I feel like you wrote this song for my daughter. In a few days it's 15yrs that she is gone. She made it to 14. She was born in N.Y.C..It was a only day that yr we had snow when she was born. She was beautiful. But she had a brain tumor it became cancer after her brain surgeon refused to take it out. She had 27 shunt revisions. We brought her home to give her peace. She was a strong little girl who hung in for a month and finally she went to her final home. She loved your song "your beautiful". She loved to sing and and had a voice! But the words in this song fit her life as short as it was. Eternal memory!

@@alitabesh5362 I'm sitting here crying for her. Yesterday was 15 years that she got her wings and went home. Her trouble was a tumor that returned. And just like in the song there's no one here to listen too. The surgeon threw her scan across his desk and said he's not going to remove the tumor. So she had 27 revisions of her shunt by him. The hospital administration came to ask me after her 3rd revision when I was going to stop doing them!? Wow really? She told her father that it's to much for a little girl! By that time she was blind and her tumor was cancer. All her life trouble was seizures and tumors were her only friends. The last time she had surgery there were fireworks outside her window for New Year's. She couldn't see. But she is at peace now and the drs they will have to answer to God for her life! Thank you for your kindness! That is my daughters story told in a song.

This song truly captures those last moments with my daughter. She passed on March 11, 2021 at the age of 22. My sweet girl had a cardiac arrest and was on life support for a few days. At the end, so she could donate her organs as she had wished, our family gathered around her as we felt her heart beating for the last time. We used this song in her tribute. My heart will forever be broken, but hers lives on in another being.

My mother loved James blunt. This song I swear is written about her and me. My mother took her on life from depression in June 2022. They had her in the hospital for 5 days and I sat there and watched my mother take her last breath. This song makes me cry so hard! I miss my mama so bad. Every time I hear this I know she is with me. Love you mama

I’ve come to have to adopt at age 55, that I never ever say it can’t get any worse, no matter how unbelievably bad it may be So I am forced to live by that, and grateful for whatever troubles I am experiencing I pray for the ability to at least grow stronger as a result of my suffering, and struggle May I and others grow from it so fewer may have to struggle the same I hope for greatness, but accept surviving! What more can be done

Now...check "monster" official mv from this...the same singer James Blunt. Much worse. It was for his father who got kidney disease last stage...stage 4 of his only one kidney left (he was a donor many years ago). His sister and him didn't match, couldn't to find a donor so...they were adviced to prepare for his dad (passing) coz he's also already old.

It's 2a.m from Vietnam now. I can't sleep. I miss my baby I just lost him 2 weeks ago, he was a 3.5 month fetus. Tonight I missed him again and couldn't sleep. In that cold day, my dearest friend has gone after 3 years fighting with stomach cancer. At his very last moment, he smiled, gentle but as brilliant as in my memory of the old days when we were in university. I didn’t cry then but when i came back to my house and this song randomly popped out of nowhere on KZfaq. And when James Blunt sang “as strong as you were, gentle you go...” I couldn’t hold back the tears. Feel like my heart torn into pieces. If you love someone then let them know, before we run out of time.

From his interview ..James Blunt stated he was a captain in the British Army fighting in the Kosovo war. He met an American soldier there, became friends and later saw him died, literally taking his last breath before his very eyes "watching you breathing for the last time" He vowed to visit his family in New York to return his things .."Under the Stars and Stripes"....A very poignant farewell and a reminder of the atrocities of war. This song makes me cry every time I listen to it. My sister does competition dance and her and her friend do a duet to this dance. It’s about two sisters. The older sister is dying and the younger sister is trying to spend as much time with her as possible. It makes me cry because it reminds me of all the hard times my sister and I have gone through during our childhood. Our mom is an alcoholic and we have had to provide for ourselves most of our lives. We always fou d a way to carry each other. This song truly is in my heart and it represents our trials growing up. Thank you, so much.❤️

every time i hear this song i always end crying. I played this at my sisters funeral back in 2012. She left 6 beautiful children who have since grown. She cried before she left us but we strongly believe she is looking down on us from up above. RIP DENOH

***** Yes he was an officer in the Life Guards - a cavalry regiment of the British Army. Whilst posted to Kosovo he was introduced to "Doctors without Borders" or MSF Medecins Sans Frontieres. Since then he has been an active supporter of MSF through his concerts and filming the documentary 'Return to Kosovo' when he visited the people and places he encountered while stationed there. Blunt is also a patron of 'Help for Heroes' a charity for wounded British soldiers. Apparently he took his guitar with him and would sing to the soldiers for comfort.

Knowing Blunt was a soldier himself only adds to the enormous weight of the song and video. Regardless of ethnicity or country, any man or woman willing to dedicate them self and give what Lincoln called "the last full measure of devotion" deserves respect and honor, and to be carried home. Thank you James for the sobering reminder of those who fight for us and the terrible price they all too often pay

I remember this song being played constantly on the radio when it came out. James Blunt was a big hit a few years ago, and he just... faded away over time. I understand it's part of the cycle these days, but everyone leaves something behind. He was simply forgotten about. Shame.

he's never been properly appreciated in the UK, not sure whether it's his background as a former military officer or whether it's because some people perceive him as a "toff" because he went to Public School I don't know, or perhaps he's too unique for some tastes. I think he's great and have great respect for anyone who has served
