Moore is my favorite bond, due to nostalgia and first exposure to the franchise as a child. Objectively, they're rough around the edges.

I don't want to hurt my brain in the Roger or Sean debate but I will definitively say that as for the movies Roger's were the best. The stunts and music and Roger is great.

"With a view to a kill" is and will alwys be one of my favorit Bond movies. I know Moore is to old but still a very good film.

It got too long with the fire scene at City Hall. But all Bonds have some holes in the boat. I might choose the song as the best Bond song. Christopher Walken was great. It was a good movie.

Roger Moore himself said he knew it was time to retire as 007 when he was older than the Bond girl's mother.

Moore & Connery were the best and most popular actors.

Stromberg was a rich archcriminal who had web fingers, ate seafood, and lived in an ocean hideout... he was the first Batman Bond villain. Even Jaws was a precursor to Bane.

This era had one of my favorite villains, Jaws. Moonraker is one of my favorites because he switches sides for love 😂

Live and Let Die is the #1 Bond film of all time. My first Bond film. Roger Moore is my favorite James Bond though Daniel Craig knocked it out of the park. Dalton and Brosnan were great as well. Simple put, Bond films are awesome.

They would have Bond marathons on tv whenever a Bond was being released theatrically. Early in the Roger run I didn't know who he was. After a week of Sean suddenly Roger's face showed up. As a kid I was a little pissed. Yes I got pissed early in life. But I'm more chill now.

There’s a lot to be said for the villain actors during Moore’s Bond run, Christopher Walken, Yaphet Koto Michael Lonsdale and Christopher Lee all give superb performances but for me the best pairing are Louis Jourdan and Kabir Bedi who have a superb acting relationship. Gobinda is almost fanatically loyal only slightly wavering when ordered to go outside the plane and his mostly silent performance adds to his threat similarly to Jaws. Speaking of Jaws, my favourite Bond henchman Richard Kiel really does act the part. It would be easy for him to represent a one dimensional character, an unstoppable supervillain but he is frightening (I saw Moonraker in the cinema and I was born in 1973) that long slow walk down the alleyway in Rio is in my mind just as much as Fekkesh’s death in Cairo. Richard clearly shows how Jaws would speak by his use of body language. My personal ranking: 1) TSWLM 2) Octopussy 3) FYEO 4) LALD 5) Moonraker 6) VTAK 7) TMWTGG

A lot of elements in the Roger movies are superior to the other Bonds.
@bluejayfan55842 күн бұрын
For many years it was Live and Let Die. I was young maybe that's why I was surprised that Kananga and Mr. big were the same. Yaphet Koto was great and I loved his henchmen. The way they left Bond out with the crocodiles and subsequent chase was 👍. Today I watch Spy or Golden Gun the most.

Roger Moore was just great in the role. He played like a comedy and with humour. He made sure that his character and movies are not be taken seriously but only as a great night out at the cinema. He was just a lot of fun. I also saw him on a rerun of the 1960s British TV series. The Saint. He was very good in that too. Daniel Craig was too serious for me. But Craig was good in the role. He took the opposite tack to Moore he liked Timothy Dalton and George Lazenby portrayal and believed Bond was a serious real person carrying a lot of pain doing a job he did not really like. I think they were all good. But Roger Moore films had great sets and were made in 1970s and 1980s. Two very good eras for movies and music. My Favourite Roger Moore Bond Film was The Spy Who love Me. 2nd Octopussy. However all of them are good highly entertaining movies.
@CineGToo6 күн бұрын
Moore was at his best during his darker moments for the reasons you wrote, he was more humorous. That made those darker moments more impactful. Kicking the car off the cliff in FYEO is an example.
@bluejayfan55842 күн бұрын
When he played tough he did it well. I saw a deleted scene in a Timothy Dalton movie that was comedic. They made the decision to go serious. But had they left that comedic scene in the Timothy Dalton movie would be remembered more fondly. It was that good.

I don't want to rank the "Moore Era" Bond films; I want to forget the "Moore Era" Bond films. To do justice to Ian Fleming's work, all of Moore's Bond films should be remade.
@bluejayfan55842 күн бұрын
I give you a thumbs up because its a valid perspective. But I love the Rogers movies. I would recommend people never read a book before they see any movie. We all get annoyed when movies get it wrong.

