I saw them on tour and this was the concert. I was just a kid. I had never seen or heard anything like The James Brown Show. That first sax solo was by St.Clair Pickney. That is the sax player standing beside the trumpet in the first picture of the horn section. He had a white streak in the front of his hair. I thought that was soooo cool. They all looked super cool to me. As a kid I was in awe. My parents were police officers so they walked me all the way to the front of the crowd to the stage. There were 3 violinist, 3 tenor saxes, 1 sax player switched off and on from tenor to baritone sax. I counted 2 trumpet players and two trombone players, 3 drummers, 2 guitar players, two bass players, a hammond B3 organ, 3 dancers and there were other musicians standing at the back of the stage waiting for a chance to get on stage if James chose to do so. When the band took a break, one of the drummers started soloing as hard as he could. James stood there with his arm on his hip and when the drummer finished, James walked up to him and fired him right there on stage. I couldn't believe it. The stage was raised off of the floor about 4 feet so from where I was I could see everything. It changed my life to be honest. Ladies and Gentlemen !!!!!!!! It was SHOWTIME !!!!!!

Excitement on every level, a kaleidoscope of images and personality in one man, one show. Some of the costumery was at once surprising, and even shocking in a good way. Lightning fast. costume changes too! That costumery and makeup even led the way for the ❤ Frankenstein -ish Herman Munster esque😮 GOTH look, so popularized much later on, even into the Punk Rock Era. Only JB could wear them Knife Blade straight legged pants and boots on top of that Goth look, eye shade to boot. It seems on some photos. What a true true legend the man was, and IS!

HAD to be one of the most exciting times in JB's career. That interim period of development, with some under documented material. Takes me baxk to them just before puberty days, when dogone near everything was smelling and looking good with a skirt on, but the innocence was still there. Also, it was a safe and sure bet that this was just far enough back to be an indispensible link to early soul, and the later stuff that JB had his finger on the pulse of. The California West Coast scene was SLAMMIN, and space/jet age James Brown was even getting his props on the silver screen. Those off the beaten path in between days are PRICELESS! A James Brown just young enough to be his rare, early self, about to hit the next phase. One last thing: 😁 that hard road 300 one-nighters a year fast lane lifestyle that he rap-talked about on decades later ' Livin' in America' had already been lived, and to its toll to some extent. He never let it show. It must have been s SUPER, up off the ground experience to have traveled and toured with his Troup during those days. Prince, Michael Jackson move on over one more time!😮

The Godfather lost a fortune by not getting the rights to his shows for video recording. Some of these shows they are showing now are really hard to believe a group, I said a group, because James Brown was a Famous Fame before he became the leader. All of those cats had dance moves that were unmatched. To me the Temptations are the closest thing to them. And don't mention the band, the Godfather had not some of the best but the best musicians at that time. If you never got to see them perform live, well all I can say is that. You missed out on seeing not one of but the greatest entertainers that walked out on a stage. The GOATS.
@SoulOnTopJB

You could add 'imaging rights' to that, if Sports Stars can do it, then why not musicians, it's so hard to find images of certain band members, Hearlon Cheese, Nat Jones, Filyau, Herbert Perry, even Bea Ford.
