As a child, I watched The Virginian. It was a must-watch in our family. Drury's straight, honest and considerate character had a significant effect on me - and I remain thankful to him for that. Also, thanks to you too, Age of Vintage - great progs .

In the 60’s and 70’s James was a legend and lived just one town north of me and he is what all cowboys wanted to be! My father and he were about the age and both were about as handsome as a man could be and loved help others and working hard and doing what a man was supposed to do by putting things right that were wrong when they saw injustice🙌

Thanks for a very good biography of an actor whom i admired. I used to watch THE VIRGINIAN every week, and I read Owen Wister's novel in High School as a result. As someone who grew up with horses and ranch work, it's good to know that someone followed the "cowboy way" successfully.

Wow! He was gorgeous! I was so young back then, that didn't occur to me. If I had been older he would have been perfect, with his dark handsome looks, yet just rugged enough to be manly!

You are driving me nuts when you keep saying pony. He never rode a pony he wrote an Appaloosa which is a horse. He always rode a HORSE!

"riding ponies in diapers"!! That sure sounded a lot worse than it actually turned out to be. Interesting story, thanks for posting.

To give his rear a little more padding (cushing)?!

it indicated how young he was when he first rode a horse, NOT when he was older.

Maybe the rear was a little sore and tender for some reason from time to time

Why, when you talk about his close friendship with Doug McClure, do you not show a photo of him with Doug?

We were OK with the 90 minute length because in the beginning it was the only color TV show for that time slot.

Drury was a very good actor who looked the part. Did Drury wear the diapers? Or was it the horse? Watching to find out. 😊

His grandfather was alive in the 18th century? Before or after the Revolutionary War? That's the1700s. You need to get over archly using "pony" instead of "horse."
