Companies love to charge for inconveniences to their employees yet don’t pass that extra earnings to their employees.. Uber is a great example of customers being charged an extra $30 for surge pricing but the driver only sees about $5 of that

Because it's okay if a FEW people go over by a small amount and pay the extra money, but not everyone will. Most people won't. There's a bit of wiggle room, and if people want to pay a high fee to take advantage of that, they can. It's about moderation. Could you imagine if they just said they wouldn't carry any bags over 50lbs at all? People would freak out if they had to buy a second bag for 5 lbs of stuff. So there's a middle ground with a high fee. Allows wiggle room but severely limits that wiggle room.

imagine a plane can only carry 100lb. only 5 ppl can fly on this plane meaning their bags can only be 25lbs.. Not everyone is going to adhere to that rule and they can't just kick you off a flight for your baggage...so instead they LOWER the amount you can bring, just in case their are people with heavier luggage. By adding a fee it makes it so less people are likely to go over that 100lbs. so if we have a plane that can only carry 100lbs...we are going to tell the 5 people, you can bring 10lbs free, then anything 11lbs-20lbs you must pay for. That way the plane is not overweight. I had a flight once where we had to circle the airport because we had too much gasoline even though we already took off..im pretty sure they also said aliyahs plane crashed during takeoff because the plane was too heave

If airlines made good money, they wouldn’t constantly need bailed out. Charging high prices for flights does not equal large profits.
