James Cameron - Avatar The Way of Water World Premiere on immersion in the film & True Lies Blu-ray!

James Cameron is interviewed at the Premiere of Avatar 2, Avatar: The Way of Water. Directed by James Cameron, the film stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement, and Kate Winslet. Colin Hart, Ethan Hart and Scott Davis were on the red carpet, asking questions, seeking answers.
Plot: Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, “Avatar: The Way of Water” begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.
The film opens in cinemas on December 16.

@@kentslocumbut you know what I find so interesting about myself, even though I completely and entirely love immersing myself in a movie with no interruptions. When I get a theatre to myself I am more prone to checking my phone for the time or something like that. There really is (as James cameron was saying) something about the pressure in a room with lots of people to remain quiet and watch the movie. A good quiet audience that’s dedicated to watching the film is what I find to be my ideal time in a cinema

@@ben-9503 Good point. Point token. And it's fun to all laugh together when something funny happens onscreen. But I turn off my phone before the movie starts, and it takes several minutes to turn back on again, so no chance of being distracted by my phone!

@@jameswilliams-zr8co Bearly anyone texts during a movie, I haven't seen someone text during a movie in a while. Only after at the end credits. Talking and laughing is a given. Most people tend to speak softly and in another persons ear to quiet themselves. A shared experience is great. Again not every experience is amazing, yet most of the times I have been it's been great.

I think I agree with him about the communal experience. I enjoy watching movies in an empty theater too. Getting up out of the house and paying money to watch it is important. You want to get the most out of the experience when you pay for it, so you pay attention. Hmm, why not a dual question about The Abyss and True Lies? Not too happy with his answer on that. Sounded like a brush off.

he's half right. one part of the movie experience is get out of the house, Do something. but the communal dimension is when the audience reacts. like something cool happens and then someone says Yes! or something like that it makes the film more living. or if you're the person reacting then it shows how you're all into it zoning. it's subtle and too much can ruin it. but the little things are what you can't get at home.

I live in the UK where you won't find that kind of communal reactions when watching a movie. And I'm glad of that tbh. I see it in American cinemas with the whole whooping and cheering and for the life of me I can't understand why it doesn't annoy more people. Its often not subtle though, at least from the many reactions I've seen online from popular blockbusters such as the Marvel films.

The communal experience of watching a movie is a factor for me but he's right that the choice to focus on a film is important too. I haven't watched a movie at home without looking at my phone since probably when I got a smart phone. I can't get anyone else I watch a movie with to ignore phones at home either. Can only do that at the cinema.

I've got a 200 inch TV and 2500 watt stereo at home. back in the day the cinema had things like that you just couldn't have at home. but these days the only thing the cinema has that I don't at home is the audience. why would I want to watch from off to the side or too far forward or back? oh that's right to get out of the house and be around other people. I don't mind if they react to the movie a little. it's only distracting if they go too far or the movie isn't very good.

Yep he's right about the communal experience stuff. I watched The Texas Chainsaw Massacre by myself in the theatre, was not the greatest movie ever. but was nearly the best experience i've had in the theatre.

I agree with him about the whole communal aspect and how overrated it is. I go to the movies to watch a story or to experience an audio visual ride, not to be part of some whooping and cheering crowd. It seems to be a problem particularly in America where it's seen as socially acceptable to cheer and scream like a twat as if you're watching a game of football. Anyway can't wait to see Avatar 2!