🤔 As what you want regarding the Roger Moores time as James Bond. But I can keep watching these movies 🎥 again and again, and still enjoy them. I simply can not say the same thing about the Daniel Craig area of films !..
@TonyWeaving11 күн бұрын
Totally agree about Daniel Craig. Never watched one of his James Bond Films. Couldn't take to Daniel Craig as James Bond.
@ysthafellgynghori84235 күн бұрын
@@TonyWeaving Same here. Craig played Bond with the air of a man who's come to fix the plumbing.
@bluejayfan55842 күн бұрын
I loved Casino with Craig. They went for reality. But Quantum had him hit the ground with a parachute that barely opened. It's the most super hero move in any Bond. The Craig Bonds got stupid. I won't rewatch them. Lots of good stuff in the Craig movies but you feel dumb buying in.

Number 1 - The Spy Who Loved Me (agree with you CineG) - Peak Roger, Barbara Bach (best Bond girl), The Lotus, Jaws... Honourable mentions - Christopher Lee was a great villain, Octopussy (pleased you have this so high) and Let And Let Die ('Trespassers Will Be Eaten...', and the classic Roger quip: 'Kanaga always did have an inflated opinion of himself...') Worst Roger Bonds - For Your Eyes Only and A View To A Kill (also agree with you CineG)

Actually, my "true" Roger Moore is in 1977, 1979, 1981, 1983, 1985. For me, these later movies are much better than LALD(1973) & TMWTGG(1974).
@dr.juerdotitsgo51196 күн бұрын
Although I love TMWTGG because of Christopher Lee, the best Bond is the 80s Bond. Including Dalton's two movies. You have a wonderful selection from the funniest to the most true to Ian Fleming in this very decade.

I grew up on the Roger Moore films, so those are my favorite. What would probably be a match for them would be the Daniel Craig ones

My first real "Bond" movie experience was the newly released 'For Your Eyes Only', when I was 11. 'Never Say Never Again' followed and I liked them both. As an adult I've watched two of the Roger Moore-era films. I always thought Moore's attitude and style was more of what a British Gentleman Spy would be like, compared to Sean Connery. I have to agree with you about 'The Spy Who Loved Me' being #1. After that, I've seen 'Live and Let Die' and it was...funny...entertaining...but mostly meh. Instead of watching the other Moore films, I've been checking out reviews and some of them I'd really have to in the mood for, and at least one or two I'd never bother with.

I remember enjoying watching the Spy Who Loved Me probably the most as a kid in the 1980's. Many memorable actions scenes, exotic locations, Jaws, etc. But looking back as an adult, the plot was way too outlandish to take the film seriously. In that respect For Your Eyes Only and Octopussy would have to top the list as Roger's Moore's best (most believable) Bond films. They were the first two I watched at the theatre as a 6 and 8 year old, and I could still watch them today and at least take the plots seriously. All the other Moore movies were too far-fetched and tried to play off current events/ other successful films of the time too much - Blacksploitation, Kung Fu, Jaws the shark, Star Wars...
@danieldravot3415 күн бұрын
Moore’s movies were comedic, and almost satires of the genre. Moore had the physicality of a coat rack and the result was unintentionally hilarious. While ideal for The Saint, Moore was out of his depth on Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

I would have put The Man With the Golden Gun at the bottom because the movie was just so boring. For Your Eyes Only is my favorite. In addition to having a Bond Girl with an honest to God agenda of her own, it had arguably the best action sequences in the entire franchise (with the added punctuation of Bill Conti's score).

Live and Let Die had its cringy moments and that from 1980s POV. I don't think it was a better film that the others, its just the few chosen were worse.

I swear some Bond fans only say they like For Your Eyes Only because they feel they have to. I'll take Moonraker's over the top or Tacky-Sleazy Golden Gun any day over that boring ass film. I wouldn't watch For Your Eyes Only on a Sunday if I was drunk, and it's not even close to being the worst Bond film. Other than that the list is good and so are its criticisms.
@jockoadams33777 күн бұрын
Octopussy features the most operatic Soviet General in the history of the USSR. Steven Berkoff took Nicolas Cage's ass to overacting school.

He was great. It was an absurd, over-the-top performance that a cold-war era film needed. I may need to dedicate a video just to him.
@ysthafellgynghori842311 күн бұрын
Roger starred in seven Bond films. Two more than Craig. Moore may not have strived for reality but then Bond is not a very believable character. In the book of 'Dr.No', Bond fights a giant squid. And Dr.No himself dies when a ton of bird poo smothers him. Hardly gritty realism.

Dear commentator, people that love the classic era Bond films couldn't care less about the light in loafers modernist hand wringing. So what if Moore was older than the Bond girls. Age difference between male and female leads was very common place in the golden era. No one cares about it. Live and Let Die is at the TOP or near top for Moore Bond films. I love Blaxploitation films to this day. No one wants a soy boy take on these movies.
