I think Gunn's being honest here. He really hasn't taken a final call on the future of Ezra as The Flash. He will take a call based on the film's performance and Ezra's behaviour.

I think there's a lot around the whole Ezra Miller situation that isn't known in its full context (for better or worse; it's unclear what has been blown out of proportion and what's been minimized, and whether the missing context makes the situation better or worse for Ezra), but if any kind of unofficial decision has been made, DC/Discovery/Gunn definitely can't talk about it openly at this stage without inviting legal problems or upsetting the investors. The one thing that's clear is that Miller has shown signs of some kind of instability and paranoia, which at least in one situation has led to violence (in response to somebody jokingly challenging them to a fight, which somewhat complicates that particular situation). Whether that's due to substance use or underlying psychological issues, it's clear that Miller needs help, and as long as Miller is in the process of *getting* that help, my understanding is that it would be a violation of union rules to fire them, but the job is abstract at this point, since the movie finished shooting a long time ago and Miller will probably be largely excused from the press tour for obvious reasons, so it's pretty much just a waiting game at this point. The movie will have a weird press tour, with a lot of statements of "we wish Ezra well in their recovery", because that's all they can say, and it will come out, and then we might not hear anything about Ezra Miller for a while, until some new information surfaces about recovery, past incidents, legal cases associated with said incidents, or...a new incident. Or another project involving the character of Barry Allen, in which case we might hear about casting (although I wouldn't be surprised if the DCU simply introduces Wally West or one of the other speedster characters instead, but it would look bad to the investors if they announced that before the Barry Allen movie is even out, so that will probably only get announced when there's an actual project in development). I think it's very tempting to jump to conclusions, and people seem to be very uncomfortable with uncertainty to the point of jumping to either believing every single rumor or dismissing it as a witch hunt, or assuming that the current state of the situation is final, but the situation is complicated and ongoing, and there are conflicting narratives with gaps and biases on both sides, and the honest thing to do is just wait and see what happens, and hope that both Ezra Miller's issues get resolved and that they're held accountable for that of which they are guilty, to whatever extent that may apply.

There is absolutely no outcome where ezra should be kept as flash. He needs to be recast. If they keep him around, I will have lost a ton of respect for wb

@@metallicnole4514 If exec decisions were to be made based on online fandom's views, Henry Cavill would still be Superman, and ZSJL 2 in production. The business and creative sense would ultimately prevail over any minority fan outrage. If The Flash is a runaway critical and commercial hit ($1 bn+) and Ezra's performance is praised, then there is no business logic in not continuing with Ezra.

@@shubhangbahadur7112 Outside of the hardcore online fan community, how much of the general audience really cares about the snyderverse? Also, even if the flash makes a billion, it's still not a good decision to keep ezra. He's way too much of a liability and can never promote a movie. The new execs were placed in an impossible situation with the flash since it was already shot. Why go through all this again? It would be unwise to go through this again when they can just as easily recast the role. I for one will not support any flash movie with ezra in it going forward. All I'll see is a criminal masquerading as a superhero.

@@shubhangbahadur7112 ezra has been shown to be a terrible person over and over again, people are giving this movie a shot because it was already made, but any time ezra plays flash after this the only thing any news outlet will be talking about is his past. and the things theyve done cant just be ignored. there's no way they'll ever be flash again.

Love James Gunn's passion! But can I give some feedback here. The best interviewers are people who aren't just moving from question to question on a script but actually genuinely having a conversation with the person they're interviewing. This felt like he'd answer with so much passion and you wouldn't acknowledge anything he just said before jumping right into the next one. I can imagine this style of interview is hard for creative people because they can get the sense that you don't actually care, you're just there to do your job and get through your list. Hope that feedback is helpful, not intended to bash anyone, but help make interviews even better in the future 😊

I absolutely love the parallel of rocket raccoon and star-lord they both had evolution thrust upon them and they keep with the spidey theme of great power and great responsibility. This de-evolution of star-lord not being as infused with his father's DNA and then taking a step back to hang out with Grandpa is an interesting choice feels kinda wizard of oz , but if Marvel movies stoped keeping us in the dark that would feel weird too.

I think Quill's rejection of his Celestial DNA and his return to his grandfather is yet another parallel between himself and Rocket. Both of them are running away from their pasts, and that in part means running away from (as it turns out) their shared home planet. Confronting Ego and the High Evolutionary allows them to reject the perfection envisioned by their "creators" and embrace their messier ties to Earth, and the beauty of their imperfections (hence Rocket not only accepting that he is a racoon but turning it into his surname like a badge of honour). Even after confronting Ego though, Quill is still running away because, even though he accepted his mother's death at the end of Vol.1, he can only see Earth as symbolising the moment of his mother's death and his grandfather's anger. He's still trying to shield himself from his losses, hence his desperation to recapture his relationship with Gamora via her variant. It is only by saving Rocket, being gifted more time with his best friend, that he's compelled to make the most of what little he has with those who are still alive. Him eventually earning the respect of Gamora's variant, instead of her love, compounds this; his Gamora is dead, but there are other members of his family that he should invest in before they're gone. So even though it means leaving Rocket and the Guardians, he returns to his now very elderly grandfather, and makes the most of the few years they have left together. Rocket doesn't have the same luxury; both his biological family and his found family of fellow experiments are long dead. Instead, Rocket invests in his new found family and his new leadership of the team, even if that means letting certain members go off on their own paths. But what that boils down to is the core story of the Guardians trilogy and why it ended the way it did. They all started out as outcasts, shields up and resistant to almost any connections with others, but coming together and investing in one another turned them into better people. They all taught and learned from each other, and now that they are all finally healed from their pain, they're free to forge their own paths while keeping the Guardians and their love in their hearts. In short, they became a real family; a group who form to grow and mature together, giving each other the strength to eventually make their own individual journeys as they surely must.

