@MrWatskebizzy I use always Elixir bass strings gauges: 45-65-85-105. My thumb is resting on the E string or on the pick-up.

@hendybadoet Thanks !! Actually no. I just run my bass signal with the song track and shoot it straight out of my mixer into my camera.

I have been replaying tis video OVER and OVER (I think this is my 10th time) trying to learn it by ear. This is the first song I am attempting to learn by ear. My uncle plays bass professionally and he can learn a song by ear super fast, I need this skill as I cannot read the music that well.

Getting an equal sound using two fingers is so brutal. You play well technically. It puts me at ease that I'm not the only one that has problems mastering the plucking thing though...

The riff is major not minor. Fact. So it would be D, Db (not C) etc... From the angle hard to see if you are hitting the C or the Db (same in G position) or hear over the recording. If not, this may be of interest. I have original band notes and study...they would always emphasize it wasn't D- D~C etc.

I agree, only a half step difference, then, in the second hald of the riff, go to the whole step down.
@michaelfuria42572 жыл бұрын
No! Whole steps on both-the horns are playing half steps but are overshadowed by the up-front mixing of the bass....

It's D and C natural. What you write is actually a very common error of pointing out to someone that it's an error. This bassline doesn't follow the horns all the time. Use Moises app to isolate the bass from the recording and you'll be surprised

@@K0thill It's a C natural, really. I've just checked it with Moises app which isolated bass from a track. I was blown away by the truth. Seems like everyone wants to correct that it's a half-step. No, it's not. Take care!

A very good bass cover of this great song by James Brown. Just one thing, in the saxophone section there's no bass line, and you're playing it in that part, and...you have to tune a little bit those strings, they're out of tune
