Funny thing is GotG 1 was so influential for Marvel they reworked a lot of their films to fit its mold. Pretty much any character they didnt know what to do with went into the Guardians mold. Take Ragnarok for example. After the Dark World the future of Thors films became questionable. People criticized it being too dark and dreary, then came Ragnarok which took a lot of story beats and comedic effects from Guardians. The 80s theme, the zany off the wall characters like Korg, the music, the colors and practical effects felt very reminiscent of Guardians to me. And whether or not you liked the film, it did bring a new spin on the character and people seemed to like it at the time. Same thing with Antman, they interjected a lot of Guardians style chaotic humour into it as well. However you can see since Gunns departure they've still been trying to capitalize on Guardians humor, putting a typical 80s remixed song into every trailer, making every character Goofy and wacky even ones that really shouldn't be like Zeus. And a lot of what they do feels more like a parody or cheap undeserved knock offs that feel forced. It's plain to see how influential Gunn was to Marvel, and how him leaving really put a dent in their plans post endgame.

Groups of chummy misfits overcoming their differences to beat a Kaiju-class monster set to a brilliant soundtrack and bullet-time set pieces. After watching Peacekeeper hit critical mass with its reliance on “character A says something that characters B and C can’t believe, leading to a six-minute scene of Walmart-brand Tarantino discussion about that thing,” I genuinely don’t know if the guy can create a compelling mythos around ONE superhero going through their journey. Last time Chris had to audition was 10 years ago.. so is that proof Hollywood doesn't search for the right talent for films and just choose names that will sell? I know we know this already but come on just being handed multimillion dollar roles for 10 years without a single audition. If only it were like that for all of us.

Hopefully Marvel and Disney realize that sifting through someone's online history from years ago, or targeting them for simply having an opinion, lead you in situations like this. They were so concerned about being woke they lost their most passionate and talented director. This may very well be the last nail in the coffin
@Justusson
@Justusson Жыл бұрын
That was not a “woke” thing, not in any actual definition of what woke means. What Disney did was to be hypersensitive and political correct, as to not allowing anyone (publicly) to have made any faux pas. This was reactivity, when people became aware of crap people had posted years before and didn’t know how to relate to that. Woke on the other hand is about becoming aware of actual injustice, as in the comparison to being asleep - which they were, because they didn’t know how to handle it. It really set back the trilogy a long time, which perhaps could have been longer even(?), and created some big humps on the way to overcome. Guardians was one of my favourites. I’m not so sure how well Gunn will do with the DCU materials,..

As much as i hate that Henry is gone now and we wont get to see how the JL defeats darkseid. I also believe that its not James Gunn's fault that the old universe is dead. The real culprit is that fckng Walter Hamada and his troops.. Wasted henry for all these years. Henry is in his 40's now and he wont be able to play supes for long. And if James has a great plan for DC universe with loads of movies for the next 10 years, i dont see henry fitting there.. they obviously need a younger clark who can play for the next 10-15 years tops.. Henry was a great Superman detroyed by previous WB regime..

James gunn is a very good writer, and has great understanding of people and the characters he writes. I read somewhere that James was going to pen down the entire cosmic part of MCU, before he was fired by Disney in all its wokeness. And that is a huge, huge price that Marvel has paid. Vol 3 is a good movie, as good as the first but the first felt very comercial and theatrical whereas this is very thick with character arcs. As a last movie in Marvel, he put a lot of things in this. Other than that, DC I think is in good hands, and I know it has an exciting future. Despite all this, I don't think Gunn has any huge part in overall what marvel has done till endgame, because Thanos and Infinity stones were present even before he was hired. All in all consulting is done in whole of marvel.

Wonder how much input Gunn put into Eternals, I just finished watching it again on stream and damn I really really like it. It's a more matured story of realistic human relationships and dilemmas and call me crazy but I feel more engaged in its story than I felt at the end of watching GotG 1 again a couple days ago, but then again maybe I've watched GotG 1 way too many times already by now. I really hope Marvel brushes aside all the hate Eternals is getting and recognise they actually have a gem and not 'mould-ify' the sequel spoiling it with the crappy formulas they've used in the recent MCU films, minus GotG 3.

Disney/Marvel firing James Gunn was not stupidity, but helplessness. After the tweets fiasco, Disney found themselves in a fix and they didn't know how to handle the situation that could threaten their kid-friendly status. Of course, this could be DC's win. Even Disney is allowing a bit of R-rated content with MCU's first ever F-bomb again thanks to Gunn.

I’m starting to see, not just in my own social groups but on the internet, the growing sentiment of people giving up on Marvel. The quality is declining, and superhero fatigue is graduating to apathy. Gunn gets to abandon ship on a positive note and move to a studio that’s giving him a blank slate. He gets to build something rather than work within Marvel’s frustrating, flattening confines. Can’t believe I’m saying this after DC’s live action has sucked for so long, but I think DC is gonna freshen up the superhero genre at least for awhile longer.

So Disney rehired him for GOTG3. Even though they were the ones who fired him in the first place trying to set the record straight that they do not tolerate comments making light of pedophilia and rape. And yet , Disney, the beacon of hope for all sorts of woke agendas, and provider of so many jobs in Florida, valued money over values, and thought that the public would've forgotten about all that happened before, given just how short attention span and short term memory people have these days. Money makes the world go around, and it sure spins Disney quite a lots.

You claim we should take rape seriously and have respect and sympathy for rape victims, but then say wokeness is bad.
