana. I grew up watching this show. So now with all these tv apps I still watch it everyday to get away, relax and calm down. It's holsomness gives me a break from a lot of the garbage that's aired on tv today. I can't get enough of the great old folk songs they did like "Riding on that new river train". That tune stays in my head for days. I love it.
