Very nice lesson, it's a great style for any guitar player to have in their arsenal. James Brown always made sure his band was tight as a drum, producing some of the best and innovative (and useful) funk and soul grooves.

Thanks for sharing this lesson Damon. I’m gonna get my guitar and practice this today. It doesn’t get better than learning to play JB songs from a JB band member 👍 I always loved your solo on Doing It To Death, but I think there is a small part missing and I always wanted to learn it, which I don’t know how to explain it but it mainly comes after when he and the backup singers sing “We got to take you higher” then comes that small guitar lick.

@@josephellis6697 Oh yeah. Dang, I forgot about that. Keith had a lick that went from the 10th fret g string, then bent the 11th fret b string up a step, then played that note unbent, then 9th fret b string, back to 10th fret g string. The notes are F Bb-C Bb Ab F. Then I had a riff over the G9 to C13 chords. It was like D string hammer on 10 to 12, G string 10, then G string 12 to 10 pulloff, bend then g string 12, to B string 11 and 13, g string bend 12 up n down, pull off to 10, 12 on G to 12 on D, to G 10. C-D F G-F, G-A , Bb C G-A-G F G D F. I'll show that in the next one. Thanks for the heads up!