@@DomoftheDoctor I don't understand what you are saying by rejection of his DNA like rockets, like an auto-immune disease and what is that a parallel to in rocket? DO you think being a Dom of a doctor is just quacking loudly on the same lake as him so he flies off?
@DomoftheDoctor
@DomoftheDoctor Жыл бұрын
@@christopheroneill77 Here's what I mean. Ego desires to rewrite the cosmos according to his view of how it should be, and fathers Quill to facilitate that end. Quill not only rejects that idea, but in killing Ego, he removes the Celestial part of his DNA and turns himself into a regular, mortal human being. Ego warns him that this will happen, resulting in this exchange: Ego: If you kill me, you'll become just like everybody else! Quill: What's so wrong with that? In short, Quill rejects the perfectionism offered by Ego and embraces the beautiful imperfection of his Earthly origins and being a member of the Guardians. The High Evolutionary also desires to rewrite the cosmos according to HIS view of how it should be, and creates Rocket to facilitate that end. Rocket also rejects that idea, and compounds this rejection by his adoption of "Raccoon" as his surname. For the whole trilogy, Rocket has hated the word, because he perceives it as an insult designed to make him comparable to vermin, just as the High Evolutionary deemed him too flawed to become part of his perfect world. However, the discovery that he is from Earth - that he IS a raccoon - gives him an identity beyond what the High Evolutionary turned him into, and one that he can rub in his creator's face at the first opportunity. In short, Rocket mocks the perfectionism sought by the High Evolutionary and embraces the beautiful imperfection of his Earthly origins and being a member of the Guardians. There are differences of course, the big one being that Ego intended to have Quill at his side as his equal, while the High Evolutionary always saw Rocket as beneath him. But the point stands that Quill and Rocket parallel each other in choosing to accept the part of themselves that are from Earth, and deciding that they are not just who their "fathers" intended them to be. As for my KZfaq handle… it's a silly Doctor Who pun, what can I say?

It doesn't help that when they shot quantumania post credit scene, they made every Kang across all the multiverse majors smh. They can't come in now and recast him. Then again, Disney is basically killing the marvel and star wars IPs to the ground trying to force them to be woke trash. It was so refreshing to watch a marvel movie be simply a movie. No agenda messages, none of that. After they fired him and had to hire him back he told them not to step or get in his creative way. It's why his films feel so very self contained to their own stories. He has now exitedarvel with grace. This one, easily the best of the series.

Yes he was originally called rocky raccoon named after the beatles song who first showed up in hulk comics and got his own 4 issue series in the 80s that explains his origins but was not around much in the comics till the event Annihilation in 2006 and the rebranded guardians of the galaxy series in 2008 by Dan Abnett and Andy lanning that was the main inspiration for the team in the movies and the tone that james gunn ran with and made them such a huge pop culture phenomenon we love today

Yeah, It's weirder than you think. Comics, man. "Centuries ago, a group of alien humanoids settled the largest planet in the Keystone Quadrant star system. They built a complex to house and treat the insane, recording their medical observations in a psychiatric diary. When the "Shrinks" funding was cut, they abandoned the project, but not before they created a staff of robot stewards to provide for the humanoids. They then separated the quadrant from the rest of the galaxy with an impenetrable force field. When a nearby star went nova, ensuing radiation gave sentience to the robots, who quickly chafed at the illogical directives of the humanoids, or "Loonies." Seeking to end their servitude, the robots used genetic engineering to give intelligence and awareness to the animals that had been left as companions for the patients. They charged the animals with the patients' care and protection, then relocated to the far side of the planet, which they proceeded to strip bare through industrial endeavors, one of which was construction of a vast, humanoid spacecraft called Ship. The half-industrial, half-verdant planet became known as "Halfworld." The animals continued to care for the humans, and the robots provided a lot of equipment, weapons, and parts for toys. The psychiatric diary left by the physicians (now known in legend as the "Shrinks") became an indecipherable icon called Gideon's Bible. Toys played an important part in Halfworld society as entertainment for the Loonies. Without toys, the Loonies lapsed into a deep melancholy, so the animals made certain nothing interrupted production. Two otters formed the first toy factory, and upon their death it was taken over by the mole Judson Jakes, who established his headquarters in the Spacewheel space station built by the tortoise Uncle Pyko. Pyko designed toys, weapons, an army of robots clowns, and the bat-like Drakillers." The original Rocket Raccoon was basically the police officer of this crazy world. He flew on rocket skates, used a pistol blaster, and was a clever, tough cop, but not an angry genius like his movie counterpart. He was devoted to caring for the humans like all his modified animal brethren.
